With the passage of pro-life laws in Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, and Mississippi, many pro-abortion pundits have converged on the claim that pro-lifers are \u201cforcing women to carry their fetuses to term.\u201d This is one of the most disingenuous claims of people advocating for the legal killing of preborn human beings.<\/p>\n

The pro-life position is not one of force or coercion; the principle undergirding opposition to abortion is the recognition that violence against innocent human life is inherently unjust. Abortion is — quite literally — violent force used against a human being in the womb. Laws that protect preborn babies from abortion do not \u201cforce women to give birth\u201d; they protect a defenseless human being from being forcibly\u00a0starved to death<\/a>, dismembered by suction<\/a> or forceps<\/a>, and thrown away as medical waste<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The weakness of the pro-abortion argument that pro-lifers are \u201cforcing women to carry to term\u201d can be seen in their callous capitalizing on pregnant survivors of rape. One pro-abortion writer objects<\/a> to \u201cthe inherent cruelty of forcing survivors of rape or incest to carry their fetuses to term, some of whom are likely very young women.\u201d His concern for the young victims of these crimes does not, apparently, extend to those who are ignored and further victimized by the abortion industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What the writer also fails to note is that there is a second person victimized by the rape: the preborn child who had no choice in how she was conceived. A discussion of increased penalties for rapists is perhaps warranted, but it seems we should all be able to agree that the preborn child should not be given the death penalty for the crime of her father.<\/p>\n
