Abortion is not an essential service; it kills human beings in the womb, the most vulnerable among us. Not only that, but there is a very real potential for <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-complications-reported-cant-claim-safe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">complications<\/a> from surgical as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/incomplete-abortion-pill-thousands-emergency-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chemical abortion<\/a>\u00a0(abortion pill), which will divert resources from those suffering from COVID-19 (coronavirus). Despite this, some state governors seem to be paying back abortion allies like Planned Parenthood, which tend to contribute heavily to\u00a0politicians who promote their pro-abortion agenda. Below are states who are giving the abortion industry a free pass during a time of worldwide crisis:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Florida<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.com\/news\/20200327\/coronavirus-while-other-states-temporarily-ban-abortion-florida-gives-doctors-discretion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.jacksonville.com\/news\/20200327\/coronavirus-while-other-states-temporarily-ban-abortion-florida-gives-doctors-discretion&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585417853902000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHKNLk6gaUYwRf2k49ZEexq3p5MHg\">local media report<\/a> from March 27, 2020, Gov. Ron DeSantis, is allowing abortions to continue under his order.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">An email from the state\u2019s Joint Information Center on COVID-19 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.com\/news\/20200327\/coronavirus-while-other-states-temporarily-ban-abortion-florida-gives-doctors-discretion\">Jacksonville.com<\/a> reads, \u201cThis executive order allows for the delay of all non-urgent or non-emergency procedures or surgeries which, if delayed, do not place a patient\u2019s immediate health, safety or wellbeing at risk, or will, if delayed, not contribute to the worsening of a serious or life-threatening medical condition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cAt this time and under regular circumstances, medical professionals are responsible for determining the urgency of surgeries and the impact procedures will have on patients\u2026.If the medical professional decides that the patient is in need of emergency surgery and\/or that delaying the procedure will be life-threatening to the patient, they should proceed as normal.\u201d The paper went on to quote from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/planned-parenthood-south-east-north-florida\/press-releases\/essential-services-during-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/planned-parenthood-south-east-north-florida\/press-releases\/essential-services-during-covid-19&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585417853902000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEvYN_f4SO9OHSqt5OAjj3P13Vk9Q\">PP statement<\/a>, rather than the order, \u201cUnder that order, Planned Parenthood can still continue providing essential procedures, including surgical abortion, and our health centers continue to offer other health care services that our patients depend on. Our doors remain open for this care.\u201d While this report indicates the state is giving abortion a pass, it does appear to suggest that the information is coming from PP &#8211; so Live Action News will continue to momitor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Massachusetts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/massachusetts-profit-public-safety-abortions-continue-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a> documented how on March 15, 2020, Massachusetts Governor Charles D. Baker\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/massachusetts-profit-public-safety-abortions-continue-pandemic\/\">declared<\/a>\u00a0abortion to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/info-details\/covid-19-guidance-and-directives#health-care-professionals-&amp;-organizations-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exempted<\/a> from the state\u2019s \u201cnonessential\u201d health services category \u2014 therefore, considering it \u201cessential\u201d to continue during a pandemic. The abortion industry naturally has a financial self-interest in promoting abortion during a pandemic.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_220604\" style=\"width: 418px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-220604\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-220604\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Mass-carves-out-exception-for-abortion-in-COVID19-executive-order-IMage-Twitter.jpg\" alt=\"Image: Mass carves out exception for abortion in COVID19 executive order (Image: Twitter)\" width=\"408\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Mass-carves-out-exception-for-abortion-in-COVID19-executive-order-IMage-Twitter.jpg 408w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Mass-carves-out-exception-for-abortion-in-COVID19-executive-order-IMage-Twitter-300x86.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 408px) 100vw, 408px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-220604\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mass carves out exception for abortion in COVID19 executive order (Image: Twitter)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The order was made in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/info-details\/covid-19-guidance-and-directives#health-care-professionals-&amp;-organizations-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conjunction<\/a>\u00a0with an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/doc\/march-15-2020-elective-procedures-order\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emergency declaration<\/a>\u00a0issued by the governor, which\u00a0<strong><em>excludes<\/em>\u00a0abortion from being listed as a \u201cnonessential\u201d elective invasive procedure<\/strong>, stating, \u201cDPH defines nonessential, elective invasive procedures as procedures that are scheduled in advance because the procedure does not involve a medical emergency;\u00a0<strong>provided, however, that terminating a pregnancy is not considered a nonessential, elective invasive procedure for the\u00a0purpose of this guidance.