The group actually promotes abortion and opposes pro-life legislation. So when <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-unbiased-fact-checkers-anything-but\/\">Facebook&#8217;s &#8220;fact checker&#8221;<\/a> &#8212; the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ifcncodeofprinciples.poynter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN)<\/a>,\u201d a unit of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.poynter.org\/ifcn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poynter Institute<\/a>, selected Health Feedback to &#8220;fact check&#8221; the claim that abortion is never medically necessary &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-fact-check-live-action\/\"><em>using two abortionists<\/em><\/a> &#8212; it was surprising that the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/72-78vidh14\">supposedly<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/ifcncodeofprinciples.poynter.org\/signatories\">&#8220;non-partisan&#8221;<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ifcncodeofprinciples.poynter.org\/know-more\/the-commitments-of-the-code-of-principles\">&#8220;fair&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0fact checker\u00a0would choose to <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190904011735\/https:\/\/healthfeedback.org\/claimreview\/lila-rose-claim-that-abortion-is-never-medically-necessary-is-inaccurate-it-is-necessary-in-certain-cases-to-preserve-mothers-life-young-america-foundation\/\">update<\/a> its post not with balanced information but with a &#8220;clarification&#8221; from the pro-abortion ACOG on <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190904011735\/https:\/\/healthfeedback.org\/claimreview\/lila-rose-claim-that-abortion-is-never-medically-necessary-is-inaccurate-it-is-necessary-in-certain-cases-to-preserve-mothers-life-young-america-foundation\/\">September 3, 2019<\/a> &#8212; days after the original August 30th fact check. Health Feedback has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-fact-check-live-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revised<\/a> its fact check\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-unbiased-fact-checkers-anything-but\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">multiple times<\/a>, adding (and in some cases, removing) statements:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-209966 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HealthFeedback-factcheck-ACOG-update.jpg\" alt=\"Image: Health Feedback fact check ACOG update\" width=\"598\" height=\"439\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HealthFeedback-factcheck-ACOG-update.jpg 671w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HealthFeedback-factcheck-ACOG-update-300x220.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/HealthFeedback-factcheck-ACOG-update-500x367.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Health Feedback fact check ACOG update<\/p>\n<p>Oddly, when ACOG is addressing pregnancy in general and not promoting abortion, its communications sound strangely similar to the claims of Live Action and Lila Rose. <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-fact-check-misrepresented-live-actions-position\/\">Rose<\/a> &#8220;made clear that preterm delivery is different than abortion&#8221; in a fact-checked Young America\u2019s Foundation\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveaction\/videos\/508975856517573\/?v=508975856517573\">video<\/a>, saying:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;<i>\u2026 [A]bortion \u2013 which is defined as \u2013 the direct and intentional killing of an embryo \u2013 a fetus \u2013 a baby in the womb \u2013 is not a medical treatment. And, what I mean to say then is when you are treating a mother who has a high risk pregnancy \u2013 who has complications \u2013 going in there to directly kill that child is not going to in any way solve her problem, help her heal, be a treatment for what she\u2019s experiencing.<\/i><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>Now, you could perhaps do an early delivery if she\u2019s experiencing preeclampsia or if she has a very severe condition that you need to deliver that baby early. But, in that situation you don\u2019t go in there with a needle or forceps to destroy that baby before birth. You give that baby a fighting chance. And that is not abortion.\u00a0<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G43cG4gYtDI\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The ACOG is heavily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/search\/top\/?q=American%20College%20of%20Obstetricians%20and%20Gynecologists%20-%20ACOG%22Your%20pregnancy%20month%20to%20month%22%20&amp;epa=SEARCH_BOX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">promoting<\/a>\u00a0a book for sale on Facebook, titled\u00a0<b>\u00a0<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acog.org\/About-ACOG\/ACOG-Departments\/ACOG-Rounds\/April-2015\/Patiend-Ed-Pregnancy-Book?IsMobileSet=false\">Your Pregnancy and Childbirth Month to Month, 6th edition<\/a>\u00a0According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acog.org\/About-ACOG\/ACOG-Departments\/ACOG-Rounds\/April-2015\/Patiend-Ed-Pregnancy-Book?IsMobileSet=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACOG website<\/a>, the most recent\u00a0edition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acog.org\/Clinical-Guidance-and-Publications\/Your-Pregnancy-and-Childbirth-Month-to-Month\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">book<\/a> (sixth edition) was published in 2015.\u00a0The book contains information for women seeking a healthy pregnancy and delivery. It also contains information on potential pregnancy complications and details how they might be managed. You may need to have a baby earlier&#8230;. I<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">f you have preeclampsia with severe features, you most likely will be treated in the hospital&#8230; (pg. 414)\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may be transferred to a hospital with a special high risk maternity unity and a high level neonatal intensive care unit \u2026 <em>Corticosteroids<\/em> may be given to help the <\/span><b>baby\u2019s lungs mature<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8230;. Preterm babies have an increased risk of serious complications. Some preterm complications last a lifetime and require ongoing medical care. <strong>Babies born very early also may die<\/strong>.&#8221; (emphasis added)<\/p>\n<p>ACOG later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acog.org\/Patients\/FAQs\/Preeclampsia-and-High-Blood-Pressure-During-Pregnancy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">answers<\/a>, &#8220;How is preeclampsia with severe features managed?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Preeclampsia with severe features usually is treated in the hospital. If you are at least 34 weeks pregnant, it often is recommended that you have your baby as soon as your condition is stable. If you are less than 34 weeks pregnant and your condition is stable, it may be possible to wait to deliver your baby.\u00a0<strong>Corticosteroids\u00a0<\/strong>may be given to help the baby\u2019s lungs mature, and you most likely will be given medications to help reduce your blood pressure and to help prevent seizures. If your condition or the baby\u2019s condition worsens, prompt delivery will be needed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marchofdimes.org\/complications\/hellp-syndrome.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March of Dimes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>HELLP syndrome is a serious pregnancy complication that affects the blood and liver. HELLP stands for these blood and liver problems:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>H&#8211;Hemolysis. This is the breakdown of red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>EL&#8211;Elevated liver enzymes. High levels of these chemicals in your blood can be a sign of liver problems.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>LP&#8211;Low platelet count. Platelets are little pieces of blood cells that help your blood clot. A low platelet count can lead to serious bleeding.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>HELLP syndrome is rare. It happens in about 1 to 2 of 1,000 pregnancies. HELLP usually develops in the third trimester of pregnancy, but it sometimes develops in the week after a baby is born. If you have HELLP syndrome, the liver may bleed, causing pain in your chest or belly. It\u2019s is a medical emergency that needs quick treatment. Without early treatment, 1 out of 4 women (25 percent) with HELLP has serious complications. You may receive drugs\u2026 to help the baby\u2019s lungs and other organs develop in case of a preterm delivery&#8230;. It occurs in up to 3% of pregnancies. This condition may be diagnosed when a woman has lost 5% of her prepregnancy weight and has other problems related to\u00a0<strong>dehydration<\/strong>\u00a0(loss of body fluids). <strong>Women with hyperemesis gravidarum need treatment to stop their vomiting and restore body fluids. Sometimes treatment in a hospital is needed<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>They go on to state, &#8220;If diet and lifestyle changes do not help your symptoms, or if you have severe nausea and vomiting of pregnancy, medical treatment may be needed.
