The alarming number comes from data compiled by the Guttmacher Institute &#8212; a former \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-independent-is-guttmacher-from-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">special affiliate<\/a>\u201d and research arm of Planned Parenthood &#8212; which publishes more\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/understanding-abortion-reporting-numbers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">comprehensive<\/a>\u00a0abortion statistics than the Centers for Disease Control. The actual number is higher than 7.7 million, however, because due to a lag in published abortion data, Guttmacher&#8217;s data only represents eight years of abortions (2010 to 2017) &#8212; the latest data published. Although over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/2000-20-million-abortions-declining\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">20 million abortions<\/a>\u00a0have taken place within the United States since 2000, abortions in the past decade have fallen dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>In the past decade (between\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/abortion_incidence_in_the_united_states_2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017),<\/a>\u00a0abortions declined nearly 22 percent (21.8%):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/abortion_incidence_in_the_united_states_2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>, Guttmacher recorded a total number of\u00a01,102,700 abortions, averaging\u00a03021 abortions per day.<\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>, Guttmacher recorded a total number of 862,320 abortions, averaging\u00a02,363 abortions per day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_216143\" style=\"width: 195px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-216143\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-216143\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Guttmacher-abortions-2000-to-2017-2.jpg\" alt=\"Image: Guttmacher abortions 2000 to 2017 \" width=\"185\" height=\"370\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Guttmacher-abortions-2000-to-2017-2.jpg 185w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Guttmacher-abortions-2000-to-2017-2-150x300.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 185px) 100vw, 185px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-216143\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Guttmacher abortions 2000 to 2017 sheet<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While abortions decrease, a\u00a0Brookings Institute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/research\/population-change-and-the-projected-change-in-congressional-representation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/research\/population-change-and-the-projected-change-in-congressional-representation\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1578121722470000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF940c5D-A6XRbj_tGbCsOMKR1X8g\">analysis<\/a> of\u00a0newly released\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2019\/popest-nation.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.census.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2019\/popest-nation.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1578121722470000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGCtMvvrNM13StmkpHzLL_x3_mNpQ\">Census\u00a0Bureau estimates<\/a>\u00a0found that &#8220;[b]etween 2010 and 2019, the nation sustained an absolute decline of 1.14 million\u00a0youth&#8230;. The nation\u2019s population growth from 2018 to 2019 grew by a mere 0.48%&#8230; the lowest annual growth rate since 1918&#8230;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Author\u00a0William H. Frey writes, &#8220;The 2010s was\u00a0a decade\u00a0of\u00a0fewer\u00a0births,\u00a0more\u00a0<wbr \/>deaths,\u00a0and uneven immigration&#8230;.\u00a0The decade\u2019s\u00a0patterns reveal\u00a0a nation with\u00a0unprecedented\u00a0growth\u00a0<wbr \/>stagnation, an absolute decline in\u00a0its\u00a0under-18 youth population&#8230;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Over the next decade,\u00a0two factors which contributed to the slow growth of the 2010s\u2014low fertility and\u00a0an\u00a0increase\u00a0in\u00a0deaths\u2014will continue,\u00a0as\u00a0both\u00a0are\u00a0<wbr \/>associated with an aging population.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abortion by region:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Northeast: dropped from\u00a0281,250 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/abortion_incidence_in_the_united_states_2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0224,310 in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Midwest: dropped from\u00a0159,360 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/abortion_incidence_in_the_united_states_2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0133,120 in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>South: dropped from\u00a0374,490 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/abortion_incidence_in_the_united_states_2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0295,290 in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>West: dropped from 287,570 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/abortion_incidence_in_the_united_states_2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0209,600 in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Abortion rate\/ratio:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Guttmacher figures, in the past decade:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The abortion rate (abortions per 1,000 women aged 15\u201344) dropped from 17.7 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/abortion_incidence_in_the_united_states_2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>\u00a0to 13.5 in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/us-abortion-rate-lowest-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>. As Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/us-abortion-rate-lowest-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a> documented, this represents\u00a0its lowest level since the Roe v. Wade decision legalized abortion in all 50 states in 1973.