The document,\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/content\/dam\/hc-sc\/documents\/services\/publications\/health-system-services\/medical-assistance-dying-interim-report-april-2019\/medical-assistance-dying-interim-report-april-2019-eng.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fourth Interim Report on Medical Assistance in Dying in Canada,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span>\u00a0was published in April 2019 and shows the shocking growth of euthanasia in the country.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on the current data in Canada, as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/canada-medical-doctors-kill-thousands-in-2018\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Review pointed out<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cThis means well over 3,000 people are killed by their doctors each year in Canada, which \u2014 if my math is correct \u2014 is more than 250 a month, more than 58 a week, and more than eight per day. Heck, that\u2019s about one every three hours.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since assisted suicide was legalized in Canada in 2016 under Bill C-14 via a procedure named Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), a total of 5,085 people in the country have died by euthanasia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although currently applying to adults with a terminal diagnosis, the 2016 euthanasia law has possible expansions built into it, or what the interim report describes as \u201ccomplex and sensitive\u201d cases, to include requests for euthanasia from \u201cmature minors,\u201d people with dementia through advanced requests, as well as \u201crequests where a mental disorder is the sole underlying medical condition.\u201d The Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) was tasked to study these cases and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scienceadvice.ca\/reports\/medical-assistance-in-dying\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">released its findings<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0in December 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/united-nations-disability-concerned-rights-canada\/\">United Nations disability advocate \u2018extremely concerned\u2019 about rights in Canada<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/scienceadvice.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/MAID-Summary-of-Reports.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report&#8217;s summary<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CCA effectively endorsed the idea that minors should be eligible to request euthanasia, possibly <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/assisted-suicide-children-canada\/\">without parental consent<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>The CCA also proposed a number of \u201cpotential safeguards\u201d that could enable legalization for those with mental disorders, as well as people with dementia through advanced requests. The law\u00a0could be updated to legalize euthanasia in these cases as early as 2020-2021, when the Canadian Parliament conducts a mandatory five-year review process.<\/p>\n<p>As the pro-life\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epcc.ca\/about-us\/concerns\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canadian Euthanasia Prevention Coalition<\/span><\/a>\u00a0points out, the legalization of euthanasia always results in unintended social consequences: &#8220;Sanctioning of euthanasia and assisted suicide\u00a0(as in the Netherlands) has led to increased use of euthanasia without consent, circumvention of the law, and abuse of the vulnerable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite assurances of mainstream sources like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/firsthand\/m_features\/misconceptions-about-medical-aid-in-dying-in-canada\">Canadian Broadcasting Corporation<\/a>, statistics out of The Netherlands, which became <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/learned-two-decades-euthanasia-netherlands\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the first major Western nation to legalize euthanasia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shows that the slippery slope is real. Despite the fact that the law is intended to apply to only those with terminal illnesses, 146 people with dementia, 67 people with psychiatric illnesses, and another 205 who simply had \u201cmultiple problems derived from the ageing process\u201d were all euthanized in 2018,<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dutchnews.nl\/news\/2019\/04\/euthanasia-cases-drop-by-7-accounting-for-4-of-total-deaths-in-nl\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">according to DutchNews.nl<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/alexschadenberg.blogspot.com\/2019\/04\/2018-netherlands-euthanasia-deaths-are.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">points out<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in The Netherlands there have been prosecutions of physicians for euthanizing in flagrant cases, as well as resignations from euthanasia advisory boards to protest widespread abuses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The euthanasia law&#8217;s five-year review could begin as early as June 2020.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\">\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/a> for more pro-life news and commentary!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to a new report put out by Canada&#8217;s federal health department, doctors were responsible for 2,614 deaths by euthanasia, or nearly 1.12% of all deaths in the country, in just the first ten months of 2018.
