Despite these allegations, the corporation&#8217;s media allies continue to portray it as an organization deserving of increased taxpayer dollars. Yet, as Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-employees-leave\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously reported<\/a>, several Planned Parenthood staffers have been jumping ship due to long-held dissatisfaction with the corporation for various reasons. Some staffers who remained have chosen to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/employees-planned-parenthood-mask-crack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unionize<\/a>,\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-dark-pregnancy-discrimination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">some<\/a>\u00a0have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/12\/20\/business\/planned-parenthood-pregnant-employee-discrimination-women.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exposed<\/a>\u00a0the corporation\u2019s abuses,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/employees-planned-parenthood-mask-crack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">low wages,<\/a>\u00a0and the failure of affiliates to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coworker.org\/petitions\/planned-parenthood-employees-need-paid-parental-and-medical-leave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">offer<\/a>\u00a0paid medical leave. Just this month, hundreds of past and present employees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/06\/23\/nyregion\/ny-planned-parenthood-laura-mcquade.html?smid=tw-nytimes&amp;smtyp=cur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed<\/a> an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/saveppgny.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open letter<\/a>\u00a0accusing the CEO of Planned Parenthood Greater New York (PPGNY) of mistreatment, abuse, racism, and mismanagement of funds.\u00a0After Planned Parenthood Federation of America <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/racism-planned-parenthood-fires-ceo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fired<\/a> her, employees claim the corporation did so only because of public pressure.<\/p>\n<p>But these aren&#8217;t the only times that employee whistleblowers have come forward detailing the systemic toxicity of the abortion corporation, which singlehandedly commits <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-almost-40-percent-us-abortions\/\">40% of the nation&#8217;s abortions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abuse<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Staffers at PPGNY, which is the corporation&#8217;s largest affiliate, <a href=\"https:\/\/saveppgny.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0this year that CEO Laura McQuade was known to &#8220;yell, berate, slam her fists, verbally abuse, humiliate, and bully employees.&#8221; Planned Parenthood employees at other facilities across the country have reported similar behavior.<\/p>\n<p>In 2013, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/May-2013-Complaint-Liveright-Timothy.pdf\">complaint<\/a>\u00a0was filed against Planned Parenthood Delaware medical director and abortionist Timothy Liveright for allegedly \u201cyelling, screaming, and cursing\u201d in front of employees and patients, and for \u201csexual[ly] harass[ing]&#8230; female employees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2005, Aymara Castro\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/Users\/carol\/Downloads\/gov.uscourts.txsd.351711.21.0.pdf\">said<\/a>\u00a0Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas subjected her to \u201cunlawful sexual harassment, and to disparate terms, conditions and privileges of employment because of her sex.\u201d She won her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/gov.uscourts.txsd_.351711.21.0-1.pdf\">claim<\/a>,\u00a0filed with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chron.com\/business\/article\/EEOC-sues-Planned-Parenthood-1516563.php\">Equal Employment Opportunity Commission<\/a>,\u00a0which found the corporation had \u201cfailed to take corrective action to stop the harassment and retaliated against her for engaging in protected activity.\u201d\u00a0Planned Parenthood was ordered to pay Castro\u00a0$40,000.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-planned-parenthood-discriminated-pregnant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">December 2018<\/a>, The New York Times exposed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/12\/20\/business\/planned-parenthood-pregnant-employee-discrimination-women.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the abysmal way<\/a>\u00a0Planned Parenthood discriminated against pregnant employees. \u201c[M]anagers in some locations declined to hire pregnant job candidates, refused requests by expecting mothers to take breaks and in some cases pushed them out of their jobs after they gave birth,\u201d the Times reported, &#8220;in clear\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/general\/topic\/benefits-leave\/fmla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">violation<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/whd\/fmla\/\">Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_193035\" style=\"width: 1314px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-193035\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-193035\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/NYTs-article-on-how-Planned-Parenthood-treats-pregnant-employees.jpg\" alt=\"Image: New York Times' article on how Planned Parenthood treats pregnant employees\" width=\"1304\" height=\"466\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-193035\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">New York Times&#8217; article on how Planned Parenthood treats pregnant employees<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Mismanagement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PPGNY staffers\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/saveppgny.