{"id":209325,"date":"2019-08-27T07:42:32","date_gmt":"2019-08-27T12:42:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=209325"},"modified":"2019-08-26T17:16:34","modified_gmt":"2019-08-26T22:16:34","slug":"new-jersey-lawmakers-prop-planned-parenthood-taxpayer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-jersey-lawmakers-prop-planned-parenthood-taxpayer\/","title":{"rendered":"New Jersey lawmakers may prop up Planned Parenthood with state taxpayer funds"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>New Jersey is considering making up the funding gap for Planned Parenthood in the state after the abortion giant <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-rejects-title-x-chooses-abortion\/\">pulled out<\/a> of the Title X family planning program last week, based on its refusal to comply with new restrictions on how the funding may be used.<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers in New Jersey are mulling an $8.8 million state funding boost to Planned Parenthood, on top of the already-existing <a href=\"https:\/\/njrtl.org\/will-nj-foot-the-bill-for-planned-parenthoods-abortion-business\/\">$10.5 million<\/a> in the state budget for the abortion giant, which includes $7.5 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/politics\/2018\/02\/phil_murphy_signs_his_very_first_bill_into_law_nj.html\">restored last year<\/a> by Governor Chris Murphy when he took office. The new money would come from the state\u2019s $1.2 billion <a href=\"https:\/\/njbiz.com\/following-title-x-withdrawal-sweeney-wants-8-8m-nj-planned-parenthood\/\">surplus<\/a> via an appropriations bill.<\/p>\n<p>Since Planned Parenthood pulled out of the Title X program, the organization in New Jersey has been seeking donations and claims to be operating on emergency funds, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/health\/planned-parenthood-abortion-title-x-funding-donors-philadelphia-new-jersey-20190820.html\">The Philadelphia Inquirer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/five-facts-planned-parenthood-family-planning\/\">5 facts the media isn\u2019t telling you about Planned Parenthood\u2019s potential funding cut<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Executive Director for New Jersey Right to Life, Marie Tasy, said Planned Parenthood\u2019s willingness to leave people in the lurch by refusing to comply with Title X \u201cdemonstrates how committed they are to their abortion business,\u201d according to NJ.com. New Jersey Right to Life is <a href=\"https:\/\/njrtl.org\/will-nj-foot-the-bill-for-planned-parenthoods-abortion-business\/\">attempting to mobilize<\/a> pro-life New Jersey residents to make their voice heard against what it labels as an attempt to get the state to \u201cfoot the bill for Planned Parenthood\u2019s abortion business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bizarrely, New Jersey Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman called the new protections ensuring that taxpayer funds do not go to support abortions \u201cevil,\u201d despite it being a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kofc.org\/en\/news\/polls\/opose-taxpayer-funding.html\">popular rule amongst the general public<\/a>. She further stated, \u201cWe don\u2019t get in the middle of a doctor-patient relationship with politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2011, Planned Parenthood abortion center in New Jersey was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/what-we-do\/investigations\/child-sex-trafficking-cover-up\/\">featured in a Live Action undercover investigation<\/a>, showing a willingness to aid sex traffickers to get abortions for underage girls in their employ:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/L9Zj9yx2j0Y\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Governor Murphy said the office was conferring with Planned Parenthood and local family planning affiliates \u201cto assess the need of the program and how the state might step in,&#8221; but did not specifically commit to supporting the measure. \u201cThe Murphy Administration stands firm and proud in our support of women\u2019s health and family planning services in New Jersey in the face of the Trump Administration\u2019s dangerous and unethical rule,\u201d said Alyana Alfaro in a statement for the governor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>Nationally, most <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/five-facts-planned-parenthood-family-planning\/\">Title X beneficiaries aren\u2019t going to Planned Parenthood<\/a>. In New Jersey, out of 45 clinics that receive Title X funding, 22 are operated by Planned Parenthood, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/njbiz.com\/following-title-x-withdrawal-sweeney-wants-8-8m-nj-planned-parenthood\">NJBiz.com<\/a>. About 70% of Title X patients received services from a Planned Parenthood, due to the organization\u2019s stranglehold on the area. In August of last year, only about $2 million was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidernj.com\/press-release\/hrsa-awards-2-million-support-new-jersey-fqhcs-quality-improvement\/\">granted<\/a> to 23 <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/poor-women-health-centers-planned-parenthood\/\">Federally-Qualified Health Centers<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/poor-women-health-centers-planned-parenthood\/\">FQHCs<\/a>) in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The details of the bill would need to need to be agreed upon by other leaders of the Democratic-controlled Assembly, and an Appropriations bill could be voted upon in September.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\">\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/a> for more pro-life news and commentary!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Jersey is considering making up the funding gap for Planned Parenthood in the state after the abortion giant pulled out of the Title X family planning program last week, based on its refusal to comply with new restrictions on how the funding may be used.
