However, pro-life student group Students for Life of America (SFLA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.studentsforlife.org\/2019\/09\/13\/breaking-california-advances-egregious-campus-abortion-mandate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">notes<\/a>\u00a0that student fees will also be used to fund on-campus abortions, since those fees underwrite the costs of campus healthcare centers. SFLA also pointed out how the\u00a0conscience rights of students and healthcare workers will be violated if\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201920200SB24\">forced to participate<\/a> with abortions. &#8220;This law <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2018\/02\/09\/california-moves-force-public-universities-administer-abortion-pills\/\">includes funds<\/a> that can go to Planned Parenthood for \u2018consulting\u2019 and new funds for <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.callifeadvocates.org\/?p=400\">\u2018security\u2019<\/a>, allowing the nation\u2019s number one abortion vendor to sit back and cash checks, enjoying the chaos of abortions taking place at schools without any of the risk,\u201d said SFLA president Kristin Hawkins.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/M5xohmM60TM\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201920200SB24\">bill<\/a>\u00a0requires student health care services centers at the state&#8217;s 34 University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) campuses to offer medication abortion on and after January 1, 2023.\u00a0According to a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dof.ca.gov\/legislative_analyses\/LIS_PDF\/19\/SB-24-20190809062042PM-SB00024.pdf\">Department of Financial Bill Analysis<\/a>, SB 24 \u201cestablishes the College Student Health Center Sexual and Reproductive Health Preparation Fund under the administration of the Commission on the Status of Women and Girls.&#8221; It requires the Commission, whose\u00a0current chair\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/women.ca.gov\/about-us\/commissioners\/wilkins-bio\/\">Alisha Wilkins<\/a>\u00a0previously worked for Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest in Riverside, &#8220;to provide grants of $200,000 to each student health center, and a grant of $200,000 to both the UC and CSU system to become prepared to offer abortion by medication techniques and develop associated back-up medical supports.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dTsUsy30Q8A\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The abortion pill was brought into the U.S. by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/population-council-founded-eugenicists-promoting-abortion-turns-65\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Population Council<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/population-council-founded-eugenicists-promoting-abortion-turns-65\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eugenics organization<\/a> which sought out investors to set up\u00a0a highly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/secrecy-abortion-pill-maker-investors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">secretive company<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 DANCO Laboratories \u2014 to manufacture the drug.<\/p>\n<p>Investors included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Packard Foundation, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.packard.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Packard_MIR_2015OCT51.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">originally invested<\/a> in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/timeline.packard.org\/#page20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1996<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/whos-who-abortion-pill-reversal-study\/\">help<\/a>\u00a0keep\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/secrecy-abortion-pill-maker-investors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DANCO<\/a>\u00a0afloat when\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/secrecy-abortion-pill-maker-investors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it<\/a>\u00a0\u201cran short on funds\u201d<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Buffett Foundation, identified by the Washington Post in 2000, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/politics\/2000\/10\/12\/drugs-us-marketer-remains-elusive\/8b7b732b-0f23-4c96-9051-714cd3d9f6f8\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">writing<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cThe Buffett Foundation\u2026 made at least $2 million in interest-free loans to the Population Council&#8230;\u00a0according to tax documents filed in 1995. In 2017, the pro-abortion Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH)\u00a0&#8212; a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ansirh.org\/about\/ansirhs-mission\">research group<\/a> at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/paying-millions-abortion-training-taxpayers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health<\/a>, which trains abortion providers &#8212;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/justcarecalifornia.org\/wp-content\/files\/sb320barriers12-20-17.pdf\">estimated<\/a>, &#8220;Approximately 23% of CSU students and 12% of UC students are enrolled in Medi-Cal.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_192513\" style=\"width: 330px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-192513\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-192513\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Medi-Cal-FFS-abortion-expenditures-in-California-1989-to-2014.jpg\" alt=\"Image: Medi-Cal FFS abortion expenditures in California 1989 to 2014\" width=\"320\" height=\"660\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-192513\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Medi-Cal FFS abortion expenditures in California 1989 to 2014<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Students across UC and CSU campuses obtain 1,038 abortions each month,&#8221; ANSIRH <a href=\"http:\/\/justcarecalifornia.org\/wp-content\/files\/sb320barriers12-20-17.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0adding,\u00a0&#8220;[W]e estimate there would be between 322-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?time_continue=2&amp;v=cKyM9MvEeoA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">519<\/a> medication abortions occurring across UC and CSU campuses every month.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>SFLA\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.studentsforlife.org\/2019\/09\/13\/breaking-california-advances-egregious-campus-abortion-mandate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claims<\/a>\u00a0there was no need for the law because abortion facilities are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?time_continue=8&amp;v=7KtqxldmXqY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">less than 6 miles<\/a> from every California public university and college campus. The group also claims there are no safeguards are in place to protect women who may be dosed with the drugs without their consent. Live Action News\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/benefits-abortion-pills-college-campuses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a> documented\u00a0how many of those behind the push for these dangerous pills to be readily available on campus are also pushing for FDA safety requirements to be lifted. To date, at least 24 women have died from the abortion pill and literally thousands have been hospitalized with serious complications.<\/p>\n<h6>Editor&#8217;s Note: FDA has received reports of serious adverse events in women who took mifepristone. As of June 30, 2021, there were reports of 26 deaths of women associated with mifepristone since the product was approved in September 2000, including two cases of ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy located outside the womb, such as in the fallopian tubes) resulting in death; and several cases of severe systemic infection (also called sepsis), including some that were fatal. The adverse events cannot with certainty be causally attributed to mifepristone because of concurrent use of other drugs, other medical or surgical treatments, co-existing medical conditions, and information gaps about patient health status and clinical management of the patient.
