The answer may surprise you."},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Live Action News has uncovered a document which indicates that the Population Council, a non-profit <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/population-council-founded-eugenicists-promoting-abortion-turns-65\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">founded<\/a> by eugenicists (which brought the abortion pill to the U.S. and then\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-srv\/aponline\/20000928\/aponline115709_000.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">created<\/a>\u00a0manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/secrecy-abortion-pill-maker-investors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DANCO Laboratories<\/a> to market the drug known as mifepristone) was originally set up to receive royalties from sales of the abortion pill.<\/p>\n<p>The information was found within the organization&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/pdf.guidestar.org\/PDF_Images\/1998\/131\/687\/1998-131687001-1-9.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1998 990<\/a>\u00a0and is seen in the image below. A review of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.popcouncil.org\/research\/safe-abortion-and-postabortion-care\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Population Council<\/a> annual reports reveal that, despite the group&#8217;s creation of an abortion pill company, millions of taxpayer dollars have been funneled to the Population Council since the late 1990&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_215952\" style=\"width: 626px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-215952\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-215952\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Population-Council-RU486-Royalty.jpg\" alt=\"Image: Population Council RU486 abortion pill Royalty 1998\" width=\"616\" height=\"504\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Population-Council-RU486-Royalty.jpg 616w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Population-Council-RU486-Royalty-300x245.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Population-Council-RU486-Royalty-500x409.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-215952\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Population Council RU486 abortion pill Royalty 1998<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/connection-abortion-pill-zyklonb-gas-holocaust\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a> documented:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1993<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; President Bill Clinton\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?37335-1\/abortion-rights-medical-research-orders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed<\/a>\u00a0an executive order directing the FDA to expedite marketing of the abortion pill.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1994<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; With <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.hhs.gov\/news\/press\/1994pres\/940516.txt\">encouragement<\/a>\u00a0of the Clinton administration, French manufacturer Roussel-Uclaf assigned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/appletter\/2000\/20687appltr.pdf\">U.S. rights<\/a>\u00a0of marketing and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/downloads\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/ucm086149.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">distribution<\/a>\u00a0of RU-486 over to the Population Council.<\/li>\n<li>The right to distribute the abortion pill was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2000\/09\/30\/us\/abortion-pill-distributor-energized-by-new-mission.html\">later<\/a>\u00a0handed over to DANCO Laboratories, a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/caselaw.findlaw.com\/ny-supreme-court-appellate-division\/1151610.html\">sub-licensee<\/a>\u00a0of the Population Council.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1996<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; The David and Lucile Packard Foundation\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/timeline.packard.org\/#page20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seeded<\/a>\u00a0DANCO\u00a0with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.packard.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Packard_MIR_2015OCT51.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$14.2 million<\/a>. Packard would go on to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gynuity.org\/about\/partners\/\">fund<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-pushing-home-abortions\/\">\u00a0Gynuity Health Projects<b>,<\/b><\/a>\u00a0which is currently conducting abortion pill\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/clinicaltrials.gov\/archive\/NCT00994734\/2009_10_13\">clinical trials<\/a>\u00a0as well as a number of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-funded-abortion-pill-investor-buffett-foundation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">studies<\/a>,\u00a0to expand the drug further.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1YuYvyIGWlM\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A substantial amount of the Population Council&#8217;s current and past funding appears to be from the U.S. government as well as royalty revenue. A review of the organization&#8217;s annual reports reveal the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.popcouncil.org\/uploads\/pdfs\/Annual_Report_June_28_2019_FINAL_-_Web.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2018<\/a>: $39.5 million from taxpayers &#8211; $22.7 million royalties (<a href=\"https:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/nonprofits\/display_audit\/1086520181\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Note<\/a>: A milestone payment of $20 million tied to a product licensing agreement was recognized as revenue in 2018.)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.popcouncil.org\/uploads\/pdfs\/AR2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017<\/a>: $37.7 million from taxpayers &#8211; $11 million royalties<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.popcouncil.org\/uploads\/pdfs\/AR2016.