A man in northern India who was digging a grave for his daughter who died at birth discovered<\/a> a newborn baby girl who had been buried alive.<\/p>\n

Hitesh Sirohi was digging when he hit a clay pot, local police told AFP. When he saw the baby wrapped in cloth inside, and heard her cries, he immediately took her out and called for help.<\/p>\n

“At one point I thought that my daughter had come alive,” he told AFP. “But the voice was actually coming from the pot.”<\/p>\n

The baby girl was taken to the hospital and is receiving care paid for by local politician Rajesh Kumar Misra, who says he will raise the baby girl along with his wife. However, the police have said<\/a> the baby girl will go to a government-run adoption home once she is discharged.<\/p>\n