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0CEO Laura McQuade mismanaged funds, leading to a deficit of $6.2 million after having inherited an $18 million surplus. But this isn&#8217;t the only the most recent incident of mismanagement reported at Planned Parenthood facilities. In 2005, the Miami Herald reported that Planned Parenthood cut ties with several Florida centers over allegations of \u00a0\u201cterrible mismanagement and possibly fraud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2010, a Texas <a href=\"https:\/\/borderzine.com\/2010\/09\/el-paso%E2%80%99s-planned-parenthoods-shuts-its-doors-after-72-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media outlet<\/a> concluded &#8220;poor management and financial problems were the ultimate reason for El Paso Planned Parenthood\u2019s closure.&#8221;\u00a0In 2011,\u00a0staffers at a California affiliate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastbayexpress.com\/oakland\/ex-planned-parenthood-affiliate-goes-bankrupt\/Content?oid=2630269\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alleged<\/a>\u00a0that Planned Parenthood Golden Gate\u2019s CEO was mishandling finances, leading Planned Parenthood Federation of America to disaffiliate the center.\u00a0In 2018, Planned Parenthood staffers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nashvillescene.com\/news\/features\/article\/21037623\/former-planned-parenthood-employees-allege-mismanagement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spoke<\/a> to the Nashville\u00a0Scene \u201cunder the condition of anonymity due to fear of facing retaliation,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/nashville-planned-parenthood-why-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alleging<\/a> mismanagement and a prioritization of profits over patients at the Nashville facility.<\/p>\n<p>In some instances, the financial mismanagement extended to fraud. In 2010, Planned Parenthood of the Inland Northwest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spokesman.com\/stories\/2010\/oct\/29\/spokanes-planned-parenthood-fined-state\/\">was fined<\/a> after an audit uncovered the facility &#8220;used incorrect codes and provided insufficient documentation for some claims billed to Medicaid.&#8221;\u00a0In 2012, <a href=\"https:\/\/cnsnews.com\/news\/article\/one-five-planned-parenthood-affiliates-face-financial-controversy-report-says\">10 separate audits<\/a> in four states showed $7.8 million in Medicaid overpayments to the corporation. That same year, former staffers <a href=\"http:\/\/lufkindailynews.com\/news\/local\/article_2ca03240-5506-11e1-938b-001871e3ce6c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0Planned Parenthood was committing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/former-planned-parenthood-staffers-explain-medicaid-fraud-committed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Medicaid fraud<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2013, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chron.com\/news\/houston-texas\/houston\/article\/Planned-Parenthood-finalizes-4-3-million-lawsuit-4696121.php?cmpid=htx\">Karen Reynolds<\/a>,\u00a0a former employee of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, accused the corporation of wrongly billing government programs &#8211; and as a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/former-planned-parenthood-staffers-explain-medicaid-fraud-committed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">result<\/a>,\u00a0Planned Parenthood was forced to pay $4.3 million in fines. Just two years later, former Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast Accounts Receivable Manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/USCOURTS-txsd-4_12-cv-03505\/pdf\/USCOURTS-txsd-4_12-cv-03505-0.pdf\">Patricia Carroll<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/USCOURTS-txsd-4_12-cv-03505\/pdf\/USCOURTS-txsd-4_12-cv-03505-0.pdf\">blew the whistle<\/a>\u00a0leading to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2015\/10\/26\/whistleblower-accusations-led-to-planned-parenthood-medicaid-investigations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Medicaid fraud investigation<\/a>.\u00a0That same year, seven former\u00a0employees urged lawmakers to investigate the corporation for a number of potentially criminal and fraudulent acts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zkW3CgHSyj4\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leadership inaction and retaliation\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Staffers at Planned Parenthood of Greater New York\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/saveppgny.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a> their complaints had long been &#8220;met with silence, indifference, and an increasing disregard for staff wellbeing.&#8221; In March 2019, PPGNY employees <a href=\"https:\/\/saveppgny.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/06\/march-2019-staff-to-board.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">outlined<\/a>\u00a0potentially dangerous safety issues at the affiliate, but said they were met with hostility. &#8220;Many in senior leadership&#8230; are now uncharacteristically quiet and standoffish, raising suspicion that they are being subject to threats and intimidation from the highest levels of management,&#8221; they wrote. In May of 2019, a staffer <a href=\"https:\/\/saveppgny.