According to local news station <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khou.com\/article\/news\/local\/baby-only-a-few-hours-old-left-at-crosby-fire-station\/285-f770eddd-c9e4-4e2d-b67e-3a254a54b328?fbclid=IwAR0Ow_tnuH1VrppRBcWq5Xy6KiJFLC4o9ZxEChPkECknfOiniVM3_QBNVpQ\">KHOU.com<\/a>, &#8220;The sheriff\u2019s office said deputies received a call about the girl being dropped off at the fire station. Deputies and firefighters found the girl a short time later at the station\u2019s front door,&#8221; which was around 3:30 a.m. on June 1, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The mother of the child will not face charges because she did not abandon her baby, but left her child at the fire station in accordance with the state&#8217;s Baby Safe Haven or Baby Moses law, and notified an employee of her child&#8217;s location.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/young-womans-baby-saved-from-abandonment-through-safe-haven-laws\/\">Baby saved from abandonment after mother surrenders child under Safe Haven law<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each state has its own version of this law, which can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalsafehavenalliance.org\/safe-haven-locations\">here<\/a>. The time frame in which an infant may be left with first responders varies from state to state, ranging from three to 60 days. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dfps.state.tx.us\/Child_Protection\/Child_Safety\/Resources\/baby_moses.asp\">Texas<\/a>, the law states that the baby must be 60 days old or younger and must be left unharmed at a hospital, fire station, or EMS station, with an employee.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">New born baby girl left at this Crosby Fire dept. overnight.<br \/>Tip caller let officials know the little girl was here. Parents there can leave their children with first responders within 30 days of birth. And in October 2019, a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/baby-saved-california-fire-station-safe-haven\/\">mother took her baby<\/a> to a fire station in Los Angeles, California. Some facilities have also installed special <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/safe-haven-baby-girl-saved\/\">baby boxes<\/a> which <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/indiana-chose-life-safe-haven\/\">immediately notify<\/a> authorities when an infant is left inside. Babies are retrieved from the boxes within minutes by first responders.<\/p>\n<p>When parents cannot care for their newborns, those stories don&#8217;t have to end in tragedy. Thanks to Safe Haven laws in every state, no child should be left for dead.
