This is discrimination, she and her mother Liz say, and it makes Heidi feel like &#8220;nobody loves me&#8221; &#8212; or rather, that nobody loves children like her who have Down syndrome.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FC5News%2Fvideos%2F1689617214513977%2F&amp;show_text=1&amp;width=476\" width=\"476\" height=\"675\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Rather than attempting to get rid of abortion altogether, the Crowters and others have chosen to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-51612884\">focus their campaign<\/a> on making all things equal, in a sense &#8212; attempting to get the UK to restrict abortions for babies with non-fatal disabilities like Down syndrome to 24 weeks, like everyone else.<\/p>\n<p>But what&#8217;s ignored in a law allowing abortion up to 24 weeks is the fact that babies born before the 24-week mark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellfamily.com\/premature-birth-and-viability-2371529\">can and do survive<\/a>. Kayla Ibarra&#8217;s twin girls were <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/doctors-twins-22-weeks-doctor-stepped-in\/\">born at 22 weeks and survived<\/a>, thanks to a doctor willing to help them. Lyla Stensrud was <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/21-weeks-premature-baby-survive\/\">born at 21 weeks<\/a> and survived. <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ellie-21-weeks-guests-state-of-union\/\">So was Eliora<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, it isn&#8217;t just babies born between 20 and 24 weeks that should be given a chance at life. Science has long confirmed that that life begins at the moment of fertilization, and by 21 days, a preborn child has a heartbeat. By 39 days, brain waves can be detected. Between eight and nine weeks, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-trimester-babies-complex\/\">according to a previous Live Action News article<\/a>, &#8220;[t]he fetus stage begins. A girl now has eggs in her ovaries, and a baby at this stage can suck his thumb, move his tongue, sigh, stretch, move his head, and open his mouth. According to EHD, &#8216;right- and left-handedness emerges.'&#8221; This is how all preborn children develop in the womb &#8212; those with non-fatal disabilities like Down syndrome, and those without.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/offered-abortion-two-days-birth-down-syndrome\/\">SHOCK: Mom offered abortion two days before giving birth to son with Down syndrome<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Heidi and her mother have good reason to believe that children in the womb with disabilities are treated differently than those without disabilities. Worldwide, it seems that there is a search and destroy mission being waged on children with Down syndrome with countries like Iceland even <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/iceland-isnt-eradicating-down-syndrome-it-is-killing-every-person-who-has-it\/\">boasting that they have &#8216;eradicated&#8217; the condition<\/a>&#8230; by aborting every child diagnosed with it. And, as Live Action News&#8217; Cassy Fiano-Chesser <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/twin-girls-down-syndrome-abort-six-times\/\">recently noted<\/a>, &#8220;Many mothers have negative diagnosis experiences&#8221; when it comes to Down syndrome. &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.downsyndromeprenataltesting.com\/physicians-too-many-doing-down-syndrome-prenatal-testing-wrong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to one study<\/a>, just 11% of women reported having a positive diagnosis experience, while a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianskotko.com\/documents\/ajmgprenatalguidelinesfinal.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">survey of doctors<\/a> found that at least 13% <em>purposely overemphasize<\/em> the negative aspects of Down syndrome in an effort to pressure women into having abortions,&#8221; she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom line is that all children have value and deserve to be treated with dignity.
