UPDATE, 12\/1\/24<\/strong>:\u00a0The Jesus Child Catholic Community<\/a> in Petropolis (Brazil) is in need of support and has launched The Magi Donor Program<\/a> in an attempt to cover the daily expenses of Ant\u00f4nio Tavares de Mello’s (now 48) adopted children, youth, and adults with special needs. <\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span>This recurring donation program will make it easier for people from all over\u00a0 the world to contribute with monthly online donations starting at R$30 per month,” says the group, which attended the March for Life in the U.S. in 2024 and spoke in favor of the pro-life cause at the United Nations. The group plans to use the funds raised to expand the space and cover costs for daily needs such as “home ICU, physiotherapists,\u00a0 psychologists, dentists, pediatricians), food, medicine, diapers and other\u00a0 local maintenance expenses.” Donors will receive regular updates in the form of a newsletter and videos.<\/p>\n

“The needs are many and the current expenses exceed R$200,000.00 (Real, the\u00a0 Brazilian currency or $40,000.00 forty thousand US dollars approx.) per month,” the group notes.<\/p>\n

12\/15\/19<\/strong>: Children with disabilities are targeted for abortion in countries around the world, including first world countries like the United States where the resources and technology exist to help them. In Brazil, one man is fighting back against the stigma and discrimination that surround individuals with disabilities by building communities for them to live in, and by adopting disabled children, many of whom are survivors of botched abortions.<\/p>\n

Tonio Tavares De Mello never thought his life would be what it is today, but he says he is happy to live the life God has given him. In 1990, after learning of the high rate of neglect and abandonment of disabled children, De Mello began the process of saving the most vulnerable among us. He built a Catholic community called Jesus Menino (Baby Jesus) in order to care for them. Over the years, his calling has grown and he has adopted 48 disabled children and opened three communities in Brazil and Portugal where 117 disabled adults live and learn.<\/p>\n

“I do this work because it is a special calling from God,” he explained. “He has a natural gift for life and He counts on my ‘Yes’ each day, to make life happen. I’m giving my life for many lives.”<\/p>\n
