Planned Parenthood <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/learn\/abortion\/the-abortion-pill\">says<\/a>\u00a0the abortion pill is &#8220;a safe and effective way to end an early pregnancy&#8221; which is &#8220;kind of like having a really heavy, crampy period.&#8221; While Live Action News has discussed the fact that it <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/obgyn-four-reasons-question-safety-of-at-home-abortions\/\">isn&#8217;t as safe<\/a> as some make it out to be, and that numerous women have had <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/humiliating-terrifying-pro-abortion-pill-horror\/\">horrifying experiences<\/a> with the abortion pill, what&#8217;s not often discussed is the fact that it is often far less than &#8220;effective.&#8221;\u00a0Thousands of women could potentially be in need of emergency care or a second abortion when the abortion pill fails.<\/p>\n<p>Abortion advocates are pushing &#8220;self-managed&#8221; abortion as safe and simple, yet their own statistics reveal that the abortion pill regimen fails between 7,000 to 24,000 times annually &#8212; or even as high as 31,000 times a year. This means women could potentially need a second (surgical) abortion. Currently, an FDA safety system known as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/scripts\/cder\/rems\/index.cfm?event=RemsDetails.page&amp;REMS=390\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">REMS<\/a>\u00a0requires <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/postmarket-drug-safety-information-patients-and-providers\/questions-and-answers-mifeprex\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prescribers<\/a> of the abortion pill to accurately determine the correct gestational age of the preborn baby, detect an ectopic pregnancy if one exists, and have a means to provide emergency care to patients. In many cases, the abortion facility will require the woman to return to verify that the abortion was complete. If abortion advocates <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/senators-fda-removing-abortion-pill-safety\/\">succeed in getting the FDA to do away with REMS<\/a>, abortion advocates will shift that responsibility to the woman or teen girl, many of whom may be unaware that their abortions were incomplete. This is potentially life threatening.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dTsUsy30Q8A\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The abortion pill regimen consists of two pills: Mifeprex (regulated under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/scripts\/cder\/rems\/index.cfm?event=RemsDetails.page&amp;REMS=390\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">REMS<\/a>\u00a0system) and Misoprostol. The regimen is\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">approved for use through 70 days (10 weeks) of pregnancy. is\u00a0<strong>95-98% effective<\/strong>&#8230;.\u00a0<strong>If the pregnancy tissue has not passed, you might need a D&amp;C or to repeat the Misoprostol.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Claim of <a style=\"font-style: italic;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wa-wc.com\/medical-abortion-medication.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">96-98% effective<\/a>\/2-4% failure rate<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wa-wc.com\/abortion-can-the-abortion-fail.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Alabama Women&#8217;s Center<\/a>: &#8220;There is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wa-wc.com\/medical-abortion-medication.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">96-98% chance<\/a> the medications will be successful in bringing on an abortion.&#8221;Asked how the patient will know the abortion is complete, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wa-wc.com\/abortion-faq.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clinic<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wa-wc.com\/medical-abortion-how-will-i-know-when-its-complete.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advises<\/a>, &#8220;<strong>The only way to be certain that the abortion is over is to come back to the clinic for your follow-up visit.&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong>They add, &#8220;The embryo is usually a small amount of white tissue, and sometimes it is inside a blood clot. Even if you see it close up, it doesn\u2019t look like a baby&#8230;. Their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/genbiopro.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/genbiopro-is-it-right-for-you.pdf\">online pamphlet<\/a> states, \u201cEvery year in the United States, more than 200,000 women manage their unwanted pregnancy through medical abortion&#8230;.\u00a0<strong>2-7%<\/strong>\u2014will need a follow-up surgical procedure to end their pregnancy or to stop too much bleeding.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Based on this, how many chemical abortions fail annually?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using the 200,000 number from GenBioPro as a base total, this translates into <strong>4,000 to 14,000<\/strong> abortion pill patients who run the risk of needing a second, more invasive <em>surgical<\/em> abortion.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using Guttmacher&#8217;s<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2017<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0total of 339,640 chemical abortions as a base along\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with failure rates of 2% to 7% noted by the manufacturer, we calculate a range between <strong>7,000 and 24,000<\/strong>. