Featuring Ellie Langford, a research director for NARAL, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mobilize.us\/naral\/event\/265701\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">meeting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> detailed the impact these supposed falsehoods have on \u201cour lives and our elections, and how [disinformation] is spread through social media platforms like Facebook.\u201d Ironically, though the event\u2019s purpose was to train NARAL members to be wary of deceptive tactics, the webinar relied on inaccuracies to try to discredit the ever-growing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/259061\/majority-abortion-legal-limits.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pro-life movement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Listen:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/i4pAVZZiujU\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>NARAL claims most Americans favor &#8220;reproductive freedom&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The stated purpose of Langford\u2019s presentation was to help others understand \u201cthe dishonest tactics\u201d she claims the &#8220;anti-choice movement&#8221; and the &#8216;radical right&#8217; have \u201cpioneered.\u201d Langford claims that the pro-life movement has been historically unpopular, and says that even before <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a majority of Americans supported abortion, even most Republicans. She concluded that most Americans today favor \u201creproductive freedom.\u201d (Time stamp &#8211; 1:13-2:42)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But there&#8217;s a problem:\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/abortionprocedures.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abortion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> didn\u2019t officially become part of the women\u2019s movement until 1967, after a contentious debate took place at a meeting for the National Organization for Women (NOW). One-third of feminists <em>resigned<\/em> from the group after it voted to champion legalized abortion. This <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/push-abortion-splintered-women-movement\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">division<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was glossed over by the media, who highlighted NOW\u2019s alleged support for abortion and the sexual revolution, claiming this represented the views of 28 million women.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In reality, it was more like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2017\/01\/27\/abortion-activists-hijacked-womens-movement\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">57 people<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/polls-roe-women-disapproved-abortion\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Polls<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> done before <em>Roe<\/em> showed widespread disapproval for the procedure, even amongst women. The people who were most likely to support it were <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/polls-roe-women-disapproved-abortion\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sexually progressive men<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It\u2019s absolutely false to claim that \u201canti-choice\u201d people went against the majority to push an agenda. The combined efforts of the media and pro-choice men propagandized the pro-abortion movement, making it seem as if it was for women, and created by women.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This tactic isn\u2019t new, and in the past, we\u2019ve seen <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.avalanchestrategy.com\/reproductivefreedom\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NARAL<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> rely on flawed studies to make the number of Americans who support abortion seem higher.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In addition, recent polling shows that Americans actually <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/polls-overwhelming-majority-abortion-restrictions\/\">favor heavy restrictions on abortion<\/a>, with 70 percent wanting it restricted to the first trimester. This includes nearly half of those who identify as &#8220;pro-choice.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>NARAL claims pro-lifers put ideology over science<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Health disinformation, Langford said, is defined as placing ideology over science, which then puts communities at risk and helps the &#8216;far right&#8217; push policies that block \u201cnecessary abortion care.\u201d (Time stamp &#8211;\u00a03:50 \u2013 4:18)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But was NARAL looking out for at-risk communities when they were one of the last organizations to speak up about <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bogus-naral-claim-exposed-ilyse-hogue-tells-msnbc-that-her-org-was-first-gosnell-whistle-blower\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kermit Gosnell<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? Instead of using the incident to discuss the need for safety standards at abortion businesses, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-and-naral-spin-webs-around-gosnell-murders\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NARAL<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> claimed it was proof that regulations on facilities needed to be loosened &#8212; <em>even though a lack of restrictions is what allowed <\/em><\/span><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/kermit-gosnell-clinic-not-inspected-2013-4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gosnell<\/span><\/a><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em> to escape justice for so long<\/em>. Similar to NARAL, the Pennsylvania Health Department did not want there to be \u201cbarrier[s]\u201d for women who wanted abortions. Gosnell was not an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/gosnell-not-alone-need-investigations-stricter-regulations\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">outlier<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/naral-pro-choice-america-fights-to-keep-abortion-legal-but-not-safe\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NARAL<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> continues to push the idea that <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/msnbc\/back-door-abortion-ban\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">safety standards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> only make <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.prochoiceamerica.org\/what-is-choice\/abortion\/trap-laws.html?referrer=https:\/\/www.google.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">abortion dangerous<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The pro-life movement is the side that&#8217;s repeatedly using the science of <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-trimester-babies-complex\/\">fetal development<\/a> to show that abortion destroys actual, living human beings &#8212; while abortion proponents largely avoid the idea that another human is killed in an abortion.