She\u2019d always wanted twins. As her mind tried to sort through her emotions and this new piece of information, she was given the first drug in the chemical abortion regimen and handed the second to take within 48 hours.<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>She was still in a daze as she left the abortion facility. But then, something broke through: The words of a sidewalk counselor outside of the clinic doors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt might not be too late for you\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abortionpillreversal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AbortionPillReversal.com<\/a>\u2014they can still help you save your baby,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>As Alexis drove away, she pulled into the nearest parking lot and did a search on her phone. She found the website the counselor had mentioned and called the helpline (877-558-0333).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe got her started on the abortion pill reversal treatment extremely fast,\u201d said Courtney Parks, abortion pill reversal coordinator for HELP Pregnancy Center. \u201cIt was a matter of hours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With abortion pill reversal, time is crucial.<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise known as the \u201cabortion pill\u201d or RU-486, chemical abortions involve two drugs: mifepristone and misoprostol. Mifepristone, the first pill, destabilizes a pregnancy by blocking progesterone, the natural hormone needed to sustain a healthy pregnancy. To finish the abortion, misoprostol induces labor, forcing a woman\u2019s body to deliver the baby.<\/p>\n<p>To save the baby\u2019s life, the abortion pill reversal treatment was developed by HELP medical director Matt Harrison and California physician George Delgado more than a decade ago. It works by giving a woman extra progesterone up to 72 hours after she takes the first chemical abortion pill.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, Alexis reached out to the helpline early in that window.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pioneering-doctor-reveals-the-science-behind-abortion-reversals-and-the-babies-saved\/\">Pioneering doctor reveals the science behind abortion reversals \u2013 and the babies saved<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lRDnVSMr5j0\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Beautiful, Little Heartbeats<\/h3>\n<p>At her appointment, Parks and HELP\u2019s sonographer, Kelly Byrum, were able to provide Alexis with what the abortion facility did not: The chance to view her twins on ultrasound.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were tiny, little babies and they had beautiful, little heartbeats,\u201d said Parks. \u201cI just remember sitting with her in that ultrasound room and her crying, and just hoping that this would work for her so that she could save her babies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parks provided follow-up ultrasound scans for Alexis over the next several weeks, ensuring that her babies\u00a0were still healthy and thriving.<\/p>\n<p>To the joy of Alexis and her new support system at HELP, the protocol worked. After about a month, the center was able to connect her with a doctor who provided her with prenatal care for the rest of her pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>During that time, Parks and the rest of the HELP team kept in touch with Alexis, even throwing her a baby shower with a partnering ministry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was overwhelmed with the amount of things she got,\u201d Parks said, noting that Alexis now has her own little \u201cbaby store\u201d of wipes and diapers if she runs out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has had everything that these babies need for several years provided for her,\u201d Parks said. \u201cShe told me, \u2018If I had known what I know now and I had seen how the Lord has provided for these babies, I would have never even walked into that clinic.\u2019 So she\u2019s just been overwhelmed with just how good God has provided for her throughout this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After an otherwise uneventful pregnancy, Alexis delivered her twins early this year. Parks says that Alexis is thriving as a single mother, and even has the support of her own mother who moved in with her to help with the twins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(Alexis) is just head over heels in love with these babies,\u201d Parks said.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 416px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/pregnancyhelpnews.com\/images\/Courtney-Parks-with-APR-twins---HELP.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"406\" height=\"542\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Courtney Parks, abortion pill reversal coordinator for HELP Pregnancy Center<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-reversal-really-scary-new-tactic-abortion-supporters-just-fear-implications\/\">Is abortion reversal really a \u2018scary new tactic,\u2019 or do abortion supporters just fear its implications?<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Building Awareness<\/h3>\n<p>Alexis\u2019s twins are two of the 750 babies who have been saved by abortion pill reversal. Parks, one of 800 clinicians within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abortionpillreversal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Abortion Pill Rescue Network<\/a> of providers, is hopeful that Alexis\u2019s story can play a role in rescuing more families from the pain of abortion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really just hope that this brings awareness to abortion pill reversal and the fact that it does save lives,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Byrum agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really neat that it\u2019s getting some press now and people are becoming aware of it,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have heard women come out of this (abortion) clinic that have told us that they told them inside that once you take this pill, there\u2019s nothing you can do to reverse it, that it\u2019s just not possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Byrum and Parks, whose clinic has seen four babies saved by the protocol, it\u2019s not only possible, it\u2019s worthwhile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody walks into an abortion clinic because they just felt like it\u2019s a good day for an abortion,\u201d said Parks. \u201cSomething drives these women to an abortion clinic, whether it\u2019s not having a job or not having housing or an abusive situation with the father of the baby or whatever it might be\u2014they need support, they need somebody to walk with them through their pregnancy to make sure that they have needs met.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In developing a relationship with Alexis from the outset of her pregnancy, Parks, Byrum, and the rest of the HELP team were able to do just that.
