However, there may be more to the story.<\/p>\n<p>Nationally, Planned Parenthood has been <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-lost-400000-donors-last-year\/\">mired in controversies<\/a> and was already\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-lost-400000-donors-last-year\/\">bleeding donors<\/a> in 2018, losing 400,000 over the course of the year, according to its own reports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Planned Parenthood of Greater New York\u00a0 (PPGNY)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last month, Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-york-planned-parenthood-closes-insiders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> layoffs at a Planned Parenthood affiliate in New York, allegedly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, a PP spokesperson told the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/news\/article\/Planned-Parenthood-of-Greater-New-York-closing-15187277.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Times Union<\/a>\u00a0that 135 staff members were laid off, 111 were furloughed, and 35 received reduced hours. Since then, more recent media reports appear to indicate that the numbers have ticked upwards slightly. According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kxan.com\/news\/local\/austin\/planned-parenthood-employees-laid-off-claim-its-retaliation-for-voicing-concerns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KXAN<\/a>, &#8220;Planned Parenthood management confirmed it made staff cuts, but it says it\u2019s a business decision it had to make because of COVID-19.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0KXAN went on to report how the former staffers claimed &#8220;they believe it\u2019s direct retaliation for both voicing complaints to the CEO and their ongoing efforts to unionize within the past year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our suspicion is that it was motivated by our organizing activity,&#8221; said Ella Nonni, who has worked for Planned Parenthood for two years.<\/p>\n<p>Despite false <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/halting-abortion-covid-19-little-protective-gear\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claims<\/a> that abortion is &#8220;essential&#8221; and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/halting-abortion-covid-19-little-protective-gear\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">uses<\/a> little PPE (claims made after Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-giant-planned-parenthood-ppe-donations-covid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">documented<\/a>\u00a0Planned Parenthood&#8217;s requests for donations of the protective gear, taking valuable resources away from COVID-19 health care workers), abortion staff in Texas claimed they <em>didn&#8217;t have enough<\/em> PPE.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nonni said there is not enough PPE at the clinics, workers are being forced to do non-essential work for patients in-person and they\u2019re not being offered paid sick leave if they come down with COVID-19 symptoms,&#8221; KXAN reported.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AC77OcIhgDs\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Austin,\u00a0\u00a0KXAN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kxan.com\/news\/local\/austin\/planned-parenthood-employees-laid-off-claim-its-retaliation-for-voicing-concerns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0PP staff layoffs around the state, writing that &#8220;Sarah Wheat, a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas&#8230; said other employees were laid off in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano and Denton as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In response, former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AbbyJohnson\/status\/1248997210676658177\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a>, &#8220;<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">To the <\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-vw2c0b r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Planned Parenthood<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\"> workers who were <\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-vw2c0b r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">fired<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\"> because they dared to question the dangerous protocols of the abortion giant&#8230; we\u2019ve got your back at\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\"><a class=\"css-4rbku5 css-18t94o4 css-901oao css-16my406 r-1n1174f r-1loqt21 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\" role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ATTWNministry\">@ATTWNministry<\/a><\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">. In 2019, Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/employees-planned-parenthood-mask-crack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> several instances of this, including one in which an alleged staffer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BkBPrspniJf2_-hsvv6CALPc42-7ZSqveNevXs0\/?igshid=sif5ujh4433m&amp;utm_source=fb_www_attr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0about Planned Parenthood\u2019s fight against unionizing on Instagram: \u201cFriends \u2013 today is my last day working for Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains\u2026. PPRM\u2019s management have only pushed back in order to keep us from accessing our basic employee rights\u2026. I\u2019ve given the last two years of my life to this cause that I love so much and to see my colleagues bullied like this by the agency they have worked so hard for breaks my f**king heart\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also in 2019, Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-employees-leave\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">documented<\/a>\u00a0additional PP staffers jumping ship. Statements by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-planned-parenthood-discriminated-pregnant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whistleblowers<\/a>\u00a0indicate that employees have been dissatisfied for a long time. This has caused some to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/employees-planned-parenthood-mask-crack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unionize<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-dark-pregnancy-discrimination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">others<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/12\/20\/business\/planned-parenthood-pregnant-employee-discrimination-women.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expose<\/a>\u00a0the corporation\u2019s abuses and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/employees-planned-parenthood-mask-crack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">low wages,<\/a>\u00a0others to detail the failure of affiliates to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coworker.org\/petitions\/planned-parenthood-employees-need-paid-parental-and-medical-leave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">offer<\/a>\u00a0paid medial leave, and others to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/nashville-planned-parenthood-why-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reveal<\/a>\u00a0how the corporation\u2019s leaders prioritize profits over care.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An organization that&#8217;s motto is &#8216;Care No Matter what&#8217; and has a progressive image really wasn&#8217;t taking care of its workers,&#8221;\u00a0Nonni\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AC77OcIhgDs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The layoffs follow years of controversies, bad PR, and a serious\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-struggling-identity-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">image problem<\/a>\u00a0for the abortion business &#8212; ranging from the exposure of Planned Parenthood\u2019s role in the trafficking of aborted baby body parts, to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/court-orders-planned-parenthood-jury-whistleblower-3m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whistleblower lawsuits<\/a>, to staffers\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/employees-planned-parenthood-mask-crack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exposing<\/a>\u00a0how the corporation\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-planned-parenthood-discriminated-pregnant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">discriminates<\/a>\u00a0against pregnant employees, and numerous\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-many-abuses-reasons-defund-abortion-corporation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scandals, abuses, and fraud<\/a>, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/what-we-do\/investigations\/aidingabusers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">covering<\/a>\u00a0up for child sexual predators.<\/p>\n<p>Since\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/2000-20-million-abortions-declining\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2000<\/a>, Planned Parenthood has committed over 5.6 million abortions. An\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/over-half-planned-parenthood-revenue-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">analysis<\/a>\u00a0by Live Action News\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/over-half-planned-parenthood-revenue-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found<\/a>\u00a0that in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/uploads\/filer_public\/80\/d7\/80d7d7c7-977c-4036-9c61-b3801741b441\/190118-annualreport18-p01.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>, the corporation\u2019s estimated abortion revenue reached nearly $200 million ($190.3), totaling 52% of its non-government health services revenue.
