An Alabama abortion facility said to have committed over 80,000 abortions<\/a> will be keeping its doors open. After the state passed a\u00a0pro-life law<\/a> banning abortions in Alabama\u2014which was later\u00a0blocked<\/a> by the courts\u2014abortion activists with the Yellowhammer Fund launched a crowdfunding campaign to ensure the sale of the\u00a0West Alabama Women’s Center<\/a> would keep the abortion business running, while allowing long-time owner Gloria Gray to retire.<\/p>\n

“Operating a clinic is something we wanted to do as a fund from the time that we started originally,” Amanda Reyes, executive director of the Yellowhammer Fund, told the Tuscaloosa News<\/a>. The announcement of the purchase was strategically timed to correlate with the anniversary of Governor Kay Ivey’s signing of the Alabama Human Life Protection Act. “One of the things that I said really early on was that they unintentionally were probably going to improve abortion access in Alabama by passing the ban. But I could never imagine one of the things that came from that was that we were able to purchase a clinic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reyes said their organization received millions of dollars in donations, and that Gray had contacted them directly about purchasing the facility from her. I\u2019ve been waiting years, holding out until I could sell my interest in the company without affecting the clinic, without preventing women from being able to get abortions in Alabama,\u201d Gray told the Associated Press<\/a>. The facility is in the market for a new abortionist, however, as one of the two abortionists currently committing abortions is also looking to retire. Drs.\u00a0Willie Parker and Louis Payne are the abortionists at the facility, but Parker has either stepped down or been relieved of his various positions within the abortion industry after being accused of rape.<\/a>\u00a0He notoriously compared himself to Jesus<\/a>, as well as to the biblical figure of Job, with regard to his suffering and trials<\/a>.<\/p>\n

West Alabama Women’s Center is one of only three abortion businesses left in Alabama, and it’s by far one of the busiest, likely because it is closest to Mississippi. According to the Alabama Department of Public Health<\/a>, in 2017, the West Alabama Women’s Center facility committed more abortions in the state than the other facilities combined.<\/p>\n
