The hearing was on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. During that same hearing &#8212; again, where Ohden had testified about the circumstances of her birth during an abortion &#8212; NARAL sent out a tweet, claiming that surviving an abortion was an &#8220;imaginary scenario[] and extremist lie[].&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Sen. Lee is now talking about Sasse&#8217;s so-called \u201cborn-alive\u201d bill because of course he is. This bill is based on imaginary scenarios and extremist lies intended to inflame the public and interfere with private medical care. Newborns already have legal protections. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/StopTheBans?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#StopTheBans<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/57fw3Fod0X\">pic.twitter.com\/57fw3Fod0X<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NARAL (@NARAL) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NARAL\/status\/1115637800152588288?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 9, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>But the problem is this: Current law only states that an abortion survivor is a person with full citizenship, entitled to equal protection under federal law. But there are currently <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/born-alive-abortion-laws-different\/\">zero penalties for allowing an abortion survivor to die<\/a>, and NARAL knows this. Current law doesn&#8217;t mandate medical care for abortion survivors, either.<\/p>\n<p>Ohden <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/laurettabrown\/2019\/04\/09\/abortion-advocacy-group-naral-chides-sen-lee-for-imaginary-scenarios-about-infants-surviving-abortion-during-a-hearing-with-an-actual-abortion-survivor-n2544485?utm_content=bufferb8b4e&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=facebook.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\">explained to the committee<\/a>, \u201cMy arrival into this world was not so much a birth, but an accident, a \u2018live birth\u2019 after a saline infusion abortion.\u201d She continued, \u201cMy medical records actually state, \u2018a saline infusion for an abortion was done, but was unsuccessful.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the abortion groups opposed to the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, Ohden <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CatSzeltner\/status\/1115692950875451393\/video\/1\">asked<\/a>, \u201cI hear all this talk about women\u2019s rights, but I beg the question: Where were my rights in the womb? Where are the rights of the little girls who are going to lose their lives to abortion every single day? Where are my rights now as a woman who survived an abortion? Where are the rights of my daughters who never would have lived if that abortion would have succeeded in ending my life?\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">POWERFUL testimony from abortion survivor <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/melissaohden?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@melissaohden<\/a> from today&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/senjudiciary?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SenJudiciary<\/a> hearing on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DKemHNjtER\">pic.twitter.com\/DKemHNjtER<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Catherine Hadro (@CatSzeltner) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CatSzeltner\/status\/1115692950875451393?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 9, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) responded to Ohden\u2019s testimony, expressing dismay at the Senate\u2019s failure to pass the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/born-alive-abortion-laws-different\/\">Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act<\/a> earlier this year. Lee said, \u201cIt\u2019s stunning to consider that one of our nation\u2019s two major political parties, a party that itself once said that abortion should be safe, legal, and rare, now almost uniformly opposes even minimal protections for babies outside the womb, babies who, like Miss Ohden, have survived an attempted abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But NARAL attacked Senator Lee, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NARAL\/status\/1115637800152588288\">claiming<\/a> the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act was \u201cbased on imaginary scenarios and extremist lies intended to inflame the public and interfere with private medical care.\u201d The pro-abortion pundits are either willfully ignorant or outright delusional. It is hard to believe that in the very same hearing that an abortion survivor testifies, pro-abortion lobbyists would claim that abortion survivors are \u201cimaginary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/babies-born-alive-abortions-continue\/\">CDC data proves babies still being born alive during abortions<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several other pro-abortion politicians and writers, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-abortion-survivors-die\/\">president of Planned Parenthood<\/a>, have <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-abortion-survivors-die\/\">claimed<\/a> that there is \u201cno such thing as an abortion survivor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet Ohden testified that she has been in contact with <strong>281 abortion survivors<\/strong> through her group, the Abortion Survivors Network. And the Centers for Disease Control&#8217;s data actually supports Ohden&#8217;s claim, not those of pro-abortion groups. The <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/babies-born-alive-abortions-continue\/\">CDC&#8217;s records show that at least 143 babies survived abortion between 2003 and 2014<\/a>, and later died. The CDC says this number is likely underestimated.<\/p>\n<p>So apparently, abortion survivors aren&#8217;t quite as &#8220;imaginary&#8221; as NARAL and Planned Parenthood claim.<\/p>\n<p>The fact is that <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-abortion-survivors-die\/\">babies do sometimes survive<\/a> a procedure that is intended to end their life. The existence of abortion survivors calls into question many of the false premises on which legal abortion is founded.
