Now, the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) and thousands of other physicians are pushing back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the scope of the coronavirus pandemic was becoming clear, healthcare professionals were scrambling to get ahead of a crisis that engulfed medical systems in areas of the world hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic. Federal and state authorities began urging citizens and medical providers to delay all non-essential medical procedures to save hospital resources for critically ill coronavirus patients.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this environment, the ACOG sought to fend off any potential threat to abortion while callously ignoring the potential strain on limited medical resources. \u201cTo the extent that hospital systems or ambulatory surgical facilities are categorizing procedures that can be delayed during the COVID-19 pandemic, abortion should not be categorized as such a procedure,\u201d ACOG\u2019s March 18th <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acog.org\/en\/News\/News%20Releases\/2020\/03\/Joint%20Statement%20on%20Abortion%20Access%20During%20the%20COVID%2019%20Outbreak\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> read. ACOG\u2019s statement makes clear the organization does not support \u201cCOVID-19 responses that cancel or delay abortion procedures.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Surgical abortion facilities will be using gowns, gloves, masks, suction tubing &#8211; all of which are crucial supplies during the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/COVID19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#COVID19<\/a> pandemic. They should not be wasted on elective procedures like abortion.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Prolife OBGYNs (@aaplog) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/aaplog\/status\/1240693676860305409?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 19, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/aaplog.org\/press-release-aaplog-statement-on-acog-abortion-agenda-during-covid-19-pandemic\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> released two days later, AAPLOG blasted ACOG for supporting enabling the abortion industry to continue \u201cbusiness as usual\u201d while \u201cthe entire healthcare profession is being called upon to conserve resources and healthcare professionals to an extent never seen before.\u201d Pointing out the fact that \u201celective abortions offer zero health benefits to women and do not treat a disease process,\u201d AAPLOG called for \u201cabortions to be suspended according to the current recommendations pertaining to elective procedures and office visits.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-leaders-hhs-abortion-exploiting-pandemic\/\">Pro-life leaders warn HHS of how the abortion industry is exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cContinuing to perform elective abortions during a pandemic is medically irresponsible. Abortions use up much needed resources such as masks, gloves, and other personal protective equipment. And the group&#8217;s extreme views on abortion do not reflect the actual practices of the majority of OBGYNs. As Live Action News recently\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-no-longer-between-woman-doctor\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a survey published in 2019 revealed that only 24% of American OBGYNs reported committing an abortion within the past year, while 76% have not.