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using Planned Parenthood&#8217;s percentage range (2% to 9%) against 339,640, we calculate that abortion pill failures could affect <strong>7,000 to 31,000<\/strong> women annually.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Warnings:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Little Rock Family Planning abortion facility\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lrfps.com\/abortion-services\/medical-abortion-ru486\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warns<\/a> patients that they should <em><strong>not<\/strong> <\/em>obtain a medication abortion if, &#8220;You cannot easily get emergency medical help should a problem occur.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Northland Family Planning abortion facility <a href=\"https:\/\/northlandfamilyplanning.com\/abortion-pill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warns<\/a> that, &#8220;A medical abortion\u00a0has a slightly higher failure rate than\u00a0surgical abortion&#8230;.&#8221; The facility\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/northlandfamilyplanning.com\/at-home-abortions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">calls<\/a> the purchase of abortion pills online &#8220;dangerous,&#8221; writing:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>We know that more women are attempting to buy pills online to end their pregnancies; however, when you buy pills from the Internet you do not know what you are really getting. While rare, if you experience an ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy in which the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus) and it is not properly diagnosed and treated by a physician, it could be life threatening&#8230;.The abortion pill, prescribed by a physician, is a safe way to have a self-managed abortion at home. It is in your best interest to be seen by a physician who is an expert in abortion care.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Shockingly, this late-term abortion facility in Florida <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenscenter.com\/medical_chemical_abortion.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advises<\/a>\u00a0women, &#8220;It is possible up to 4, 5, 6 or 7 months or further to undergo a medical chemical abortion procedure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Pro-abortion ER Doctor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8JZBzhk8Mzs\">Dara Kass<\/a>\u00a0pointed out, &#8220;Recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0010782419301763\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a>\u00a0results of the Gynuity pilot project showed that 8 percent of their patients who received abortion medication sought follow-up care at a local urgent care clinic or emergency department.&#8221; Using the\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">339,640 (and growing) annual number and we estimate that <strong>27,000 women<\/strong> could report to an emergency department after a &#8220;self-managed&#8221; abortion <strong>every single year<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/downloads\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/UCM603000.pdf\">2018<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the FDA <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/ucm492705.htm\">updated<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> its adverse effects reports on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">legally<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dispensed abortion pills, revealing <\/span>24 deaths<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of women associated with the abortion pill since its approval. The report <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/women-die-abortion-pill-fda-generic\/\">documents<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that abortion pills have caused nearly 4,200 reported adverse effects, including 1,042 hospitalizations, nearly 600 instances of blood loss requiring transfusions, and other serious complications. But under <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/nda\/2016\/020687Orig1s020RemsR.pdf\">2016 changes<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, abortion pill manufacturer <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/secrecy-abortion-pill-maker-investors\/\">DANCO<\/a> <b><i>no longer has to <\/i><\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-men-legalize-expand-abortion\/\"><b><i>report<\/i><\/b><\/a><b><i> non-fatal adverse effects<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, so we have no way of knowing what the number really is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Editor&#8217;s Note, 4\/18\/21<\/strong>:\u00a0The FDA has received reports of serious adverse events in women who took Mifeprex. As of December 31, 2018, there were reports of 24 deaths of women associated with Mifeprex since the product was approved in September 2000, including two cases of ectopic pregnancy resulting in death; and several cases of severe systemic infection (also called sepsis), including some that were fatal.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The adverse events cannot with certainty be causally attributed to mifepristone because of concurrent use of other drugs, other medical or surgical treatments, co-existing medical conditions, and information gaps about patient health status and clinical management of the patient.