<\/strong>\u00a0However, the ultimate decision is based on clinical judgement by the caring physician.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michigan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktsm.com\/news\/texas-moves-to-ban-most-abortions-due-to-virus-outbreak-2\/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter_KTSMtv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ktsm.com\/news\/texas-moves-to-ban-most-abortions-due-to-virus-outbreak-2\/?utm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Dtwitter_KTSMtv&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585258656687000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFcncAOubUWQ2cM-IuowbXFmSPxIA\">KTSM.com<\/a>, &#8220;Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan says Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer\u2019s order, issued Friday, to prohibit elective procedures does not extend to abortions. Whitmer supports abortion rights.&#8221; On March 25, 2020, the Lansing State Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lansingstatejournal.com\/story\/news\/2020\/03\/25\/michigan-clinics-still-providing-abortion-services-coronavirus\/5080860002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.lansingstatejournal.com\/story\/news\/2020\/03\/25\/michigan-clinics-still-providing-abortion-services-coronavirus\/5080860002\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585258656688000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFO5azbw_Ud0zu8i6tsLVT_mGFyQA\">acknowledged<\/a> that abortions are still being committed.<\/p>\n<p>Right to Life of Michigan has issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/rtl.org\/governor-whitmer-abortion-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/rtl.org\/governor-whitmer-abortion-coronavirus\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585258656688000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGXOTUUU6fJzP4NqAlws88SQEB2GA\">press release<\/a> calling for <span style=\"color: #000000;\">the governor to halt abortions. It reads in part, &#8220;Botched abortions can require follow-up surgical procedures or emergency room visits. Use of the abortion pill often results in complications such as excessive bleeding requiring visits to a doctor\u2019s office. Patients and staff inside abortion facilities increases the likelihood of coronavirus spreading from close contact.<\/span>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Minnesota<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.startribune.com\/gov-tim-walz-tells-minnesotans-stay-home-amid-coronavirus-outbreak\/569095212\/\">Star Tribune report<\/a> from May 25, 2020, states that while &#8220;Gov. Tim Walz issued an executive order Wednesday asking Minnesotans to stay in their homes unless absolutely necessary&#8230;\u00a0Walz specifically mentioned clinics providing reproductive healthcare as essential services allowed to stay open.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Jersey<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On March 23, 2020, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy published an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/governor\/news\/news\/562020\/approved\/20200323b.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">order<\/a>\u00a0in which he &#8212;\u00a0a staunch <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-jersey-planned-parenthood-millions-taxpayer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">supporter<\/a> of Planned Parenthood &#8212; included an exemption for abortion facilities. It states in part, &#8220;As part of the state\u2019s effort to preserve the capacity of the health care system to respond to COVID-19, Governor Phil Murphy today signed Executive Order No. 109, directing the suspension of all elective surgeries and invasive procedures performed on adults that are scheduled to take place after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27. The Governor\u2019s Executive Order applies to all medical and dental operations that can be delayed without undue risk to the current or future health of the patient, as determined by the patient\u2019s physician or dentist.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the suspension outlined above, Governor Murphy\u2019s Executive Order also requires the following:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Protecting the capacity of hospitals<\/strong>: Physicians and dentists, who are planning to perform surgery or invasive procedures in their offices, must consider the potential burden of post-surgery complications on local hospitals prior to performing any operation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><strong>Explicit exemption for family planning and termination of pregnancies<\/strong>: The order provides that it shall not be interpreted in any way to limit access to family planning services, including termination of pregnancies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_220603\" style=\"width: 1211px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-220603\" decoding=\"async\" York<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Buzzfeed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeednews.com\/article\/emaoconnor\/coronavirus-abortion-clinics-open-planned-parenthood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0earlier this week that abortion facilities were still open in New York during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_220613\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-220613\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-220613\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/video-audio-photos-rush-transcript-amid-ongoing-covid-19-pandemic-governor-cuomo-accepts&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585239586057000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHDEc73evUJoBJhbwGVNwZ4LS4s4Q\">canceled<\/a> all elective surgeries in the state, effective March 25, 2020, but the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/sites\/governor.ny.gov\/files\/atoms\/files\/EO_202.10.