(Pregnancy Help News<\/a>)\u00a0Kristi wasn\u2019t the typical woman with an unplanned pregnancy coming into a pregnancy medical resource center.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old held an advanced degree and traveled the world as a career-minded woman. When she came to True Care Women\u2019s Resource Center in Casper, Wyoming earlier this year, she wasn\u2019t convinced she was pregnant.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had cancer twice and doctors told me I couldn\u2019t have children,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

A wine consultant with a medical background, she was out of the country when she noticed a \u201cpooch\u201d to her belly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had no other signs or symptoms, but I took a pregnancy test, and \u2026 surprise!\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She returned home to Wyoming and learned about True Care from a friend.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough I\u2019d taken the home test, I wanted to have a medical professional tell me for sure,\u201d she recalled. \u201cSomehow, despite what I\u2019d been told after having cancer, I was pregnant. I was scared to death.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abortion was a strong consideration for Kristi. Until she saw the ultrasound.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was more than five months along, and when I had the ultrasound, it was a \u201cDear God, what do I do?\u2019 moment,\u201d she said. \u201cTwo sets of hands waved at me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pregnant with twins, Kristi found help from True Care staff and volunteers, and she decided to carry to term.<\/p>\n

Kristi signed up for the center\u2019s Resource Program and the program\u2019s coordinator, Cheryl Flores, helped her connect with resources she needed and qualified for. The center\u2019s parenting program, called Baby & Me, educated her on pregnancy, fetal development, breastfeeding, birth and delivery, and other facets of her new journey.<\/p>\n

Kristi also found other things she needed: encouragement, compassion, acceptance, and love.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was concerned about the health of the babies, me having had cancer,\u201d she said. \u201cThe ladies cared about the babies and me. They are just kind people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her twin boys were born healthy on June 26 of this year. Because one was breech, she underwent a C-Section. Mom and babies continue to be well and healthy.<\/p>\n

As her first Christmas as a mother approaches, Kristi embraces her new role. Her sons are now teething and trying to crawl. She sees distinctions between them as well as similarities.<\/p>\n

\u201cPatrick is more happy and content; Thomas is more vocal and chatters a lot,\u201d she said. \u201cPatrick is almost crawling, and Thomas just wants up. He may walk and run without crawling!\u201d<\/p>\n

Some of their mannerisms are similar, Kristi said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey suck on the same hand and thumb,\u201d she said. \u201cThey do many things alike.\u201d<\/p>\n

The twins were also close in size and weight when they were born, she added.<\/p>\n

As the end of 2019 nears, Kristi reflected on the changes in her life.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy life turned upside down,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t travel now, but I consider myself fortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI lived a wonderful life (before the babies) and did many things other people can\u2019t do,\u00a0she continued. \u201cAlthough I didn\u2019t have a lot of support, I do have great friends who help.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, I had such strong support from True Care,\u201d said Kristi. \u201cMy Baby & Me advocate is such a wonderful person \u2013 she even came to the hospital the day after the boys were born. Today, I have two beautiful babies.\u201d<\/p>\n

After sharing a \u201cfriends-giving\u201d with a few good friends, including those who were with her during the birth of her sons, Kristi has no big plans for Christmas.<\/p>\n

In years past, she has traveled or volunteered at the oncology center. This holiday she plans to stay home with her sons. She considers the boys too young to understand about Christmas gifts yet, however, she knows friends will step in, already having done so during her journey into motherhood.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am blessed \u2013 people have given me everything,\u201d she said. \u201cI plan to stay home and cook.\u201d<\/p>\n