<\/li>\n<li>The abortion ratio (abortions per 100 pregnancies ending in an abortion or a live birth) also dropped from 21.7 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a> to 18.4 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a> (latest data available) reported abortions decreased nearly 22 percent (21.8%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_216129\" style=\"width: 434px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-216129\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-216129\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Guttmacher-abortions-2000-to-2017.jpg\" alt=\"Image: Guttmacher abortions 2000 to 2017\" width=\"424\" height=\"612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Guttmacher-abortions-2000-to-2017.jpg 424w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Guttmacher-abortions-2000-to-2017-208x300.jpg 208w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 424px) 100vw, 424px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-216129\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Guttmacher abortions 2000 to 2017<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Abortion providers:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/abortion_incidence_in_the_united_states_2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guttmacher<\/a>, &#8220;the number of providers peaked in 1981 at approximately\u00a02,900 facilities\u00a0and declined steadily to about 1,800 facilities in 2000.&#8221; In the past decade, the numbers continued to decline.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/abortion_incidence_in_the_united_states_2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2008<\/a>, Guttmacher reported 1,793 abortion providers and\u00a0851 abortion facilities.<\/li>\n<li>By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/abortion_incidence_in_the_united_states_2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2011<\/a>, the number fell to 1,720\u00a0abortion providers and\u00a0839\u00a0abortion facilities.<\/li>\n<li>By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>, the number decreased further to 1,587 abortion providers and\u00a0808 abortion facilities.<\/li>\n<li>In 2012, Guttmacher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/evidence-you-can-use\/later-abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a> that &#8220;only 34% of all facilities that provided abortion in the United States offered the procedure at 20 weeks\u2019 gestation; 16% did so at 24 weeks.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/media-pretends-100000-late-abortions-every-year-no-big-deal-theyre-wrong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guttmacher\u2019s latest<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/factsheet\/fb_induced_abortion.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>, \u201cSeventy-two percent of clinics offered abortions up to 12 weeks\u2019 gestation in 2014, 25% up to 20 weeks and 10% up to 24 weeks.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Abortions by Race\/Ethnicity:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_216138\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-216138\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-216138\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/CDC-abortion-2010-to-2016-by-race.jpg\" alt=\"Image: CDC abortion 2010 to 2016 by race\" width=\"580\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/CDC-abortion-2010-to-2016-by-race.jpg 580w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/CDC-abortion-2010-to-2016-by-race-300x103.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/CDC-abortion-2010-to-2016-by-race-500x172.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-216138\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CDC abortion 2010 to 2016 by race<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported a total of\u00a0765,651 abortions in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/preview\/mmwrhtml\/ss6208a1.htm?s_cid=ss6208a1_w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>\u00a0and 623,471 abortions in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-highest-percentage-black-women-2000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2016<\/a>. While abortions overall were in decline, CDC data between 2010\u00a0(28 reporting areas) and 2016 &#8211; the latest data available (32 reporting areas) &#8211; reveals that Black women <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-highest-percentage-black-women-2000\/\">still account for the largest percentage of abortions<\/a>, and those percentages are on the increase.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>White<\/strong>: 36.8% in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/preview\/mmwrhtml\/ss6208a1.htm?s_cid=ss6208a1_w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>\u00a0<em>dropping to 35%<\/em> in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-highest-percentage-black-women-2000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2016<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Black<\/strong>: 35.7% in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/preview\/mmwrhtml\/ss6208a1.htm?s_cid=ss6208a1_w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>\u00a0<strong>increasing to 38%<\/strong>\u00a0in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-highest-percentage-black-women-2000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2016<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hispanic<\/strong>: 21% in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/preview\/mmwrhtml\/ss6208a1.htm?s_cid=ss6208a1_w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>\u00a0<em>dropping to 18.8%<\/em>\u00a0in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-highest-percentage-black-women-2000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2016<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We estimate that between\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/preview\/mmwrhtml\/ss6208a1.htm?s_cid=ss6208a1_w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/preview\/mmwrhtml\/ss6208a1.htm?s_cid%3Dss6208a1_w&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1578075160688000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFUOw7toml2KUSwZX-m4HgKtpeKZQ\">2010<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-highest-percentage-black-women-2000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortions-highest-percentage-black-women-2000\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1578075160688000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHojYBqtVpc5XTVMytjlK6NYmxgcg\">2016<\/a>\u00a0over 1.7 million Black babies lost their lives from abortion.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_216187\" style=\"width: 445px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-216187\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-216187\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Black-abortions-past-decade-2010-to-2016-CDC.jpg\" alt=\"Image: Black abortions past decade 2010 to 2016 CDC\" width=\"435\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Black-abortions-past-decade-2010-to-2016-CDC.jpg 435w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Black-abortions-past-decade-2010-to-2016-CDC-300x203.