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bHe8YGPGzj4\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-naral-attacking-pregnancy-centers\/\">Pro-abortion group NARAL vows to keep attacking pregnancy centers<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>NARAL tries to link pro-life movement to white supremacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Langford, &#8220;anti-choice&#8221; groups, the far right, the alt-right, white supremacists, and men\u2019s rights activists all \u201cuse the same playbook\u201d to push disinformation. She accused the pro-life student group Students for Life of echoing memes from the \u201cneo-Nazi blog\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Daily Stormer<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Langford asserted &#8212; while giving no proof &#8212; that \u201cnot a lot of daylight separates these groups.\u201d (Time stamp &#8211;\u00a08:28 \u2013 9:24)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to citing no proof against the pro-life movement, it appears that Langford is either unaware of or in denial about the pro-abortion movement&#8217;s roots in eugenics and racism. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rarely, if ever, do abortion proponents condemn acts of violence against pro-lifers. A man roundhouse kicked a woman for simply saying she was against abortion without exception &#8212; and abortion supporters cheered. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2009\/CRIME\/09\/11\/michigan.shooting\/\">Harlan Drake<\/a>\u00a0murdered an elderly pro-lifer i<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">n September 2009 because he was offended by the older gentleman\u2019s anti-abortion material. Where was the condemnation from abortion supporters? \u00a0Coordinated attacks have been launched against\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/canadafreepress.com\/article\/australian-march-for-the-babies-turns-violent-protestors-assaulted-police-l\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pro-lifers at their own events<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and other violent assaults have been carried out by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-choice-violence-lie-alarming-frequencey\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pro-choice activists<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This attack by the pro-abortion movement is just more of the same namecalling usually instituted by desperate opponents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>NARAL attacks Live Action<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lila Rose and Live Action were accused by name of spreading the \u201cdangerous\u201d idea on Facebook that abortion is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-replies-abortion-never-medically-necessary\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">never medically necessary<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Langford stated, &#8220;In these screenshots you can see anti-choice activist Lila Rose and her organization, Live Action, pushing the dangerous health disinformation that abortion is never medically necessary. This is a claim that has been debunked time and time again by medical authorities like ACOG. And it&#8217;s an incredibly irresponsible thing to promote at a time where maternal mortality and morbidity rates are already dangerously high, especially for Black women.&#8221;\u00a0(Time stamp &#8211;\u00a012:10 \u2013 14:21)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-fact-check-live-action\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ACOG<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-obgyn-oppose-protecting-survivors\/\">definitively in favor of abortion<\/a>, yet even they have determined that pre-term delivery \u2013 <em>not abortion<\/em> \u2013 is the best course of action when health complications arise during pregnancy. Some\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.secularprolife.org\/2013\/10\/late-term-abortion-to-save-mothers-life.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">abortionists<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have admitted that the supposed medical necessity of abortion is untrue, and is merely meant to make it sound \u201cnoble.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5TmomK2RB2A\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Langford&#8217;s mention of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6788905\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">maternal mortality rates<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0neglected to state that they typically aren\u2019t just measuring deaths associated with delivery. Included are fatalities from induced abortion, tubal pregnancies, and molar pregnancies. In terms of how this affects Black women, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/worldandeverything.org\/2019\/05\/the-dangers-of-pregnancy\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Ingrid Skop<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an OB\/GYN, has noted how Black women are three times more likely to have an abortion, a procedure that can negatively affect <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/worldandeverything.org\/2019\/05\/the-dangers-of-pregnancy\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">maternal health<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Langford claimed Rose\u2019s video was flagged after being fact-checked by medical authorities (<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-unbiased-fact-checkers-anything-but\/\">they were<\/a> actually <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-live-action-false-abortionist-fact-check\/\">two abortionists<\/a>). She also claimed that Rose, alongside her supporters, began a successful pressure campaign to remove it, citing it as an example of &#8220;anti-choicers&#8221; being allowed to violate social media guidelines while everyone else plays by the rules. But Rose\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">claim <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-fact-check-misrepresented-live-actions-position\/\">was made by<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thousands of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dublindeclaration.com\/\">physicians<\/a>\u00a0long before Rose ever made the statement herself. As for &#8220;playing by the rules,&#8221; even Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-zuckerberg-fact-check\/\">noted that the fact check itself<\/a> was &#8220;inherently biased.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-survivor-congress-naral-imaginary\/\">As abortion survivor testifies to Congress, NARAL claims she\u2019s \u2018imaginary\u2019<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>NARAL&#8217;s focus during a worldwide pandemic is ensuring abortion access\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kristin Ford, the national communications director at NARAL, took over the webinar to present the questions from the chatbox. She emphasized how terms like \u201cforced pregnancy\u201d carry \u201creal power,\u201d and she reminded webinar participants to work with abortion funds during COVID-19 so women can have access to abortions. (Time stamp &#8211;\u00a039:13 \u2013 44:08)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ford said abortionists are doing their best to provide \u201cnonjudgmental care\u201d for &#8220;pregnant people&#8221; &#8212; a term she claimed should be used because women are not the only ones who can become pregnant. This nonjudgmental care apparently means promoting <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-capitalize-covid-19-expand\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dangerous at-home procedures<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
