(LifeSiteNews<\/a>) \u2013 While many in the abortion debate reserve their most heated reactions for the use of graphic abortion images, those images offer an accurate depiction of abortion\u2019s aftermath, according to former abortionist Dr. Kathi Aultman.<\/p>\n

Aultman, a retired OB\/GYN who is now with the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute, has testified<\/a> before Congress<\/a> on behalf of pro-life laws, and joined LifeSiteNews\u2019 Jonathon Van Maren for an interview on\u00a0this week\u2019s episode<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0The Van Maren Show<\/em>, where they discussed her experiences and her journey toward the pro-life side.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe one thing people will say, especially when they see abortion, victim photography or imagery that shows how gory and horrible abortion actually is, they\u2019ll say that there’s no way that it actually looks like that,\u201d Van Maren said, relaying his own experiences in pro-life outreach. \u201cWhat did you see in your work as an abortion provider?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s exactly what the pictures show. I mean, how can it be otherwise?\u201d Aultman confirmed. \u201cYou’re tearing this little body limb from limb, so you get arms and legs and faces. And it’s exactly what the pictures portray that you have been out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were in a hearing once and I had given a fairly graphic description, very graphic, graphic but honest description,\u201d she recalled. \u201cAnd one of the members got upset that \u2018we had no decorum, and how could I be so graphic?\u2019 And the chairman of the committee said, \u2018well, gosh, if we can’t even discuss it,\u00a0 should we be doing them?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRight. If it’s too hard to look at, why are we allowing this to happen?\u201d Van Maren responded.<\/p>\n

There is disagreement within the pro-life movement on the use of graphic abortion photos as visual aids. Some argue that displaying them is necessary to force people to face the harsh reality of abortion, while others feel their use in certain circumstances can needlessly alienate people who would be reachable through argument and more benign\u00a0ultrasound imagery<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A 2016 study commissioned by the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform\u00a0found that<\/a>\u00a0viewing graphic abortion images resulted in a 17 percent\u00a0gain toward a pro-life worldview.<\/p>\n