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/sites\/governor.ny.gov\/files\/atoms\/files\/EO_202.10.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585239586057000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGrY-yKimWpWIOztAY6BH3kEz-fJg\">executive order<\/a> did not mention abortion.\u00a0Planned Parenthood is headquartered in New York and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ppgnyact\/photos\/a.136328189902\/10158699703174903\/?type=3&amp;theater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ppgnyact\/photos\/a.136328189902\/10158699703174903\/?type%3D3%26theater&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585239586057000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE3AQ0PAcKrTXPjfg8QyOkV_bm_oA\">indicated<\/a> they are open during the COVID-19 crisis, calling abortion &#8220;essential healthcare.&#8221; However, a message on the Planned Parenthood of Greater New York affiliate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/planned-parenthood-greater-new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/planned-parenthood-greater-new-york&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585239586058000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFrf7YoVcVrxPDsDk9aC6Uwh2qoUQ\">website<\/a> states, &#8220;Our health centers in Bronx, Glen Cove, Goshen, Hornell, Kingston, Massapequa, Monticello, Oneida, Queens, Rome, Staten Island, and Watkins Glen will be closed on Wednesday, 3\/25.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Then, on March 26, 2020, New York Attorney General Letitia James released a <a href=\"https:\/\/ag.ny.gov\/press-release\/2020\/attorney-general-james-fights-ensure-women-nationwide-are-able-obtain-abortions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/ag.ny.gov\/press-release\/2020\/attorney-general-james-fights-ensure-women-nationwide-are-able-obtain-abortions&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585332483613000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFNxSpOAonaXNTtesRU7xN1mfT4eQ\">statement<\/a> calling for local and federal\u00a0officials to to protect abortion access during\u00a0the COVID-19 crisis. It read in part (emphasis added):<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>To be clear, the coronavirus is not an excuse for federal, state, or local governments to curtail women\u2019s reproductive freedoms or limit their choices. <strong>Any woman who wants to go into a doctor\u2019s office or into a clinic today and get an abortion should continue to be able to do so<\/strong>. And for those who do not feel comfortable leaving their homes as we battle COVID-19, <strong>we are fighting to maintain women\u2019s access to abortion and the abortion pill<\/strong> so that their reproductive choices are not limited.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>North Carolina<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On March 20, 2020, the state published an <a href=\"https:\/\/files.nc.gov\/ncdhhs\/COVID-19-Elective-Surgeries.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/files.nc.gov\/ncdhhs\/COVID-19-Elective-Surgeries.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585265392493000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGykSVcTdVx6kKJelNk11JjEZb1Iw\">order<\/a> requiring that \u201call hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers suspend all elective and non-urgent procedures and surgeries. Elective and non-urgent procedures and surgeries are defined as any procedure or surgery that if not done within the next 4 weeks would cause harm to the patient. Beginning today, March 20th, hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers should institute an explicit, real-time review of all non-time sensitive procedures and surgeries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktsm.com\/news\/texas-moves-to-ban-most-abortions-due-to-virus-outbreak-2\/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter_KTSMtv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ktsm.com\/news\/texas-moves-to-ban-most-abortions-due-to-virus-outbreak-2\/?utm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Dtwitter_KTSMtv&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585265392493000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGI_rbJToxfDIJ6zvIuNEVvZH4Rkw\">KTSM.com<\/a>, &#8220;North Carolina, health department spokeswoman Sarah Peel said abortion clinics would not be covered by a directive asking hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers to suspend all elective and non-urgent procedures and surgeries.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Virginia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">On March 25, 2020, Virginia <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovernorVA\/status\/1242915751880790016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovernorVA\/status\/1242915751880790016&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585257489556000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE9SxdgD_CLncr-w9hO4L3FuuakeQ\">Governor Ralph Northam<\/a> issued an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.virginia.gov\/newsroom\/all-releases\/2020\/march\/headline-855474-en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.governor.virginia.gov\/newsroom\/all-releases\/2020\/march\/headline-855474-en.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1585257489556000&amp;usg=AFQjCNET62ue-jjfIKaZxOmp4EeoE7pRcQ\">order<\/a> that \u201cdirected all hospitals to stop performing elective surgeries or procedures to help conserve supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE)&#8230;.\u201d\u00a0He then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.virginia.gov\/media\/governorvirginiagov\/executive-actions\/Order-of-Public-Health-Emergency-Two---Order-of-The-Governor-and-State-Health-Commissioner.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"
