In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/video\/tony-and-lauren-dungy-talk-new-book-we-chose-you-1495134787574\">interview on NBC\u2019s Today on April 16th<\/a>, Tony and Lauren Dungy &#8212; proud parents of 10 including 7 adopted children &#8212; discussed their new book called &#8220;We Chose You: A Book about Adoption, Family, and Forever Love.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s so important, we think, to talk about adoption, and so we are celebrating adoption, love, and family,\u201d said Lauren.<\/p>\n<p>Tony elaborated on what he wants adopted children to take away from the book. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing weird, there\u2019s nothing bad about being adopted. God just brought you in a different way to your family,\u201d said Tony. The former coach would also like the book to challenge adults: \u201cAnd then a message to parents that [adoption] is a beautiful thing, and we need it. How many kids out there are waiting and hoping for a family? We just need people to step up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XefJbBXT638\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When asked by one of the Today hosts about why they chose to include Psalm 139 in the book, Tony replied, \u201cGod knows us before we even come out of our mother\u2019s womb. And we thought that was really necessary for young people to understand, that God had a plan for you. \u2026 We\u2019ve got seven in our house right now we feel like He put in our family. It wasn\u2019t an accident. It wasn\u2019t any miscommunication. God had planned for them to be with us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur adoptions have all been different and special, but we want other people to know it\u2019s a good thing, that it\u2019s not difficult to do,\u201d explained Lauren. \u201cPray about it and decide, yes, we\u2019re gonna move forward and adopt. Raising an adopted child is like raising a biological child. Not only that, but God chose them for Calvin. It wasn&#8217;t by chance and it wasn&#8217;t an accident. It was according to His plan.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>We Chose You was written to communicate to all children, whether birthed or adopted, that they are chosen. That they are secure. That they are loved. This is a message every child needs to hear.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tony Dungy had a distinguished career in the National Football League (NFL) both as a player and a head coach. As a player, Dungy won an NFL championship as part of the Pittsburgh Steelers\u2019 team in Super Bowl XIII in 1979.
