(Pregnancy Help News<\/a>)\u00a0A left-leaning UK-based website backed by a fiscal clearinghouse for billionaire social justice investor George Soros is the latest group to try its hand at discrediting on-the-ground pro-life work with the claim that pregnancy help centers are misleading women.<\/p>\n

OpenDemocracy also fabricated a direct tie between the Trump Administration and Heartbeat International in its hit piece published Monday, \u201cTrump-linked religious \u2018extremists\u2019 target women with disinformation worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the group\u2019s allegations is that, \u201cHeartbeat International claims close ties to the White House.\u201d<\/p>\n

The inexplicable statement was put forth without proof, yet presented as fact along with the rest of OpenDemocracy\u2019s pro-abortion essay.<\/p>\n

The group approached Heartbeat International under the guise of requesting comment after having completed an undercover investigation into 18 international Heartbeat affiliate pregnancy help organizations. In addition to alleging that Heartbeat affiliates were giving “false and misleading information” to women and otherwise treating them poorly, the inquiry also indicated that the group\u2019s undercover mole in two Heartbeat training courses witnessed the teaching of \u201cincorrect\u201d information.<\/p>\n

But the Soros-backed website neither substantiated its claims nor gave adequate time for them to be scrutinized.<\/b><\/p>\n

The group\u2019s report derives from its pro-abortion animus toward the work that pregnancy help organizations do<\/a>, Heartbeat International Director of Communications and Marketing Andrea Trudden said, versus any actual misinformation on the part of pregnancy help centers.<\/p>\n

The<\/a> abortion<\/a> lobby<\/a> has continually<\/a> waged<\/a> a \u201cfake clinic\u201d offensive<\/a> on<\/a> pro-life centers <\/a>in recent years<\/a> as it tries<\/a> to preserve<\/a> its public image<\/a> and funding<\/a>, following<\/a> revelations of fetal remains trafficking in the abortion industry beginning in 2015, the unexpected U.S. presidential loss election the following year of rabid abortion proponent Hillary Clinton, and subsequent pro-life legislative strides at federal and state level since. At times<\/a>, the campaign<\/a> has involved<\/a> vandalism or other forms<\/a> of intimidation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not misinformation, this is accurate information that you are misreporting\u201d<\/h4>\n

Trudden had effectively assessed<\/a> the abortion lobby\u2019s<\/a> \u201cfake clinic\u201d campaigns<\/a> in an op-ed last November.<\/p>\n

\u201cFalsely claiming that pregnancy centers \u201crely on deception\u201d to provide these services, the abortion lobby has regularly and contemptuously labeled them “fake clinics,<\/strong><\/a>” Trudden said at the time, \u201cand targeting them through harmful legislation that abridges their free speech rights and drives women to abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact is U.S. pregnancy help centers served nearly 2 million people with free services in 2017, saving communities at least $161 million,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Soros-backed OpenDemocracy said in its inquiry to Heartbeat that based on its findings, \u201ccritics say you are backing a dangerous and unethical global misinformation war on pregnant women, supporting and encouraging misinformation and manipulation on an extraordinary scale across the world through your network of crisis centres and affiliates which deliberately trick and deceive and scare women, and threaten women\u2019s human rights, by omitting information and providing them with false claims.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe stand by our training and by our values,\u201d Heartbeat President Jor-El Godsey said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not misinformation,\u201d Godsey said in response to the group\u2019s comments. \u201cThis is accurate information that you are misreporting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Godsey added that the bias was further underscored by the group\u2019s handling of its inquiry with Heartbeat.<\/p>\n

OpenDemocracy approached Heartbeat with its inquiry Friday with a deadline of first thing Monday morning. With much of Heartbeat leadership traveling in support of the pregnancy help movement at the time, Trudden requested additional time to respond, during which Heartbeat was contacted by another media outlet already seeking comment\u2014hours before the deadline.<\/p>\n

Among the information the other outlet had received from the OpenDemocracy group as of Monday was that, \u201cSeveral pro-choice advocates called for action against anti-abortion network Heartbeat International following the release of a report on Tuesday by far-left organization openDemocracy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Heartbeat International<\/a> was the first network of pro-life pregnancy resource centers in the U.S. and is the most extensive in the world. Since its establishment in 1971, Heartbeat has supported and\/or started more than 2,800 pregnancy help locations worldwide to offer women alternatives to abortion.<\/p>\n