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-216187\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Black abortions past decade 2010 to 2016 CDC<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Abortion by pill:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/files\/6413\/9611\/5812\/fact_Mife_0910.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Planned Parenthood<\/a>, between 2000 and 2010, nearly 1.4 million U.S. women had used Mifeprex &#8211; the abortion pill &#8211; to end their pregnancies. PP claims to have provided\u00a0550,700 of those pills to women.<\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/abortion_incidence_in_the_united_states_2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2011<\/a>,\u00a0use of the abortion pill (dubbed &#8220;medication abortion&#8221;) accounted for 23% of all nonhospital abortions.<\/li>\n<li>By\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-medication-abortion-nearly-40-percent-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>, chemical abortion accounted for nearly 40 percent (39%) of all reported abortions (339,640 medication abortions out of 862,320 total\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/us-abortion-rate-lowest-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>By the end of 2018, 3.7 million women used mifepristone in the U.S. for the medical termination of pregnancy. The FDA has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/media\/112118\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">identified<\/a> approximately 4,200 instances of adverse events associated with Mifeprex and at least 24\u00a0deaths. (<em>Editor&#8217;s Note, 4\/18\/21: The FDA has received reports of serious adverse events in women who took Mifeprex. As of December 31, 2018, there were reports of 24 deaths of women associated with Mifeprex since the product was approved in September 2000, including two cases of ectopic pregnancy resulting in death; and several cases of severe systemic infection (also called sepsis), including some that were fatal.\u00a0<\/em><em>The adverse events cannot with certainty be causally attributed to mifepristone because of concurrent use of other drugs, other medical or surgical treatments, co-existing medical conditions, and information gaps about patient health status and clinical management of the patient. A summary report of adverse events that reflects data through December 31, 2018 is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/postmarket-drug-safety-information-patients-and-providers\/questions-and-answers-mifeprex\">here<\/a>.<\/em>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Self-Abortion:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A study <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajog.org\/article\/S0002-9378%2810%2901008-2\/abstract\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> in 2011 claimed that only a small percentage of women had reported attempting a self-abortion. &#8220;Only 1.2% of women obtaining abortions report having ever used misoprostol on their own to &#8216;bring\u00a0back&#8217; their period or end a pregnancy. A similarly small proportion of women, 1.4%, reported using other substances, such as vitamin C or herbs, to attempt to end a pregnancy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But today, due to<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/six-ways-dangerous-diy-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> heavy promotion<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-men-legalize-expand-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion insiders<\/a>, dangerous unreported self-managed abortions &#8212; which occur outside of FDA safety protocols &#8212; may be increasing, though there is no way to know for sure.\u00a0In <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-medication-abortion-nearly-40-percent-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>, Guttmacher appeared to be pointing to an alleged increase in \u201cself-managed\u201d or \u201cillegal\u201d abortions to account for the decline in the total number of abortions for 2017. Yet\u00a0further down in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">document,<\/a>\u00a0Guttmacher states, \u201cit is nonetheless unlikely that even a substantial increase in self-managed abortion can account for the majority of the decline in abortion incidence nationally during the study period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Live Action News has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/lawmakers-fda-illegal-abortion-pill-online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a>\u00a0documented the sale of illegal abortion pills by groups like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/lawmakers-fda-illegal-abortion-pill-online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aid Access<\/a>, who are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/defies-fda-dispense-abortion-pills-illegally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defying<\/a>\u00a0the FDA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/inspections-compliance-enforcement-and-criminal-investigations\/warning-letters\/aidaccessorg-575658-03082019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warnings<\/a>\u00a0to \u201cimmediately cease\u201d dispensation of the drugs. The group\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/report_pdf\/abortion-incidence-service-availability-us-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a>\u00a0filled 2,500 prescriptions in 2018, according to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aidaccess.org\/en\/media\/inline\/2019\/5\/16\/19_05_16_gomperts_letter_and_exhibit_a.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a>\u00a0from Aid Access to the FDA. However, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/assets.documentcloud.org\/documents\/6390359\/Access-Aid-Verified-Complaint-With-Exhibits.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0later filed by the group noted it had actually shipped\u00a0<em>7,131 abortion pills<\/em>\u00a0to women in the U.S. between March 30, 2018, and August 27, 2019. The report notes, &#8220;While some pregnancy centers receive public monies through various federal and state programs and funding streams, at least 90 percent of total funding for pregnancy centers is raised locally at the community level.
