This week, the Colorado House State Veterans and Military Affairs Committee rejected a bill<\/a> that would require abortionists to provide care to babies who survive an attempted abortion. Colorado Politics reports<\/a> that the vote was split along party lines with the Democrat majority voting to kill the bill — along with another pro-life measure — after seven hours of testimony.<\/p>\n

“It’s not an abortion bill,” argued<\/a> Rep. Shane Sandridge (R-Colorado Springs) the sponsor of a bill. “It’s a murder bill.” Likewise, Representative Shane Sandrige, a Republican representing El Paso County,\u00a0told<\/a> the committee, \u201cIf this bill dies today, that is saying it is okay, I hate to use the words, to finish off a baby after a failed abortion and the child is born.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rep. Chris Kennedy (D-Lakewood) who chairs the committee, claimed<\/a> the legislation protecting abortion survivors could have an effect of \u201climiting access to abortion in this state,\u201d which prompted him to reject providing legal protection for babies born alive in abortions in a state where elective abortion is legal up to birth<\/a>.<\/p>\n