A non-profit federation of faith-based pregnancy resource centers, medical clinics, maternity homes and non-profit adoption agencies, Heartbeat\u2019s affiliates must adhere to basic principles that affirm alternatives to abortion and ensure non-discrimination, but all other matters of policy and management remain under the direction of the centers\u2019 local leadership, allowing for autonomy.<\/p>\n

In addition to Heartbeat\u2019s extensive work supporting pregnancy help centers worldwide in their daily work, the organization\u2019s Option Line<\/a>, the U.S.\u2019s only fully-staffed, 24\/7\/365 bilingual pro-life contact center, has reached more 3.75 million women and men and helped countless more since its establishment in 2003 \u2013 saving untold lives.<\/p>\n

Soros group funded by mega-donor, advocates abortion, left-wing causes<\/h4>\n

OpenDemocracy states on its website that through its \u201creporting and analysis of social and political issues,\u201d it \u201cseeks to educate citizens to challenge power and encourage democratic debate across the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Its \u201cfiscal sponsor\u201d is NEO Philanthropy, which Capital Research Center\u2019s (CRC) Influence Watch terms<\/a> \u201ca fiscal clearinghouse for left-of-center causes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Much of \u201cAmerican mega-funder\u201d NEO\u2019s nearly $340 million in revenues since 2010, \u201ccame from multi-billion-dollar foundations,\u201d CRC\u2019s Hayden Ludwig reports<\/a>, including the Ford Foundation and George Soros\u2019s Foundation to Promote Open Society.<\/p>\n

The Ford Foundation<\/a> and Soros\u2019 Foundation to Promote Open Society<\/a>\/Open Society Foundations<\/a>are strident in their support for abortion.<\/p>\n

Soros himself is known for extensive funding of projects in keeping with<\/a> his leftward<\/a>political bent\u00a0through varied groups worldwide<\/a>, including, according<\/a> to the Independent<\/em>, making substantial donations<\/a> to Hillary Clinton\u2019s unsuccessful bid to be the U.S.\u00a0 president, pledging \u00a3400k to campaign against Brexit, as OpenDemocracy stated via its Facebook page<\/a>, and according to its own website<\/a> \u201cthe campaign to defeat George W. Bush in America\u2019s 2004 election.\u201d<\/p>\n

OpenDemocracy has a left-center bias<\/a> rating from the Media Bias\/Fact Check website, but calls itself far left, as stated in its information promoting its pro-abortion report to media outlets.<\/p>\n

The by-line bios on its Heartbeat hit piece also point to a pro-abortion bent, with its 50.50 newsletter editor Claire Provost, \u201ccovering gender, sexuality and social justice,\u201d and assistant editor Nandini Archer, \u201calso an active member of the feminist direct action group Sisters Uncut and previously worked with the International Campaign for Women’s Right to Safe Abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n

No substantiation for claim of White House tie<\/h4>\n

OpenDemocracy\u2019s claim that Heartbeat has \u201cclose ties to the White House\u201d depended on three dubious statements, first, Heartbeat having been invited to join a roundtable that\u00a0 Students for Life of American held in 2018 with Vice President Mike Pence, falsely stated in the article as Pence \u201chaving spoken at Heartbeat events on Capitol Hill.\u201d<\/p>\n

The report\u2019s second problematic statement on supposed White House-Heartbeat ties was that once in 2019 President Trump happened to speak positively about the 2018 Supreme Court Nifla v. Becerra<\/em><\/a> decision in favor of pregnancy centers.<\/p>\n

Third for dicey statements in the report claiming proof of a Heartbeat-White House connection, was Godsey encouraging affiliates to consider applying for Title X funds after Planned Parenthood walked away from the funds rather than give up conducting and referring for abortion. Godsey referenced \u201cnew friends in Washington\u201d in doing so, an acknowledgement of the current Administration\u2019s openness to the pro-life cause, something recognized by the pro-life community across the board and beyond.<\/p>\n

Further in the group\u2019s feigned White House connection was Heartbeat\u2019s Babies Go to Congress<\/a>, where Heartbeat annually invites moms and the pregnancy centers who have helped them to share their stories with their respective lawmakers in meetings at the lawmakers\u2019 offices. OpenDemocracy also tried to use Trump\u2019s appearance this year at the march for Life, the first time for a sitting president, as evidence of Heartbeat having a direct tie to the White House….<\/p>\n
