From the U.S., call 011 3 314-292-8100.<\/p>\n<p>Vincent&#8217;s mother <a href=\"https:\/\/aclj.org\/pro-life\/vincent-lambert-were-taking-a-stand-at-the-un-as-his-death-by-starvation-has-started-again\">spoke<\/a> recently at the Human Rights Council denouncing the decision to remove her son&#8217;s nutrition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HbOeoJfjsi8\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>7\/2\/19<\/strong>: France\u2019s highest appeals court has ordered Vincent Lambert\u2019s food to be removed following a six-year-long legal battle for his life.<\/p>\n<p>The 42-year-old nurse, now in a hospital in Reims, suffered an accident in 2008 which left him quadriplegic and with extensive brain damage. He is described by some as \u201csemi-conscious,\u201d and by others as being \u201cin a vegetative state.\u201d Vincent can <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.reuters.com\/article\/topNews\/idCAKCN1TW3GF-OCATP\">sleep and wake up<\/a>, respond to some voices, can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/un-committee-tries-to-save-french-terri-schiavo\/\">swallow<\/a>, and breathe on his own. He is not dependent on machines to live, but he is dependent on nutrition and hydration being delivered in a special manner, like many people.<\/p>\n<p>The Court of Cassation\u2019s final ruling means that Lambert, who is not otherwise ill or at the end of his life, would be removed from food and water and left to die slowly, which can take 14 days or more. The decision cannot be appealed in France, but his parents are fighting the order and have threatened to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/french-court-orders-severely-disabled-man-be-disconnected-from-food-water-43585\">press charges for murder<\/a> if his food is removed. However, Vincent\u2019s wife and six of his eight siblings believe he should be forced to die.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, the European Court of Human Rights ruled against Vincent\u2019s parents, but it wasn\u2019t until May that doctors began removing feeding tubes due to \u201csecurity concerns,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-48806485\">BBC<\/a>. The Paris Court of Appeals immediately ordered doctors to cease until the Court of Cassation handed down their final ruling, which they did on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courdecassation.fr\/jurisprudence_2\/assemblee_pleniere_22\/647_28_42871.html\">June 28th<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/uk-patients-vegetative-killed-consent\/\">UK horror: Patients in \u2018vegetative state\u2019 can now be killed without consent<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In May, Viviane, Lambert\u2019s mother, went before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva to implore their help, arguing that removing food and water from him is a medically unnecessary action that essentially starves him to death on account of his disabilities. \u201cI beg you, help us,\u201d Viviane Lambert told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/world\/europe\/article\/3016846\/vincent-lamberts-mother-begs-un-stop-her-sons-murder-after-top\">SCMP<\/a>. \u201cWithout your intervention, my son, Vincent Lambert, will be euthanized because of his mental handicap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The UN Committee has twice before asked France to refrain from removing nutrition and hydration from Lambert until they could conduct their own investigation, but France rejected the measure as non-binding.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Viviane renewed her plea for her son\u2019s life. \u201cHe sleeps at night, wakes up during the day, and looks at me when I talk,\u201d she said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.reuters.com\/article\/topNews\/idCAKCN1TW3GF-OCATP\">Reuters<\/a>. \u201cHe only needs to be fed through a special device and his doctor wants to deprive him of this so that he can die, while legal experts have have shown that this is not necessary.\u201d She also emphasized that he has reacted to their voices, stating, &#8220;In May, when learning about his planned death, he cried.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mqSMoCY6L7M\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are deeply upset. This is why we have turned to the U.N. Committee of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities because the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities prohibits depriving a person of food and drink. This would be a discrimination,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Pope Francis tweeted in general about those with disabilities in May, writing (translated), &#8220;Pray for those who live in a state of severe disability. Always protect life, God&#8217;s gift, from the beginning to the natural end. He experienced a brain injury, but is not terminal and not near the end of his natural life. It&#8217;s a crime against common sense that his parents are being denied the right to care for him as they see fit. <\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><i>Vincent is being killed by the French state, and this killing is intentionally being caused by a denial of food and water. If we treated any other\u00a0disabled\u00a0person this way, it would be rightly seen as an\u00a0outrageous injustice. We have to awaken the consciences of our brothers and sisters to recognize the humanity and dignity of Vincent\u00a0Lambert and those like him\u2014lives are\u00a0literally at stake.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The case is re-igniting debate in France over euthanasia laws.
