Though abortion is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-replies-abortion-never-medically-necessary\/\">never medically necessary<\/a>, Sanders believes abortion businesses should be able to commit abortions via telemedicine, a move that would leave women at risk for major complications. Former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino explains the process and the risks in the video below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lRDnVSMr5j0\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is outrageous that right-wing politicians in states like Texas and Ohio are using this crisis to risk women&#8217;s health and safety by denying their right to abortion and other reproductive health care,&#8221; Sanders <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BernieSanders\/status\/1242569035511971849\">tweeted<\/a>. &#8220;Instead, we should be expanding access with things like telemedicine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-220757 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/sanders.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"549\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/sanders.jpg 549w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/sanders-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/sanders-500x334.jpg 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/sanders-360x240.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 549px) 100vw, 549px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Currently, government officials have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2020\/03\/25\/opinion\/code-blue-were-doctors-we-need-personal-protective-equipment-shield-us-coronavirus-now\/\">called for personal protective equipment<\/a> to be reserved for assisting with the COVID-19 crisis. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and dealing with complications from a wholly unnecessary procedure like abortion &#8212; including the abortion pill, which can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bioedge.org\/bioethics\/argentinian-doctor-given-jail-sentence-for-refusing-to-do-an-abortion\/13375\">cause<\/a>\u00a0hemorrhaging, sepsis, and even death (and of course, death for countless preborn children) &#8212; will only put further strain on an already taxed health care system and take resources that might otherwise be used to treat patients with the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/incomplete-abortion-pill-thousands-emergency-care\/\">SHOCK: Incomplete abortion pill procedures could leave thousands needing emergency care<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Expanding abortion access through telemedicine is a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/incomplete-abortion-pill-thousands-emergency-care\/\">dangerous<\/a> idea. Without an ultrasound to properly date a pregnancy and check for conditions such as ectopic pregnancy, women&#8217;s lives will be put directly at risk. The abortion pill is for use only during the first 10 weeks of pregnancy; as pregnancy progresses, so do failure rates and the potential complications for women. Taking the abortion pill during an ectopic pregnancy can result in death for the mother.
