And unsurprisingly, no one in the abortion-friendly media is doing their journalistic job of fact-checking her. Planned Parenthood&#8217;s own staffers debunk her claims, as does the Guttmacher Institute, the Centers for Disease Control, among others &#8212; yet the media says nothing. It is instead helping her to lie to the public. It&#8217;s nothing short of fear mongering.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FALSE CLAIM: Thousands of women died every year from illegal abortion prior to Roe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Women died from both illegal and legal abortions prior to Roe, and they continue to die from legal abortion today. But it was the\u00a0introduction of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.historylearningsite.co.uk\/a-history-of-medicine\/antibiotics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">antibiotics<\/a>\u00a0in the 1940s which dramatically decreased abortion-related deaths to roughly hundreds <em>or less<\/em> a year. As a physician, Wen should know this. Instead, she chooses to completely mislead the public.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE TRUTH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/preview\/mmwrhtml\/00041486.htm#00001660.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centers for Disease Control<\/a>\u00a0statistics reveal:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In <strong>1972<\/strong>, the year before Roe, while there were 39 deaths from <em>illegal<\/em> abortion and\u00a0<strong>24 deaths\u00a0<\/strong>in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/legal-abortion-equals-more-proof\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">handful of states<\/a>\u00a0where abortion was <em>legal<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>1973<\/strong>, the year the Supreme Court forced abortion on the nation, the CDC reports 19 deaths from\u00a0<em>illegal<\/em>\u00a0abortions and\u00a0<strong>25 deaths<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0<em>legal<\/em>\u00a0abortion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NARAL founder and former abortionist Bernard Nathanson admitted he and others fabricated large numbers of deaths from illegal abortions\u00a0prior to Roe. Former <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/1973-video-former-planned-parenthood-eugenicist-president-responds-roe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Planned Parenthood president<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-population-control-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alan Guttmacher<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/1967\/12\/5\/parenthood-president-churchman-debate-reform-of\/\">stated<\/a>\u00a0at a\u00a0<strong>1967<\/strong> Harvard Law School Forum, \u201cSeventy per cent of the illegal abortions in the country are performed by reputable physicians, each thinking himself a knight in white armor.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_199690\" style=\"width: 472px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-199690\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-199690 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/CDC-Abortion-deaths-1972-to-1990-e1554398007484.jpg\" alt=\"Image: CDC Abortion deaths 1972 to 1990\" width=\"462\" height=\"360\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-199690\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CDC Abortion deaths 1972 to 1990<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>PLANNED PARENTHOOD&#8217;S REPEATED LIES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But Wen hasn&#8217;t just lied once or twice. She&#8217;s repeated this false claim <em><strong>at least five different times<\/strong><\/em>. This is a calculated propaganda tactic &#8212;\u00a0repeating a lie often enough so that people will believe it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lie #1:\u00a0<\/strong><strong>March 5, 2019 &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Wen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasobserver.com\/news\/dallas-observer-interview-with-planned-parenthood-president-leana-wen-11587780\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the Dallas Observer that, &#8220;It&#8217;s deeply disturbing when people spout lies&#8230;&#8221; which she then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasobserver.com\/news\/dallas-observer-interview-with-planned-parenthood-president-leana-wen-11587780\">went on to do herself<\/a>, using the infamous false claim:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8221; I have a mentor who told me about what it was like to work in the 1960s, pre-<i>Roe&#8230;.\u00a0<\/i><strong>Thousands of women died because they didn&#8217;t have access to safe, legal abortion<\/strong>. <strong>That&#8217;s what could happen now<\/strong>, 46 years after\u00a0<i>Roe v. Wade.<\/i>&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Lie #2: March 6, 2019 &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/36-year-old-chinese-immigrant-now-leads-planned-parenthood-warns-of-roe-being-overturned\/287-a6fe4409-ec7c-4303-9068-f1c889f2b417\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> with Texas ABC affiliate WFAA in Dallas, Wen cited the false statistic again.