March 10th will now be known as Abortion Provider Appreciation Day in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after the city council voted 7-0 in favor, <\/span>CBS reports<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The vote came in Tuesday night, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey made the announcement Wednesday morning. The day is supposed to commemorate the killing of Florida abortionist David Gunn, who was shot and killed on March 10, 1993. The <\/span>timing of the resolution<\/span><\/a> comes shortly after oral arguments<\/a>\u00a0took place at\u00a0the Supreme Court<\/span>\u00a0regarding whether Louisiana abortionists should be required to have hospital admitting privileges like other doctors.<\/span><\/p>\n

During his announcement, Mayor Frey singled out Whole Woman\u2019s Health abortion facility as delivering \u201chigh quality care\u201d and called the abortion chain \u201can essential part of our community.\u201d However, Whole Woman\u2019s Health is an abortion franchise with a dangerous history. The chain has locations in Minnesota and four other states, where health and safety inspection reports have shown a long list of violations, including a lack of proper <\/span>sanitation<\/span><\/a> and a failure to keep track of narcotics, as well as multiple failed inspections, as Live Action News has <\/span>reported<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The measure immediately received major pushback. The Archdiocese of St. Paul said in an email that Catholics should send letters to object to the new resolution. \u201cBe civil, but be direct and firm,\u201d it read, according to <\/span>Catholic News Agency<\/span><\/a>. \u201cWhat they have done is unconscionable.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

An editorial from a local citizen <\/span>pointed out<\/span><\/a> that pro-life charities should receive equal treatment. Senator Mark Johnson separately concurred. \u201cMovements like this are indicative of the moral decline occurring in Minnesota and across our country,\u201d he said in a <\/span>statement<\/span><\/a>. \u201cInstead of celebrating abortion providers and their destructive habits, let\u2019s take a moment to celebrate life and our local organizations who are on the front lines protecting women\u2019s and children\u2019s health.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Contrary to what Mayor Frey claimed, abortion facilities like Whole Woman\u2019s Health are not a necessary part of women\u2019s health care. A <\/span>number of pregnancy resource centers<\/span><\/a> are available in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area to provide support to mothers experiencing unplanned pregnancies. For any services not offered by PRCs, <\/span>Federally Qualified Health Centers<\/span><\/a> are able to provide comprehensive <\/span>primary care services<\/span><\/a>. Around the country, high quality, pro-life health care is also provided by innovative pro-life clinics like <\/span>Obria<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Twitter, Planned Parenthood <\/span>declared the day a national holiday<\/span><\/a> and sent out celebratory nationwide texts. <\/span><\/p>\n
