Canada’s International Development Minister Karina Gould announced on June 9, 2020, that Canada is dedicating $8.9 million<\/a> for “reproductive health services”\u2014including abortion\u2014in foreign nations. This will include $4.9 million directly given to UK-based abortion giant Marie Stopes International, which was recently shut down<\/a> in Niger for committing illegal abortions.<\/p>\n

“We feel particularly right now that it’s important to make this funding announcement to demonstrate that we are still committed to SRHR (sexual and reproductive health and rights) even in a pandemic and actually highlighting the fact that these needs exist and are, in fact, exacerbated by the current pandemic,” said Gould. “This funding will help ensure those services can be delivered.”<\/p>\n

Marie Stopes has been the subject of scandals<\/a> in recent years. The abortion conglomerate was caught coercing women into abortions and even throwing the bodies of aborted babies into open garbage cans. Additionally, the documentary “Strings Attached<\/a>,” produced by Culture of Life Africa, exposed the pipeline of money funneled from Western countries to African nations for abortion and contraception. The UK’s healthcare regulator Care Quality Commission issued “a damning report of Marie Stopes” in 2016 after 2,634 “serious breaches of practice” occurred between 2015 and 2016, and in 2017 one UK physician reported<\/a> “nearly 400 botched abortions” were committed in just two months at Marie Stopes facilities.<\/p>\n

“What about in developing countries where the health service is not as good, where there’s not a regulator, where people aren’t carrying out inspections?” he asked. “If [Marie Stopes International] is not following instructions here, what are they going to do in an unregulated situation [like in African countries]?”<\/p>\n

Women in Africa have said<\/a> Marie Stopes has “ruined my life” and claimed abortionists did not use anesthesia on them even during second-trimester surgical abortions. Others report receiving no counseling prior to their abortions and, reportedly, a Marie Stopes abortionist showed at least one woman the pieces of her baby after a dismemberment (D&E) abortion.<\/p>\n
