Two weeks after announcing his late decision to enter the 2020 presidential race, rap mogul Kanye West held his first campaign event in Charleston, South Carolina on Sunday, July 19th. No stranger to controversy and not shying away from speaking his mind, West delved<\/a> into the topic of abortion, which turned unexpectedly personal.<\/p>\n

West told the crowd<\/a>, \u201cWhen the baby\u2019s conceived, at that point it is a soul, it is a real living thing\u2026 That six month old baby<\/a>\u2026 that is a real, living thing\u2026. it is real at that point, says God.\u201d\u00a0He also likened separating a baby from his or her mother in abortion under the \u201cmy body my choice\u201d mantra to killing a born child because a woman decides she no longer wants her husband or child under her roof \u2014 \u201cmy house, my choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

But most strikingly, West relayed his personal experiences with abortion. He said that when his wife became pregnant with their daughter, North, \u201cI was living the rapper\u2019s lifestyle\u2026 She said she was pregnant, and for one month and two months and three months, we talked about her not having this child. She had the pills in her hand\u2026. these pills, if you take the pills, that\u2019s a wrap. The baby\u2019s gone\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

West said he believed God spoke to him during that time while he was in Paris, and that\u2019s why he decided abortion was not<\/em> the right plan.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m in the apartment in Paris,\u201d West said, \u201cand I have my laptop up\u2026 and the screen went black and white. And God said, if you f*** with my vision, I\u2019m gonna f*** with yours.\u201d He said he spoke to his wife, Kim Kardashian, on the phone, \u201cand she said ‘we\u2019re gonna have this baby’. I said, ‘we\u2019re gonna have this child’.\u201d He went on to say that his wife \u201cbrought North into the world even when I didn\u2019t want to. She stood up and she protected that child.\u201d<\/p>\n

At his first campaign event, @kanyewest<\/a> shares that when @KimKardashian<\/a> got pregnant with their first child, North, he wanted an abortion at first. <\/p>\n
