The latest offender is VICE, with an article called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en_us\/article\/884m9x\/how-to-do-your-own-abortion-with-pills\">What to Know About Giving Yourself an Abortion<\/a>.\u201d Abortion groups have been <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-probes-mail-abortion-pill-diy\/\">pushing unsupervised, at-home abortions<\/a>, a dangerous and unsafe practice, for years. Recently, pro-abortion groups have become <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pills-veterinarians-diy-abortions\/\">much more vocal<\/a> about their aim to illegally distribute abortion pills online and teach women how to \u201csafely\u201d end the lives of their preborn children without medical supervision.<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pills-veterinarians-diy-abortions\/\">another recent<\/a> \u201cguide\u201d to ending your baby\u2019s life in the comfort of your own home included a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pills-veterinarians-diy-abortions\/\">disclaimer<\/a> from the author which read, \u201cI am neither a lawyer nor a medical professional, and this guide should not be a substitute for legal or medical advice,\u201d the VICE article contains no such disclaimer. In fact, the author of the piece in VICE sought the endorsement and advice of an abortionist lending the impression that the breezy guide to medical abortion <em>is, <\/em>in fact, medical advice.<\/p>\n<p>Author Marie Solis brought in none other than abortionist <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-men-legalize-expand-abortion\/\">Daniel Grossman<\/a>, one of the foremost activists pushing for at-home abortions. Despite posing as an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-unbiased-fact-checkers-anything-but\/\">unbiased\u201d fact-checker<\/a>, Grossman has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-unbiased-fact-checkers-anything-but\/\">decades of professional and financial ties<\/a> to the major players in the industry, including DANCO Laboratories, the manufacturer of the abortion pill. For years, Grossman has been behind some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-men-legalize-expand-abortion\/\">industry-funded \u201cstudies\u201d<\/a> on at-home abortion pill use. Mentioning only that Grossman is \u201can OBGYN and the director of Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health, a program at the University of California, San Francisco,\u201d the article fails to disclose Grossman\u2019s financial relationship with the manufacturer of the abortion pill and history of promoting so-called \u201cself-managed\u201d abortion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1YuYvyIGWlM\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The article&#8217;s author claims that \u201cany abortion with pills is \u2018self-managed\u2019 to some degree.\u201d While it is true that the current pill protocol involves mothers ingesting the pills in a doctor\u2019s office or abortion facility and then being sent home with the rest of the pill regimen, often without adequate preparation, women are then on their own to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-documentary-formed-baby\/\">cope with the pain and discomfort<\/a> that can occur during the abortion and are alone and unsupervised when they <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-documentary-formed-baby\/\">deliver the now-deceased baby<\/a>. Women have described the experience as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-documentary-formed-baby\/\">horrific<\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/humiliating-terrifying-pro-abortion-pill-horror\/\">humiliating, and terrifying<\/a>.\u201d This fact should serve as an indictment of the abortion industry and the lack of information and support offered to mothers not a reason to promote illegally purchasing pills online and doing your own abortion.<\/p>\n<p>In Solis\u2019s article, Grossman provides criteria for assessing if you\u2019re a \u201cgood candidate\u201d for the method before ending your baby\u2019s life. The major concerns are gestational age, as the pills are only intended for use in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy, and if abortion pills are taken during an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy it can be fatal for the mother. However, Grossman doesn\u2019t mention that <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pills-veterinarians-diy-abortions\/\">underestimating the gestational age of the baby<\/a> happens frequently and results in an <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/incomplete-abortion-pill-thousands-emergency-care\/\">increased failure rate of the abortion pill<\/a> as well as additional increased risks for the mother.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-horror-women-pro-lifers-truth\/\">Abortion pill horror stories from pro-choice women prove pro-lifers are telling the truth<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Solis recommends using the site Plan C to find an <em>illegal<\/em> supplier of abortion pills online. She mentions only that the site\u2019s highest-ranking service is \u201crun by a licensed physician,\u201d abortionist <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/dutch-abortionist-sues-fda-illegal-abortion-pills\/\">Rebecca Gomperts<\/a>, and fails to mention that the website Plan C conducted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.contraceptionjournal.org\/article\/S0010-7824(17)30475-4\/fulltext\">2017 study<\/a> showing that abortion pills purchased from 18 websites contained the labeled active ingredient at <em>more or less<\/em> the written dose.<\/p>\n<p>Solis writes, \u201cSelf-inducing or self-managing an abortion is now synonymous with taking pills, a\u00a0safe and effective\u00a0method of ending a pregnancy.\u201d Notably, Solis links to an <a href=\"https:\/\/obgyn.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/jog.13716\">article<\/a> on the efficacy of mifepristone &#8212; which kills the baby by cutting off the nutrient supply &#8212; and misoprostol, which induces contractions to deliver the deceased baby. Many women illegally acquiring abortion pills are only able to acquire misoprostol, which significantly increases the abortion failure rate. Even when both mifepristone and misoprostol are available, there is still a failure rate requiring surgical intervention to prevent life-threatening infection. Women on Web, recommended by Solis, includes in its own statistics that 6.8% of women\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenonweb.org\/en\/page\/521\/about-women-on-web\"><strong>required follow-up surgical abortions<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0after the abortion pills failed. Live Action News recently estimated that based on current failure percentage ranges, up to\u00a0<strong>31,000<\/strong> women could experience an abortion pill failure <em>every single year<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lRDnVSMr5j0\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With no mention of the likelihood of surgery following a failed abortion, Grossman recommends only that women seek medical attention if there is a prolonged fever or severe bleeding after the abortion. Otherwise, Grossman claims, the discomfort of the abortion can be effectively treated at home with ibuprofen and a warm bath, a suggestion which does not even come close to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bled-40-days-abortion-pill\/\">many women\u2019s abortion pill experiences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the VICE article suggests that the only danger in taking abortion pills purchased illegally over the internet without any medical supervision is the possibility of facing legal repercussions in the few states that have outlawed self-managed abortion. Solis quotes abortion activist Robin Marty who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en_us\/article\/884m9x\/how-to-do-your-own-abortion-with-pills\">says<\/a>, \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of mythology around self-managed abortion. But if we keep spreading information and resources as widely as possible, people will start to understand that there\u2019s no danger in these pills\u2014the only danger is the legal jeopardy, and that\u2019s the problem.\u201d The fact that a preborn child will lose her life and a mother may face irremediable harm are real and significant dangers.
