Massachusetts is gearing up to expand access to abortion in the state<\/a> in the event of Roe v. Wade<\/em> being overturned. Not only does\u00a0The Remove Obstacles and Expand Abortion Access Act<\/a>\u00a0(ROE Act) allow for abortion through all nine months of pregnancy and end a state law requiring basic medical care for abortion survivors, but the bill also replaces common pregnancy language with standard abortion industry wording, removing words including “mother” and “unborn child.”<\/p>\n

Bill S.1209 states that abortions may be committed after 24 weeks based on the abortionist’s opinion regarding the health of the mother including “physical, emotional, psychological, familial, and the person’s age – relevant to the well-being of the patient” — language identical to Roe’<\/em>s companion decision, Doe v. Bolton<\/em>. An abortion may be legally committed on the viable and healthy child of a physically and emotionally healthy mother.<\/p>\n

The bill also changes the definitions of such things as pregnancy and abortion, removing any standard wording and replacing it with abortion industry terms. For example, Section 12K<\/a> previously defined abortion as “the knowing destruction of the life of an unborn child or the intentional expulsion or removal of an unborn child from the womb…” Under the ROE Act, abortion would be defined as: “any medical treatment intended to induce the termination of a clinically diagnosable pregnancy…” The language has been conveniently altered to fit an abortion marketing tactic which is to never use the words baby<\/em>, child<\/em> or life<\/em> when discussing abortion so that women won’t change their minds and choose life.<\/p>\n

In addition, pregnancy had been defined as “the condition\u00a0of a mother carrying an unborn child.” Under the ROE Act, pregnancy would instead be defined as “the presence of an implanted human embryo or fetus within a person’s uterus.” The abortion industry’s attempt to dehumanize preborn human beings like slavery supporters dehumanized Black human beings is succeeding. Pregnancy will no longer be about a mother and child in Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

The ROE Act also completely removes protections for abortion survivors which included “the presence of life-supporting equipment” in the room where abortions are committed.<\/p>\n

Pro-Choice Massachusetts<\/a> has called the passage of this extreme bill their “top priority” for the year.<\/p>\n