\u00a0\u201cI am deeply concerned about the future of Roe v. Wade,\u201d Wen told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/36-year-old-chinese-immigrant-now-leads-planned-parenthood-warns-of-roe-being-overturned\/287-a6fe4409-ec7c-4303-9068-f1c889f2b417\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WFAA<\/a>. \u201cWe face a real situation where Roe could be overturned. And, we know what will happen which is that, <strong>women will die. Thousands of women died every year prior pre-Roe.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Live Action News\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-debunked-thousands-abortion-die\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">debunked<\/a> this claim at the time, but to date,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wfaa?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WFAA<\/a> and reporter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JasonWhitely?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jason Whitely<\/a> have failed to issue any corrections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lie #3: March 8, 2019 &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>In a Harper&#8217;s Bazaar podcast <a href=\"https:\/\/dare-i-say.simplecast.com\/episodes\/sarah-and-leana-wg4MLOSV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> with <em>Dare I Say, <\/em>Wen proclaimed,\u00a0&#8220;If Roe were overturned, if it&#8217;s further eroded&#8230; I never thought that we could go back to a time like that <strong>where thousands of women<\/strong> died and yet its 2019 and that seems real.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The statement was used as the title of the interview page.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_199685\" style=\"width: 847px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-199685\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-199685\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Leana-Wen-on-Dare-I-say-March-2019.jpg\" alt=\"Image: Leana Wen on Dare I say March 2019\" width=\"837\" height=\"507\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Leana-Wen-on-Dare-I-say-March-2019.jpg 837w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Leana-Wen-on-Dare-I-say-March-2019-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Leana-Wen-on-Dare-I-say-March-2019-768x465.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Leana-Wen-on-Dare-I-say-March-2019-700x424.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Leana-Wen-on-Dare-I-say-March-2019-500x303.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 837px) 100vw, 837px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-199685\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Leana Wen on Dare I say March 2019<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Lie #4: March 21, 2019 &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>In an interview on the Daily Show, the Planned Parenthood president <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cc.com\/video-clips\/jpaktq\/the-daily-show-with-trevor-noah-dr--leana-wen---planned-parenthood---fighting-the-politicization-of-health-care---extended-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> host Noah Trevor the same story, claiming\u00a0 &#8220;sepsis wards&#8221; &#8220;could happen now.&#8221; (What&#8217;s interesting is she doesn&#8217;t mention that <a href=\"https:\/\/americanpregnancy.org\/unplanned-pregnancy\/abortion-side-effects\/\">sepsis is a risk of <em>legal abortion<\/em><\/a> &#8212; and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/dangerous-self-abortion-pill-push\/\">does<\/a>, indeed, happen to women today.)<\/p>\n<p>Wen also again claimed, &#8220;<strong>Thousands of women died before Roe versus Wade and that could happen now.<\/strong> And, this is what we need to call out.&#8221; Unsurprisingly, pro-abortion host Trevor Noah failed to correct or question Wen.<\/p>\n<p>You can hear a clip of the statement in Live Action&#8217;s fact check of additional misleading statements from Wen in that interview in the video below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/K-MPBJf3a6Q\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lie #5: A<\/strong><strong>pril 2, 2019 &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Wen\u00a0traveled to the Rhode Island State House\u00a0to advocate passage of the\u00a0Reproductive Health Care Act\u00a0(RHCA) to support dangerous legislation that removes &#8220;nearly all existing protections for unborn life,&#8221; as National Review\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2019\/02\/abortion-extremism-comes-to-rhode-island\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described<\/a>\u00a0it. Many of their names can be seen at the end of the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/x4m2tpNCxpE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video<\/a> below.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/x4m2tpNCxpE\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood receives half a billion in taxpayer dollars annually, allowing them to pocket millions in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-more-abortion-less-healthcare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">profits<\/a> and wield their power to influence both <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-journalists-ignore-sexual-abuse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-planned-parenthood-money-laundering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">politicians<\/a>.
