The alarming numbers were compiled from data published by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as well as the latest abortion data <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/fact-sheet\/induced-abortion-united-states\">published<\/a>\u00a0by the Guttmacher Institute, a\u00a0former \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-independent-is-guttmacher-from-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">special affiliate<\/a>\u201d and research arm of Planned Parenthood. The numbers reveal that heart disease, cancer, respiratory disease and diabetes (among others) &#8212; all tragic causes of death &#8212; do not individually outnumber reported deaths of preborn infants killed by a violent abortion in 2017*. In addition, had aborted preborn children (862,320) been counted as persons, they would have accounted for over 23 percent (23.4%) of\u00a0resident deaths in 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>U.S. Abortions: 862,320<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Guttmacher Institute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/factsheet\/fb_induced_abortion.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> a total of <strong>862,320<\/strong>\u00a0abortions in the U.S. in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/us-abortion-rate-lowest-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>CDC\u2019s most recent data (published November 2019) revealed a total of 623,471 abortions were reported to the agency from 48 reporting areas in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-dropped-50-percent-1980-cdc-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2016<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Guttmacher numbers are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/understanding-abortion-reporting-numbers\/\">more comprehensive<\/a>\u00a0because they gather their information directly from abortion providers; therefore, Live Action News will use the higher abortion number (<strong>862,320<\/strong>) for our analysis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Leading causes of death:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/databriefs\/db328_tables-508.pdf#4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a> comes from information <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/databriefs\/db328-h.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collected<\/a> by the National Center of Health Statistics (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NCHS<\/a>) which is compiled from death certificates filed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. It is then compiled into the National Vital Statistics System and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/nvss\/deaths.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a>\u00a0annually by the CDC. That <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/databriefs\/db328-h.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017 report<\/a>, which &#8220;presents final 2017 U.S. mortality data on deaths and death rates by demographic and medical characteristics,&#8221; found the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/databriefs\/db328-h.pdf\">2017<\/a>, a <strong>total<\/strong> of 2,813,503 resident deaths were registered in the United States\u201469,255 more deaths than in 2016&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>In 2017, the 10 leading causes of death (heart disease, cancer, unintentional injuries, chronic lower respiratory diseases, stroke, Alzheimer disease, diabetes, influenza and pneumonia, kidney disease, and suicide) remained the same as in 2016.<\/li>\n<li>Causes of death are ranked according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/nvsr\/nvsr68\/nvsr68_09-508.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">number of deaths<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The 10 leading causes accounted for 74% of all deaths in the United States in 2017.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_216898\" style=\"width: 804px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-216898\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-216898\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Leading-causes-of-death-2017.jpg\" alt=\"Image: Leading causes of death 2017 (SOURCE: NCHS, National Vital Statistics System, Mortality.) \" width=\"794\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Leading-causes-of-death-2017.jpg 794w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Leading-causes-of-death-2017-300x152.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Leading-causes-of-death-2017-768x390.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Leading-causes-of-death-2017-700x355.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Leading-causes-of-death-2017-500x254.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 794px) 100vw, 794px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-216898\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Leading causes of death 2017 (Source: NCHS, National Vital Statistics System, Mortality.)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Abortion made up 23% of resident deaths in 2017:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If the life of each preborn child reported to have been killed from a legal abortion had been counted, not only would it increase the total of deaths to 3,675,823, but abortions (862,320) would have accounted for <em>over<\/em> 23 percent (23.4%) of\u00a0resident deaths in 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>U.S. abortions outnumbered both heart disease and cancer deaths (2017):\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The top two leading causes of death in both 2016 and 2017 were heart disease and cancer.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2017, reported abortions (862,320) outnumbered the number one cause of death: heart disease (647,457) by 25 percent.*<\/li>\n<li>In 2017, reported abortions (862,320) outnumbered the number two cause of death: cancer (599,108) by 31 percent.*<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>U.S. abortions outnumbered the remaining eight (out of the\u00a0ten) leading causes of death <em>combined<\/em> (2017):\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In addition, the 2017 data reveals that reported abortions (862,320) outnumbered all other leading causes of death individually by large percentages. Even more shocking, the data revealed that reported abortions outnumbered the remaining (3-10) leading causes of death (834,966) <em>combined<\/em>. Today, Planned Parenthood\u00a0receives nearly\u00a0$1.7 million dollars a day from U.S. taxpayers, while PP ends the lives of 947 preborn babies every day, at a rate of 39 per hour, or one abortion every 91 seconds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0vSf0FGRGHI\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abortions by race\/ethnicity (2016):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-highest-percentage-black-women-2000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a> looked at abortions by race\/ethnicity\u00a0<em>versus<\/em> leading causes of deaths. That abortion data, released in November 2019 by the CDC and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-dropped-50-percent-1980-cdc-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a> analyzed by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-dropped-50-percent-1980-cdc-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Action News<\/a>, revealed that in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/68\/ss\/pdfs\/ss6811a1-H.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2016<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While Black women accounted for\u00a0<strong>38 percent of reported abortions<\/strong>, population estimates for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/other\/state-indicator\/distribution-by-raceethnicity\/?dataView=0&amp;currentTimeframe=2&amp;selectedDistributions=black&amp;sortModel=%7B%22colId%22:%22Location%22,%22sort%22:%22asc%22%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2016<\/a>\u00a0show that African Americans made up just 12 percent of the population. In addition, Black abortions (236,919 estimated) outnumbered the\u00a0<strong>top nine leading causes<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>of\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/dvs\/lcwk\/lcwk1_hr_2016.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>death<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(235,139)\u00a0for Black Americans combined.<\/li>\n<li>Hispanics made up 18% of the U.S. population, and accounted for\u00a0<strong>18.8<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>percent<\/strong>\u00a0of reported abortions.
