Her blood pressure reached a low of 78\/56, and her speech became incoherent. She was transported to the hospital where she was given four blood transfusions over the course of three days. Despite the intervention, the woman required a complete hysterectomy as a result of the botched procedure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An investigation into the incident by the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) revealed that<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0the Delta Clinic of Baton Rouge <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lacked basic emergency supplies on hand, such as IV fluid, Midazolam, and Adenosine, as well as the medical equipment needed to treat the woman suffering from abortion complications. According to a Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/prolifelouisiana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/3-21-Delta.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">citation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dated March 29, 2019, the facility failed to ensure \u201ca supply of emergency drugs for stabilizing and\/or treating medical and surgical complications are maintained on the licensed premises,\u201d which resulted in an inability to provide basic care until the arrival of the emergency medical services, as mandated by state health regulations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FLARightToLife%2Fposts%2F10157346456779463&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"649\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/botched-abortion-leads-to-emergency-hysterectomy\/\">Botched abortion leads to emergency hysterectomy<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The LDH reached these conclusions after \u201cobservations, review of records, and staff interviews.\u201d According to Louisiana Right to Life, LDH found the facility guilty of several Class B and Class C violations resulting in a $2,600 fine and placed the facility under Immediate Jeopardy requiring a list of corrective actions before being authorized to reopen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/delta-abortion-clinic-of-baton-rouge-linked-to-gosnell-in-more-ways-than-one\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">facility\u2019s owner<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Leroy Brinkley, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncregister.com\/daily-news\/gosnell-tip-of-the-iceberg\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">used to employ<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the infamous abortionist <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/reflections-on-kermit-gosnells-fate\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kermit Gosnell<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in his two Delaware clinics. The March incident was only the latest evidence of serious problems at the Delta Clinic of Baton Rouge. In July 2018, according to Louisiana Right to Life, LDH <a href=\"https:\/\/prolifelouisiana.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/DeltaDeficiencies7-13-2018.pdf\">found<\/a> several serious deficiencies including too few qualified nurses on staff, a nursing director who only worked four days a month, and a lack of oversight resulting in inadequate medical record-keeping.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5THDmys8z30\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Louisiana Right to Life\u2019s Executive Director Benjamin Clapper issued a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/prolifelouisiana.org\/report-woman-needs-hysterectomy-following-botched-abortion-at-delta-clinic-in-baton-rouge\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in response to the March 2019 LDH report:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is atrocious that the Delta abortion clinic failed to even have basic medical supplies, such as IV fluids, on site to stabilize this patient during an emergency\u2026. Our thoughts and prayers go out to this patient from March 15. Time after time, LDH has fined Delta and Mr. Brinkley for violation of state law and regulation. But it is clear that the fines are not changing the behavior of Delta and Mr. Brinkley. His stark admission that health and safety standards, even recommended by his doctor and staff, were \u2018too expensive\u2019 places the public in danger. Delta\u2019s history is exacerbated with the similar history at Mr. Brinkley\u2019s other abortion facility, Women\u2019s Health Care Clinic.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Women deserve better than abortion.
