Americans United for Life recently conducted a poll<\/span><\/a> which showed that most Americans think abortion facilities should be held to the same health standards as hospitals. From October 25-28, this poll surveyed 1,326 American adults nationally. Those polled identified as 43% pro-choice, 36% pro-life and 24% \u201cneither.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Those surveyed were asked to rate how strongly they agreed or disagreed with these statements: \u201cAbortion doctors should be held to the same medical standards as any ordinary physician\u201d and \u201cAbortion facilities should be held to the same medical standards as any ordinary hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

62% strongly agreed with the first statement and 58% strongly agreed with the second. Only 7% disagreed with the first statement and 11% with the second.<\/p>\n

The respondents were also asked to what extent they agreed or disagreed with the statement, “Regardless of my personal views on abortion, I believe physicians performing abortions should be able to transfer women who experience complications directly to the emergency room as necessary.”<\/p>\n

78.2% agreed with this statement and 4.8% disagreed.<\/p>\n

Finally, those polled were asked, \u201cTo what extent would you support or oppose states being able to pass safeguards that ensure abortion facilities are in compliance with basic medical practices and sanitation?\u201d<\/p>\n

73.8% said they would support laws implementing safeguards and 11.9% said they would not.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis survey highlights that Americans, regardless of their personal views on abortion, stand with us in our fight to protect a woman\u2019s right to health care and emergency medical attention,\u201d said Catherine Glenn Foster, AUL’s President and CEO, according to AUL’s website. \u201cWomen deserve the same standard of care no matter who their doctor is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite public opinion, many states, such as Maine<\/a> and Vermont<\/a>, are passing legislation that lessen the regulations on abortion facilities, endangering women and increasing the risks involved in an abortion. One Planned Parenthood in Missouri<\/a> is currently operating without a license and is known to send patients frequently to the hospital due to abortion-related injuries.<\/p>\n

When commenting on the Supreme Court case June Medical Services LLC v. Gee<\/a><\/em>, regarding Louisiana\u2019s law requiring abortionists to have admitting privileges at a local hospital, March for Life president Jeanne Mancini\u00a0said<\/a>, \u201cAbortion activists are more than willing to lower the bar on women\u2019s health in order to expand abortion, but stricter clinic regulations are in the best interest of women.”<\/p>\n

Those who claim to be improving women\u2019s health by increasing access to abortion are actually so focused on pushing pro-abortion legislation that they are putting women in danger.<\/p>\n
