When<\/span> Betty Friedan\u2019s<\/span><\/a>\u00a0book, “The Feminine Mystique,”\u00a0<\/span>was published in 1963, it<\/span> outlined legitimate grievances of women feeling isolated and unfulfilled in their homes. Referring to the problem as \u201cthis nameless dissatisfaction for women,\u201d the original manuscript for <\/span>Friedan\u2019s<\/span><\/a> book did not mention abortion or contraception. Her book was passionate, and it inspired women, but it did not indict them for motherhood. Rather, <\/span>Friedan<\/span><\/a> called for this new brand of feminism to be a pro-family movement.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, <\/span>sexual liberation and misandry<\/span><\/a> became the forefront of the movement, and this trend continues today. Women like Cosmopolitan editor\u00a0<\/span>Helen Gurley Brown<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(who charged motherhood with being an \u201cinsurmountable obstacle\u201d for women) and <\/span>Gloria Steinem<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(who likened marriage to prostitution) have won the public\u2019s attention. Feminism\u2019s intended purpose has been mostly forgotten by mainstream proponents of women\u2019s rights, and nowhere is this point more evident than in the recent FX\/Hulu series, “<\/span>Mrs. America<\/span>.”\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
