Abortion advocates claim that not completing the abortion pill process and attempting to continue the pregnancy means the child could have fetal abnormalities. The abortion industry has used this scare tactic to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/alive-gabriela-abortion-pill-reversal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pressure<\/a> women to continue the abortion pill process, a regimen that includes two different medications (mifepristone and misoprostol).<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood, which <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/over-half-planned-parenthood-revenue-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">profits<\/a> from abortion and holds the largest <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-more-abortion-less-healthcare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">market share<\/a> of the abortion industry with plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-abortion-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expand abortion<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/planned-parenthood-illinois\/patient-resources\/abortion-services\/abortion-pill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tells<\/a> women online, &#8220;<span class=\"content-block-wrap\">Some of the medicines used in medication abortion may cause serious birth defects if the pregnancy continues. So, in the unlikely case that it doesn&#8217;t work, you will need to have an aspiration abortion to end the pregnancy.&#8221; This claim is reiterated in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/files\/6314\/2739\/5378\/About_Medication_Abortion.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">additional<\/a> online publications. What Planned Parenthood isn&#8217;t telling women is that taking the first pill, mifepristone (a progesterone blocker), actually comes with no risk of birth defects, should they change their minds and seek abortion pill reversal treatments (which attempt to counteract mifepristone&#8217;s effects by administering progesterone).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/four-lies-abortion-pill-reversal-truth\/\">Four lies abortion supporters are telling about abortion pill reversal\u2026 and the truth<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-orgs-birth-defects-abortion-pill-research\/\">part one<\/a> of this two part series, Live Action News documented that during original clinical trials of the abortion pill, there was little data to conclude that a continued pregnancy after use of the abortion pill would lead to birth defects, especially when the woman only took the first pill of the two pill regimen. Years later, as part two will demonstrate, even more data confirms the same: <em>the abortion industry is lying to women by claiming that not completing the abortion pill process raises their risk of fetal abnormalities.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lRDnVSMr5j0\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>First, a little history of the abortion pill&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everycrsreport.com\/files\/20010223_RL30866_c6c423f682c56ed7c586755595c02d5202ddf6bd.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Congressional Research Service<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>January 22, 1993: President Bill Clinton directed Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to \u201cassess initiatives\u201d for the promotion of testing, licensing, and manufacturing RU-486 (abortion pill).<\/li>\n<li>April 1993: The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/population-council-founded-eugenicists-promoting-abortion-turns-65\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Population Council<\/a> and French pharmaceutical company Roussel Uclaf announced a preliminary agreement whereby the company would license rights for the drug\u2019s production to the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/population-council-founded-eugenicists-promoting-abortion-turns-65\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Population Council<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>May 16, 1994: The Clinton Administration announced that Roussel Uclaf would donate U.S. patent rights to the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/population-council-founded-eugenicists-promoting-abortion-turns-65\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Population Council<\/a>;\u00a0the right to distribute the drugs were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2000\/09\/30\/us\/abortion-pill-distributor-energized-by-new-mission.html\">later<\/a>\u00a0handed over to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/secrecy-abortion-pill-maker-investors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Danco Laboratories<\/a>, a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/caselaw.findlaw.com\/ny-supreme-court-appellate-division\/1151610.html\">sub-licensee<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/population-council-founded-eugenicists-promoting-abortion-turns-65\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Population Council<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>October 1994 to September 1995: The <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/population-council-founded-eugenicists-promoting-abortion-turns-65\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Population Council<\/a> conducted clinical trials of RU-486.<\/li>\n<li>September 28, 2000: The FDA approved the abortion pill regimen &#8212; mifepristone along with misoprostol &#8212; for the termination of early pregnancy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TWyf6Y_BPlQ\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next, the studies&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2000:<\/strong> The abortion pill&#8217;s (Mifeprex)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/label\/2000\/20687lbl.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2000 FDA label<\/a>\u00a0reads, \u201cAs of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/label\/2000\/20687lbl.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">May 2000<\/a> a total of 82 cases have been reported in which women with on-going pregnancies after using mifepristone alone or mifepristone followed by misoprostol declined to have a surgical procedure at that time.\u201d The results, seen in the image below, revealed few cases of abnormalities were detected:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_206159\" style=\"width: 629px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-206159\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"caption-attachment-206159\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mifeprex 2000 FDA label continued pregnancy fetal deformity risks<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Animal studies mentioned in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/drugsatfda_docs\/label\/2000\/20687lbl.htm\">2000 label<\/a> noted that, \u201cdeformities were most likely due to the <strong>mechanical effects of uterine contractions<\/strong> resulting from decreased progesterone levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Summaries from <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20161024180104\/http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/downloads\/Drugs\/DrugSafety\/PostmarketDrugSafetyInformationforPatientsandProviders\/ucm086149.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Phase IV studies<\/a> published by the FDA reported that, out of 82 cases of ongoing pregnancies reported in Europe, there were <strong>no reports <\/strong>of birth defects among 26 women who carried their pregnancies to a live birth.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_206167\" style=\"width: 778px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-206167\" Service<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everycrsreport.com\/files\/20010223_RL30866_c6c423f682c56ed7c586755595c02d5202ddf6bd.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">February 2001<\/a> Congressional Research Service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everycrsreport.com\/reports\/RL30866.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> quoted a Lancet study of 71 instances where mothers changed their minds after starting medication abortions, and concluded that few of those continued pregnancies resulted in fetal malformations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 occurred with mifepristone alone.<\/li>\n<li>7 with prostaglandin gemeprost.<\/li>\n<li>0 were associated with use of mifepristone and misoprostol.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_206176\" style=\"width: 588px\" Woodcock<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Janet Woodcock was the director of the FDA\u2019s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) when the agency approved the abortion pill. In May of 2006, as the FDA\u2019s M.D. Deputy Commissioner for Operations, Woodcock spoke before the Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, where she <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20090709233907\/https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/NewsEvents\/Testimony\/ucm112562.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Danco Laboratories, the sponsor of the Mifeprex NDA, is currently conducting the pregnancy follow-up study; it has designed and implemented a protocol, but it has determined that as of this time very few pregnancies (less than 20) were continued. For the number that were continued, <strong>Danco informs the Agency it has been unable to collect outcome data on any of them because of difficulties enrolling patients&#8230;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>2013: BJOG (British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology) study<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/obgyn.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1111\/1471-0528.12147#publication-history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> titled, <a href=\"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/1471-0528.12147\/full#publication-history\">Continuation of pregnancy after first-trimester exposure to mifepristone: an observational prospective study<\/a>, and published January of 2013 looked at\u00a0whether pregnancies continued after the first or both pills in the abortion pill regimen carried an excess risk for fetal malformations. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jwatch.org\/wh201302210000004\/2013\/02\/21\/medication-abortion-what-if-pregnancy-continues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Journal Watch,<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;Between 1997 and 2010, French investigators studied the outcomes of 46 pregnancies that continued after exposure to mifepristone alone and 59 after exposure to both mifepristone and misoprostol before 13 weeks&#8217;
