Wolf shot down the newly-minted bill just one day after it was passed by the Senate, claiming it was &#8220;unnecessary legislation,&#8221; and an attack on abortion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legis.state.pa.us\/cfdocs\/billinfo\/billinfo.cfm?syear=2019&amp;sInd=0&amp;body=H&amp;type=B&amp;bn=321\">House Bill 321<\/a>, also known as The Down Syndrome Protection Act, cleared the General Assembly November 20 with a Senate vote of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdjonline.com\/neighbor_newspapers\/extra\/news\/pa-senate-passes-down-syndrome-protection-act\/article_e4f6efc9-d2f9-5b47-aed8-1522cf144b8a.html\">27-22<\/a>. The bill would amend the current Pennsylvania law to prohibit abortion after a Down syndrome diagnosis, except in cases of rape and incest. The state <a href=\"https:\/\/wcti12.com\/news\/nation-world\/governor-vetoes-bill-outlawing-abortions-over-down-syndrome-11-22-2019\">currently allows<\/a> abortions up to 24 weeks for any reason except for sex selection.<\/p>\n<p>Wolf took to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovernorTomWolf?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed&amp;ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwcti12.com%2Fnews%2Fnation-world%2Fgovernor-vetoes-bill-outlawing-abortions-over-down-syndrome-11-22-2019\">Twitter<\/a> to publicly veto the bill, which he said, &#8220;interferes with the rights of women to make their own\u00a0health care\u00a0decisions.\u201d What Wolf apparently fails to realize is that abortion because of a Down syndrome diagnosis has nothing to do with women&#8217;s healthcare, and everything to do with the perceived inconvenience that comes with raising a child with Down syndrome. As Michael Greer, president of the Pennsylvania Family Institute said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sba-list.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/sba-list-slams-pa-governors-veto-of-discrimination-abortion-ban?fbclid=IwAR1dDHpeCGOO_QFSZkH19-CeTDYh8YCd3Vcz62LxqG6ftA_IxsXwVzNCGLA\">statement<\/a>, \u201cGovernor Tom Wolf believes it\u2019s just fine to kill babies in the womb solely because of a prenatal diagnosis of a disability. That is eugenics. Anthony List blasted the governor&#8217;s veto on Friday. \u201cShame on Governor Wolf for blocking this compassionate, popular bill. He has signed a death sentence for countless unborn babies targeted for abortion merely because they may have Down syndrome,\u201d said SAB President Marjorie Dannenfelser in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sba-list.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/sba-list-slams-pa-governors-veto-of-discrimination-abortion-ban?fbclid=IwAR1dDHpeCGOO_QFSZkH19-CeTDYh8YCd3Vcz62LxqG6ftA_IxsXwVzNCGLA\">press release<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cThe Pennsylvania legislature\u2019s bold action is part of growing nationwide momentum to put an end to lethal discrimination \u2013 but Governor Wolf is an abortion extremist who consistently obstructs the will of Pennsylvanians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The bill was in response to the high percentage of Down syndrome children who are killed in the womb. Roughly <a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/new-study-abortion-after-prenatal-diagnosis-of-down-syndrome-reduces-down-syndrome-community-by-thirty-percent\/\">67 percent<\/a> of preborn children in the United States are aborted due to a diagnosis of Down syndrome, a percentage that&#8217;s much higher elsewhere in the world.\u00a0As bill supporter Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill said in speaking to people with Down syndrome, \u201cWe believe you have the right to be born and the right to enjoy a full and productive life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Gov.
