syndrome and is challenging the UK\u2019s discriminatory abortion law, got married last weekend in one of the first post-lockdown weddings to take place since Government restrictions were lifted.<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old was able to marry her partner James Carter, 26, at Hillfields Church, Coventry on Saturday 4 July \u2013 their original planned date.\u00a0However, due to the current guidelines, they had to cut their guest list down from over 220 people to just 30.\u00a0As a result, the ceremony was live streamed online, allowing the other 190 guests to watch the couple tie the knot.<\/p>\n<p>The livestream was so popular over 1,000 people were watching at one point, while a recording of the ceremony has been watched by over 35,000 people.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/news\/central\/2020-07-07\/downs-syndrome-campaigner-ties-the-knot-in-a-socially-distanced-wedding\">Speaking to ITV News<\/a>, Heidi proclaimed: <em>\u201cIt was the best day of my life.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And, yesterday morning, James told BBC 5 Live: <em>\u201cI married my best friend.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fdontscreenusout%2Fvideos%2F197266035024611%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=476\" width=\"476\" height=\"476\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/center>Before the wedding on Saturday, Heidi and James had not seen each other in over three months, due to COVID-19 restrictions.\u00a0<em>\u201cIt was really upsetting that we hadn\u2019t seen each other,\u201d<\/em> Heidi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-53310630\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told the BBC<\/a>. <em>\u201cIt was like being in prison.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fdontscreenusout%2Fvideos%2F704494143718365%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"420\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/center>James has now relocated to Coventry, <em>\u201cto spend my life with Heidi\u201d<\/em>, and the newlyweds are enjoying a \u201cstaycation honeymoon\u201d, with their plans to visit Italy on hold.\u00a0The couple are planning a \u201cbig celebration\u201d next year after having to swap their reception for a meal at the pub.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Heidi\u2019s landmark case<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Heidi Crowter <a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/woman-with-downs-syndrome-takes-uk-govt-to-court-over-allowing-abortion-up-to-birth-for-disabilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launched<\/a> a landmark case against the UK Government over current abortion legislation that singles out babies with disabilities, allowing abortion right through to birth for conditions including Down syndrome, cleft lip and club foot.<\/p>\n<p>Heidi\u2019s legal challenge has generated widespread support from those with first-hand experience of Down syndrome, pro-life campaigners, disability advocates and more.<\/p>\n<p>Over 5,000,000 people have watched Heidi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=1689617214513977\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tell Channel 5<\/a> the current law is \u201cdeeply offensive\u201d and many more have seen her tell the BBC\u2019s Victoria Derbyshire programme that the current law makes her feel <em>\u201cunloved and unwanted\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FC5News%2Fvideos%2F1689617214513977%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=476\" width=\"476\" height=\"476\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/center>Heidi\u2019s campaign has been shared tens of thousands of times on social media, with people adding #ImWithHeidi to their posts.\u00a0She has now been <a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/mother-of-baby-with-downs-syndrome-joins-landmark-case-against-discriminatory-abortion-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">joined in her legal fight<\/a>\u00a0against discriminatory disability-selective abortion by M\u00e1ire Lea-Wilson, whose one-year-old son, Aidan, has Down syndrome.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e1ire has said she was encouraged in hospital to abort Aidan when a scan at 34 weeks revealed he had the condition.\u00a0Recalling her experience, she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/330920523745212\/videos\/3201534996533091\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told Sky News<\/a>: <em>\u201cI felt like the assumption was that we would abort our baby.\u201d\u00a0<\/em>The mother of two added: <em>\u201cI have two sons and I love and value them equally and I think it seems really wrong that the law doesn\u2019t value them equally.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\"
