It was fundamentally about making sex <em>less<\/em> relevant in judging people\u2019s worth and qualifications, about viewing them as individuals first and members of a group second.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s pretenders to the feminist throne, for whom \u201cwomen\u2019s rights\u201d and \u201cgender equality\u201d are but code words for abortion and birth control, have completely turned that principle on its head, as strikingly demonstrated by a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhrealitycheck.org\/article\/2012\/08\/09\/gillibrand-we-had-equal-representation-in-congress-we-wouldnt-be-debating-contrac\">recent RH Reality Check post<\/a> on comments made by New York Democrat Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. Robin Marty reports that Gillibrand realizes \u201chow much work needs to be done to get more women running for office, especially women who don&#8217;t <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhrealitycheck.org\/article\/2012\/06\/27\/wendy-long-wins-gop-nomination-new-york-senate-what-does-she-believe\">stump for the religious right<\/a>\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;[I]f we had 50 percent of women in Congress, we would not be debating contraception,&#8221; she said at a fundraiser, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/gillibrand-works-to-elect-more-women\/2012\/08\/01\/gJQAsftTQX_story.html?wprss=rss_national\">The Washington Post<\/a>. &#8220;We would be debating the economy, small business, jobs, national security \u2014 everything but.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Gillibrand is using her massive fundraising prowess to focus on other women now&#8211;in this case Tammy Duckworth in Wisconsin, Christie Vilsack in Iowa, and Val Demmings in Florida. If all three women won, it could make a massive change in the ratio not just of Republicans to Democrats in the House, but from male to female as well.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If Congress isn\u2019t achieving Gillibrand\u2019s desired results because too few lawmakers are female, presumably that means there\u2019s something about being male that makes one\u2019s judgment on such issues intrinsically worse, and something about being female that makes it intrinsically better.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, that raises the obvious question of whether there are also issues that men are inherently better at deciding. Is Kathleen Sebelius\u2019s leadership handicapping the Department of Health and Human Services with some sort of female-centric bias? It\u2019s safe to assume that most left-wing feminists would bristle at such a suggestion, leaving us with only one alternative: women are just better.<\/p>\n<p>If that\u2019s the case, then the original feminists were wrong. The sexes aren\u2019t equal. Men\u2019s objectivity, comprehension, and decision-making skills are fundamentally inferior to women\u2019s. Reason, justice, and prudence aren\u2019t independent concepts accessible to all; only by possessing the right chromosomes can one fully perceive them.<\/p>\n<p>Simply put, this is bunk. We are all individuals capable of reason, not drones beholden to hive minds. Men and women are equally capable of understanding how <a href=\"\/news\/investigative\/analysis\/of-course-catholics-for-choice-mocks-usccb-fortnight-for-freedom\/\">religious liberty and freedom of association<\/a> work, reading that the Center for Disease Control\u2019s own data finds <a href=\"http:\/\/theweek.com\/bullpen\/column\/224398\/the-arrogance-of-obamas-accommodation\/1\">no sign<\/a> that women are suffering a crisis of &#8220;access&#8221; to birth control, and learning about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abort73.com\/abortion\/medical_testimony\/\">humanity of the unborn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Not only does it deny the equality of the sexes and the objectivity of truth to suggest that only members of a particular demographic group are fit to govern for that group, but it also threatens to widen society\u2019s divisions. If self-interest and the ability to perceive it are inextricably tied to one\u2019s physical characteristics, then there\u2019s no such thing as <em>common<\/em> good or <em>general<\/em> welfare, and trying to find them is a nonsensical exercise in futility. Earnest efforts to cross identity lines and find what\u2019s best for everyone must give way to people banding together in \u201cevery demographic for itself!\u201d struggles.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, Marty undermines the very quote she\u2019s highlighting with her quip about how the female politicians we need aren\u2019t part of the \u201creligious right,\u201d such as Gillibrand\u2019s pro-life opponent, Republican attorney Wendy Long. Long, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, and other female politicians are exactly the type of women feminists always <em>say<\/em> we need in politics: confident, passionate, and just as comfortable in the professional world as they are in the home. But despite, y\u2019know, <em>being women<\/em>, they aren\u2019t good for womankind, because they don\u2019t sign onto the pro-abortion\/forced contraception agenda.<\/p>\n<p>In the name of \u201cfeminism,\u201d abortion advocates have hijacked and corrupted everything the real feminists fought so hard to achieve, and all for a cause those venerable women <a href=\"http:\/\/www.feministsforlife.org\/history\/foremoth.htm\">would have been disgusted by<\/a>. The best way to honor the legacy of Susan B.