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/06\/may-2019-multiple-to-board.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a>\u00a0PPFA there was a &#8220;culture of intimidation and retaliation&#8221; at PPGNY.<\/p>\n<p>Other staffers across the country have <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/employees-planned-parenthood-mask-crack\/\">suggested<\/a>\u00a0the same &#8212; that speaking up incites retaliation from leadership. This year, Texas Planned Parenthood\u00a0staffers <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-staff-covid-scapegoat-layoffs\/\">claimed they were fired<\/a> out of &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kxan.com\/news\/local\/austin\/planned-parenthood-employees-laid-off-claim-its-retaliation-for-voicing-concerns\/\">direct retaliation<\/a>\u00a0for both voicing complaints to the CEO and their ongoing efforts to unionize within the past year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A 2019 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montereycountyweekly.com\/news\/local_news\/a-former-employee-sues-planned-parenthood-alleging-retaliation-for-speaking-up-about-harassment\/article_62fd13ca-fb76-11e9-a240-13204c5300f7.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>\u00a0alleges former Planned Parenthood Mar Monte employee Elizabeth Winchester was fired &#8220;after she twice complained to her supervisor and CEO&#8230; about how they were handling [a] harassment and assault complaint.&#8221; In 2017, Mayra Rodriguez, a former facility director in Arizona, she was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/court-orders-planned-parenthood-jury-whistleblower-3m\/\">fired<\/a>\u00a0when she <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-whistleblower-returns-former-workplace-time-shes-praying\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">attempted<\/a> to expose cases of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/whistleblower-planned-parenthood-abortionist-injured-women\/\">botched abortions<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-abortionist-threatening\/\">employee abuse<\/a>, and a failure to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/whistleblower-planned-parenthood-arizona-sexual-abuse\/\">report minority abortions and sexual abuse<\/a>. Rodriguez sued and was awarded $3 million.<\/p>\n<p>Former Planned Parenthood Los Angeles staffer Mark Dawson\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mynewsla.com\/business\/2017\/06\/19\/planned-parenthood-la-sued-former-employee-claims-exec-retaliated-over-whistle-blowing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claims<\/a> he was fired after complaining about an executive&#8217;s financially profitable conflict of interest. In 2013, Delaware staffers <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/child-porn-harassment-rape-planned-parenthood-haven-sex-offenders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a> their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/news\/local\/Nurses-Claim-Wilmington-Planned-Parenthood-Never-Notified-Women-of-STDs--217660531.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">facility<\/a> was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthoodexposed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LA_PP_Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">endangering<\/a>\u00a0staffers and patients. The complaints were ignored by leadership.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mzt8u-LC34w\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Additional staffers say they were fired after requesting disability accommodations. In 2012, former Planned Parenthood of Central Washington manager Shannon Sharp won $136,000 in a wrongful termination\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tri-cityherald.com\/news\/local\/article32073198.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0after the corporation fired her rather than provide reasonable disability accommodations for her neck and back injury.<\/p>\n<p>Staffer Angela Brown&#8217;s lawsuit <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/sues-planned-parenthood-discrimination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0Planned Parenthood \u201cintentionally and willfully discriminated\u201d against her\u00a0by making it difficult for her to take medical leave when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Brown\u2019s attorney\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indystar.com\/story\/news\/2017\/11\/29\/planned-parenthood-ex-employee-sues-over-medical-leave\/901632001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the media her termination was \u201cretaliation for an employee who was seeking leave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even former PPFA president Leana Wen was not exempt from the heavy hand of retaliation. After Wen was <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-leana-wen-fighting-abortion-fired\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fired<\/a>, she\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/former-planned-parenthood-president-threatening-silence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a> the corporation threatened her into silence after\u00a0she suggested Planned Parenthood <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/former-planned-parenthood-prez-fired-make-health-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prioritized<\/a> abortion over health care.<\/p>\n<p>These and more instances prove that the problems at Planned Parenthood aren&#8217;t limited to a single affiliate or center.
