During David Axelrod’s Axe Files podcast on Thursday, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer called abortion “life-sustaining” — as residents drive from across the state to protest what CNN<\/a> calls Whitmer’s “strict stay-at-home orders” amid the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

On the podcast, Whitmer said it was “ridiculous” to consider abortion elective. “A woman’s healthcare, her whole future, her ability to decide if and when she starts a family is not an election, it is fundamental to her life,” she said. “It is life-sustaining and it’s something that government should not be getting in the middle of.”<\/p>\n

Under Whitmer’s stay-at-home order, all Michigan businesses must close for at least three weeks along with all in-person operations that are deemed not necessary in order to “sustain or protect life,” according to the state’s official coronavirus website<\/a>. All Michigan residents “must stay in their homes unless they’re a part of that critical infrastructure workforce, engaged in an outdoor activity, or performing tasks necessary to the health and safety of themselves or their family, like going to the hospital or grocery store.”<\/p>\n

Abortion businesses, however, are allowed to remain open despite the ongoing crisis because Whitmer believes abortion is “life-sustaining.” Abortion, by design, takes the lives of human beings. It is not\u00a0“life-sustaining” or necessary for women to live their lives freely.<\/p>\n

Any act that intentionally destroys a human life — in the case of abortion, a violent<\/em> act that ends\u00a0innocent <\/em>human life — cannot logically be called “life-sustaining.” Abortion facilities are profitable businesses built off the blood and body parts of human beings who were killed before birth. Abortion is never medically necessary<\/a>, a fact to which thousands of doctors have attested<\/a>. Even when the mother’s health is at risk, abortion is not the answer. No preborn child has to be deliberately<\/em>\u00a0killed<\/em> before being delivered to save the mother’s life. Preterm delivery, surgery for ectopic pregnancy, and emergency C-sections are not abortions<\/a>. They are<\/em> life-sustaining medical procedures.<\/p>\n

Abortion only has one purpose – to kill.<\/p>\n
