However, it plans to consolidate its &#8220;services&#8221; &#8212; and employees &#8212; to six remaining facilities, three of which commit surgical abortions.\u00a0The facilities of Near North, Aurora, and Springfield all commit surgical abortions, and the remaining three (Austin, Flossmoor, and Peoria) &#8212; along with Springfield &#8212; commit chemical abortion by abortion pill. Some of these facilities will extend their hours.<\/p>\n<p>PPIL did not say how long the facilities would be closed but anticipated that it would be for at least &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/planned-parenthood-to-temporarily-close-all-but-6-illinois-locations-during-coronavirus-outbreak\/2240887\/\">the next few weeks<\/a>.&#8221; The state, along with several others, now has a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aberdeennews.com\/news\/national\/pritzker-announces-shelter-in-place-order-in-illinois-starting-saturday\/article_f6c16897-7b90-5f91-8a83-2dff35c42f96.html\">&#8220;shelter in place&#8221; order<\/a> from its governor, set to go into effect on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Planned Parenthood of Illinois is taking all necessary precautions to keep our staff and patients healthy and well,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/2020\/3\/19\/21187792\/planned-parenthood-close-illinois-locations-chicago-aurora-springfield-flossmoor-peoria\">said<\/a> Dr. Amy Whitaker, Chief Medical Officer at PPIL. &#8220;This temporary consolidation of services is just one part of that. Patients will still need family planning services and abortion care during this time, and we are committed to providing it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But what happens if and when a surgical abortion or abortion pill patient experiences complications? They must seek emergency care at already-burdened emergency rooms.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We are closing businesses and temp. ruining our economy in an effort to save thousands of lives, yet Planned Parenthood continues to take them. All <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/abortion?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#abortion<\/a> facilities should be closed alongside other non-essential businesses in Los Angeles. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VkjT5yFmhq\">https:\/\/t.co\/VkjT5yFmhq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Kristan Hawkins (@KristanHawkins) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KristanHawkins\/status\/1240977613033811971?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 20, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-capitalize-covid-19-expand\/\">Abortion industry attempts to capitalize on COVID-19 pandemic to expand abortion<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As doctors across the country cancel elective surgeries, Planned Parenthood still considers abortion to be non-elective, calling itself &#8220;an essential health care provider.&#8221; However, they are telling patients to reschedule what they consider &#8220;non-essential appointments&#8221; and that those seeking birth control or concerned about urinary tract infections should call Planned Parenthood Direct.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing to offer abortions as if they are part of &#8220;essential&#8221; health care &#8212; when in reality, <em><strong>every abortion claims at least one human life<\/strong><\/em> &#8212; puts an unnecessary burden on a healthcare system that is currently pulling out all the stops in an attempt to <em>save<\/em> the lives of human beings suffering from COVID-19. This is counterproductive and contradictory in every way.<\/p>\n<p>The American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) <a href=\"https:\/\/aaplog.org\/press-release-aaplog-statement-on-acog-abortion-agenda-during-covid-19-pandemic\/\">noted in a press release<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Continuing to perform elective abortions during a pandemic is medically\u00a0irresponsible. Abortions use up much needed resources such as masks, gloves, and other personal\u00a0protective equipment. The practice also potentially generates more patients to be seen in already\u00a0overburdened emergency rooms. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Approximately 5% of women who undergo medication abortions will\u00a0require evaluation in the hospital, most commonly for hemorrhage. Uterine perforation and\u00a0hemorrhage can occur with surgical abortions. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Because most abortion providers do not manage their\u00a0own complications, instead instructing women to go to an ER if they have problems, emergency rooms\u00a0who are already struggling to keep up with the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to need to provide\u00a0care to these women. Our nation faces a critical blood shortage during this time, which will also\u00a0negatively impact women\u2019s health who experience abortion-related hemorrhage.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And yet, in states like Massachusetts &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CaroleNovielli\/status\/1241358526234210308\">and many others<\/a> &#8212; abortion is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/massachusetts-profit-public-safety-abortions-continue-pandemic\/\">excluded from a list of &#8220;nonessential&#8221; procedures<\/a> and will be allowed to continue unabated. California appears to be taking the same approach, though the entire state has just been placed under a mandated &#8220;stay at home&#8221; order with the closing of all &#8220;non-essential&#8221; businesses:<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In CA, where Newsom has issued a stay at home order and closed non-essential businesses, Planned Parenthood affiliates remain open.
