Similar bills have recently been passed in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/louisianas-democrat-governor-signs-heartbeat-bill-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Louisiana<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/women-miscarry-jailed-georgia-heartbeat-myths-debunked\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Georgia<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/mississippi-senate-heartbeat-bill-governor-sign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mississippi<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/missouri-banning-abortion-eight-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Missouri<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/debunking-9-myths-alabama-abortion-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alabama<\/a>. Unfortunately, that law is being fought in federal courts after a judge <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/judge-halts-kentucky-heartbeat-bill\/\">halted the law<\/a> just hours after it passed.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, last week, Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin ceremonially signed the bill into law, and <a href=\"https:\/\/kentucky.gov\/Pages\/Activity-stream.aspx?n=KentuckyGovernor&amp;prId=1010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released a statement<\/a> praising the recent pro-life bills passed in his state. \u201cI am deeply grateful to be governor of a state that so overwhelmingly values the sanctity of human life,\u201d he said. \u201cKentucky is leading the charge in this vitally important fight for the heart and soul of our our great nation. We look forward to additional work with our strong legislative partners in building on this historic momentum, as we advance critical pro-life protections for the most vulnerable among us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the heartbeat bill, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianpost.com\/news\/kentucky-bans-abortions-after-fetal-heartbeat-is-detected.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bevin also signed three other pro-life bills<\/a>\u00a0including one requiring women to be given information about medication abortion (abortion pill) reversal, one <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/kentucky-governor-ban-discrimination-abortions\/\">banning eugenic abortions<\/a> based on sex, race, or disability (also currently being defended by the state in federal court), and one that would ban abortions in Kentucky if <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> is overturned.<\/p>\n<p>On Twitter, Bevin vowed to continue to fight to protect preborn children.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This week, I ceremonially signed four <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/KYGA19?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#KYGA19<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ProLife?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ProLife<\/a> bills\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky is leading the charge in this vitally important fight for the heart and soul of our great nation, and we will continue to advance critical pro-life protections for the most vulnerable among us. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WeAreKY?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WeAreKY<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0K3jtzDLIa\">pic.twitter.com\/0K3jtzDLIa<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Matt Bevin (@GovMattBevin) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovMattBevin\/status\/1160603437748379648?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 11, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.legislature.ky.gov\/recorddocuments\/bill\/19RS\/sb9\/bill.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">text<\/a> of the heartbeat bill points out that babies are much more likely to survive to birth once a heartbeat can be detected. Despite new pro-abortion rhetoric <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/heartbeat-suddenly-unscientific-term-abortion-thats\/\">unscientifically claiming<\/a> that &#8220;embryos don&#8217;t have heartbeats&#8221; and instead show mere &#8220;embryonic pulsing&#8221; in the wake of heartbeat bills passed in other states, the heartbeat of a preborn child can actually be detected starting around six weeks, though the heart begins to beat somewhere between 16 and 21 days after fertilization.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/heartbeat-suddenly-unscientific-term-abortion-thats\/\">Why has \u2018heartbeat\u2019 just become a \u2018medically inaccurate\u2019 term? Abortion.<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RaIa4wvPiE4\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Kentucky&#8217;s law, the physician is the one held responsible for the abortion, not the mother, who will face no penalties. If a woman had an abortion committed against her after a heartbeat was detected, she also would be able to file a civil suit against the abortionist responsible. The law would &#8220;require documentation of whether an abortion was performed to preserve the health of the pregnant woman,&#8221; and allows license revocation and criminal penalties for doctors who defy the law. Contraceptives are not affected by the bill, and will remain legal for sale and distribution. An amendment allowing abortion in the case of a <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.legislature.ky.gov\/recorddocuments\/bill\/19RS\/SB9\/HFA4.pdf\">fetal diagnosis<\/a>\u00a0considered &#8220;incompatible with life&#8221; outside the womb was defeated.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, abortion is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-never-medically-health-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">never medically necessary<\/a> to save a woman&#8217;s life:<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ysl1tRnk-ig\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like other states, Kentucky&#8217;s law is being challenged in court. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/poll-americans-support-heartbeat-bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent polls<\/a> have found that Americans support heartbeat bills, and Rasmussen polling has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/poll-facts-preborn-heartbeat-abortion-opinions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">specifically found<\/a> that facts about prenatal development change people&#8217;s minds about when they want abortion to remain legal.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.14news.com\/2019\/08\/08\/ky-gov-bevin-sign-new-pro-life-bills-thurs\/\">14News.com<\/a>, Gov. Bevin dismissed the idea that pro-life bills are merely matters of religion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis issue, frankly, isn\u2019t about faith,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It\u2019s about science. It\u2019s about medicine. It\u2019s about morality.
