The abortion industry has targeted minority women and their children since its founding — from the eugenic roots<\/a> of Planned Parenthood to the fact that 79 percent<\/a> of abortion facilities are located within walking distance of minority neighborhoods. Abortion continues to skyrocket among the Black community, with Black babies accounting for 38 percent of all abortions<\/a>\u00a0while Black Americans account for just 12 percent of the population.<\/p>\n

In Georgia, over 61 percent<\/a> of abortions are done on Black babies. In New York City, more Black babies are aborted<\/a> than are born. According to the Centers for Disease Control<\/a>, for every 1,000 Black babies born, 401 are aborted compared to 109 white babies aborted for every 1,000 white babies born.\u00a0These numbers are incomplete, however, because only around half of all states<\/a> actually report their abortion statistics. But it isn’t just Black babies that the abortion industry is killing; Black women are being injured and dying at the hands of the abortionists who claim to care about them.<\/p>\n

Tonya Reaves died from an abortion at Planned Parenthood.<\/p><\/div>\n

Tonya Reaves<\/a> died in 2012. According to her autopsy, her death was due to a botched abortion at Planned Parenthood. It was determined that if she had received medical help right away, rather than five hours after her injuries, she could have survived. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, Reaves’ cause of death was “due to hemorrhage resulting from cervical dilation and evacuation due to an intrauterine pregnancy.”<\/p>\n

Reaves bled to death because of an incomplete D&E abortion done at 16 weeks. There were pieces of the placenta still attached to her uterus, and a uterine perforation along with an “extensive” perforation of her broad uterine ligament with a possible severing of her left uterine artery.<\/p>\n

Lakisha Wilson<\/a>, 22, died from complications of an abortion at Preterm in Cleveland at five months gestation. She suffered significant blood loss, followed by shock. She then stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest. Preterm didn’t call 911 for 30 minutes<\/em> as Wilson suffered brain damage. Due to a malfunctioning elevator, emergency responders couldn’t get to the third floor in a timely manner. Then they were unable to intubate her because they couldn’t lay the gurney flat in the small elevator. Though they were able to resuscitate her, she ultimately didn’t survive.<\/p>\n

Cree Erwin died from a legal abortion at Planned Parenthood.<\/p><\/div>\n

In 2016, 24-year-old Cree Erwin-Sheppard<\/a>\u00a0died just days after undergoing an abortion at a Planned Parenthood in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Sheppard also visited an emergency room due to abortion complications including severe abdominal pain. The ER sent her home with pain medication and instructions to visit her own doctor. She died in her sleep, and her mother found her body.\u00a0Planned Parenthood refused to give Cree’s family her medical records.<\/p>\n

Cree’s brother Tyler spoke to Live Action about his sister’s death and the injustice of the abortion industry’s treatment of his sister and other women.<\/p>\n
