Protesters stood silently holding lights for six minutes to represent the six counties of Northern Ireland. The following day, thousands gathered for the annual pro-life coalition event March for Their Lives. On the same day, counter protesters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-northern-ireland-49620685\">organized<\/a> a nearby \u201cRally for Choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Crutchley, a spokeswoman for the pro-life event, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk\/news\/northern-ireland\/silent-demonstration-at-stormont-over-planned-liberalisation-of-abortion-laws-38474602.html\">told<\/a>\u00a0the Belfast Telegraph, \u201cWe want our silence to say two things: that first, we, as the people of Northern Ireland, were not asked about this change in legislation, and that it actually goes against public opinion here, and that every sitting MP from Northern Ireland voted against this change, and that the unborn children, they have no voice, they cannot speak so they were not considered in this legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Standing in silence &#8211; 6 minutes for the 6 counties of NI. Northern Ireland\u2019s government has been absent since 2017, when talks between the two major parties collapsed. In the meantime, Westminster has been in charge of certain issues, but as recently as February of this year, abortion was specifically named <i>not<\/i> to be one of those issues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/british-parliament-sneaks-abortion-northern-ireland-bill\/\">British parliament sneaks legalized abortion into Northern Ireland governmental bill<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No Northern Ireland representative voted for the abortion liberalization measure. Abortion was forced upon Northern Ireland by the London Parliament. This law is unwanted by the people of the country, who voted against liberalizing the country\u2019s abortion laws <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2016\/feb\/11\/northern-ireland-abortion-laws-easing-voted-down\">as recently as 2016<\/a>. \u201cThe people of Northern Ireland weren\u2019t consulted, and our elected representatives don\u2019t support, and public opinion here doesn\u2019t support it,\u201d said event organizer Paul Coulter in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6tXTp9IZ21M&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;t=30s\">BBC Newsline<\/a> broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>As one pro-life marcher interviewed by BBC said, \u201cWe\u2019re here to protect the unborn, to remember them, to say to the politicians and to everybody that we care.