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2016<\/a>: $38.6 million from taxpayers &#8211; $4 million royalties<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.popcouncil.org\/uploads\/pdfs\/AR2015.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2015<\/a>: $35.6 million from taxpayers &#8211; $2.8 million royalties<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.popcouncil.org\/uploads\/pdfs\/AR2014.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2014<\/a>: $37.8 million from taxpayers \u00a0&#8211; $2.4 million royalties<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.popcouncil.org\/uploads\/pdfs\/AR2013.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2013<\/a>: $37.1 million from taxpayers &#8211;\u00a0 $2.2 million royalties<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.popcouncil.org\/uploads\/pdfs\/ar12\/AR2012.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2012<\/a>: $34.8 million from taxpayers &#8211; $6.5 million\u00a0royalties<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20140328231214\/http:\/\/www.popcouncil.org\/uploads\/pdfs\/ar11\/AR2011.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2011<\/a>:\u00a0$40.8 million from taxpayers &#8211; $8 million\u00a0royalties<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.popcouncil.org\/uploads\/pdfs\/ar10\/AR2010.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2010<\/a>: $27 million\u00a0from taxpayers &#8211; $11.1\u00a0in\u00a0royalties (Note: In\u00a0February 2010, the Council signed a licensing agreement with Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc., granting them the North American rights to the contraceptive vaginal ring. The company even persuaded the Food and Drug Administration to\u00a0<b>keep secret the location of the factory where the abortion drug will be produced<\/b>\u2026. The FDA acceded to Danco\u2019s request that the name of its manufacturer be kept secret \u2014 and even shielded the names of the FDA researchers who had overseen the pill\u2019s approval.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>NY Daily News (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/os-xpm-2000-11-26-0011250026-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2000<\/a>):\u00a0\u201cThe pill&#8217;s 11-year journey to the United States included a cloak-and-dagger scheme to hide the identities of participants from anti-abortion activists, allegations of fraud, a dozen lawsuits, and a price tag of at least $50 million&#8230;. Citing fear&#8230; Danco refuses to release the names of its executives and investors. The company even <strong>persuaded<\/strong> the Food and Drug Administration to <strong>keep secret the location of the factory<\/strong> where the abortion drug will be produced&#8230;. In a strange twist, <strong>the FDA acceded to Danco&#8217;s request<\/strong> that the name of its manufacturer be kept secret &#8212; and <strong>even shielded the names of the FDA researchers<\/strong> who had overseen the pill&#8217;s approval.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>NY Times (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1999\/07\/11\/magazine\/the-little-white-bombshell.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1999<\/a>): &#8220;&#8216;I can&#8217;t think of any precedent for that kind of\u00a0<span class=\"il\">secrecy<\/span>,&#8221; says Lars Noah, a law professor at the University of Florida whose expertise is food and drug law. &#8221;I&#8217;ve never heard of a situation where, with the blessing of the F.D.A., you could keep the manufacturer of a drug secret. Then again, it&#8217;s hard to think of any other pharmaceutical with the potential political impact this one has.'&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Today, the abortion pill accounts for <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-medication-abortion-nearly-40-percent-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">40 percent<\/a> of reported abortions in the United states. According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/media\/112118\/download\">FDA<\/a>, \u201cThe estimated number of women who have used mifepristone in the U.S. for the medical termination of pregnancy through the end of December 2018 is approximately 3.7 million women&#8230;\u201d But, apparently that is not enough because, as Live Action News has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/six-ways-dangerous-diy-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">documented<\/a> multiple times, the abortion industry is pushing for the abortion pill to be moved out of clinics and hospitals into schools and over pharmacy counters, as so-called self-managed abortions.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/downloads\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/UCM603000.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2018<\/a>, the FDA\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/ucm492705.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">updated<\/a>\u00a0its adverse effects reports on just\u00a0<em>legally<\/em>\u00a0dispensed abortion pills, revealing\u00a0<strong>24 deaths<\/strong>\u00a0of women associated with the abortion pill since its approval. The report\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/women-die-abortion-pill-fda-generic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">documents<\/a>\u00a0that abortion pills have caused nearly\u00a04,200 reported adverse effects, including 1,042 hospitalizations, nearly\u00a0600 instances of blood loss requiring transfusions and other serious complications. As of December 31, 2018, there were reports of 24 deaths of women associated with Mifeprex since the product was approved in September 2000, including two cases of ectopic pregnancy resulting in death; and several cases of severe systemic infection (also called sepsis), including some that were fatal.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The adverse events cannot with certainty be causally attributed to mifepristone because of concurrent use of other drugs, other medical or surgical treatments, co-existing medical conditions, and information gaps about patient health status and clinical management of the patient.
