Harvard Constitutional Law professor Laurence Tribe took to twitter Monday, attempting to link pro-life views with white supremacy.\u00a0\u201cWhite Supremacists oppose abortion because they fear it\u2019ll reduce the number of white infants and thus contribute to what they fear as non-white \u2018replacement,'” he claimed. Never underestimate the way these issues and agendas are linked. This turns \u2018intersectionality\u2019 on its head,\u201d he tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This claim seems to insinuate that pro-lifers are white supremacists… but the fact is, multiple pro-life groups decry the fact that abortion impacts the Black community at a rate far higher than other races. Black pro-life activist Ryan Bomberger has noted that more Black babies in New York City are aborted than are born<\/a>. As Bomberger has stated<\/a>, \u201cThere is no group that kills more Black Americans than Planned Parenthood. Abortion is the most lethal form of racism.\u201d Professor Tribe made no mention of the many Black American luminaries<\/a>\u00a0who are leaders in the pro-life movement.<\/p>\n

Among those who rebutted the professor\u2019s argument was his former student and current U.S. Senator from Texas, Ted Cruz, who cited an article which shows that nationwide, African American total fertility rates are below the national replacement level<\/a>. Cruz also brought up the key point that \u201cMargaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, was a vehement advocate of eugenics.\u201d<\/p>\n

And in fact, the eugenic spirit that animated Margaret Sanger and early Planned Parenthood leaders<\/a> is still alive and well<\/a> in the organization today. Sanger was a self-described eugenicist<\/a>. She wrote in her autobiography<\/a> about giving a speech to the white supremacist<\/a> Ku Klux Klan, after which \u201ca dozen invitations to speak at similar groups were proffered.\u201d In a December 1939 letter<\/a>, Sanger wrote: \u201cWe do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.\u201d<\/p>\n
