{"id":197255,"date":"2019-02-25T11:25:06","date_gmt":"2019-02-25T17:25:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=197255"},"modified":"2019-02-25T11:25:06","modified_gmt":"2019-02-25T17:25:06","slug":"late-term-abortionist-abort-needs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/late-term-abortionist-abort-needs\/","title":{"rendered":"Late-term abortionist admits he&#8217;ll abort if any woman thinks she &#8216;needs&#8217; one"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/late-term-abortionist-believes-for-some-women-even-after-they-deliver-its-a\">Life Site News<\/a>)\u00a0In a 2016 lecture delivered at Johns Hopkins University, controversial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/abortion-facility-will-abort-healthy-developed-26-week-old-baby-for-7k\">late-term abortionist Leroy Carhart<\/a> offered troubling revelations about the nature of his work and the abortion industry.<\/p>\n<p>Carhart began by explaining why abortionists and pro-abortion advocates are universally arrayed against partial-birth abortion ban laws, and along the way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn reality, if you think about abortion, there isn\u2019t an abortion done that doesn\u2019t remove part of the fetus before it dies, and the rest of it afterwards,\u201d declared Carhart at the outset of the hour-long <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2qoVApUaCM0\">audio<\/a> provided by Students for Life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo (late-term abortion legislation) really could be interpreted as a total abortion ban,\u201d added Carhart. \u201cOr definitely misinterpreted as a second trimester ban.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-video\" data-location=\"4\" data-yturl=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2qoVApUaCM0\">\n<div class=\"article-video-embed\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2qoVApUaCM0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Carhart said of the \u201cthree or four\u201d doctors in the United States who perform what are considered late-term abortions, the procedure is most often done through \u201cfetal euthanasia,\u201d which ensures that the baby is dead before he or she is removed from his or her mother\u2019s uterus.<\/p>\n<p>But any partial birth abortion ban is seen by Carhart and others as a threat to the cash cow of abortion practitioners \u2013 second trimester abortions.<\/p>\n<h4>Making sure \u2018the baby is dead\u2019<\/h4>\n<p>In another exchange, Carhart was asked a question by Johns Hopkins student Andrew Guernsey, now director of the United States Senate Pro-Life Caucus: \u201cIn your experience of practicing abortion, have you ever had an instance of an infant born alive, and if so, what protocols do you follow in those situations?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I have not because, as I said, (for) anybody over 17 weeks in my practice, we do a fetal injection three or four days before the abortion is completed,\u201d said Carhart. \u201cSo we know the baby has been dead for multiple days. And we do that for many reasons, none of which are to guarantee that the baby wasn\u2019t alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know (abortion) practitioners who have had babies delivered alive. Most of them &#8212; the women \u2014 go to the hospital in the middle of the night and it\u2019s not been in the clinic,\u201d continued Carhart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ve read the same stories I have about Dr. Gosnell and a few other people. I don\u2019t know how much is true. It\u2019s certainly possible that it could all be true. And it\u2019s possible that maybe not so much of all of it is. But state law requires that if the baby is alive that that they be attempted to be resuscitated. And I would certainly follow the law. But it will not happen in my practice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At one point, Carhart contradicted himself, at first saying he only performs abortions where the mother\u2019s life is in danger physically or psychologically, but then later admitting he will provide an abortion to anyone who has decided that \u201cthat\u2019s what they need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carhart, who from 1997 until 2009 worked in Wichita, Kansas with the notorious Dr. George Tiller, said that clinic regularly performed second and third trimester abortions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/late-term-abortionist-killed-thriving\/\">Late-term abortionist who killed women is back in business and \u2018thriving\u2019<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After\u00a0Tiller\u2019s murder, the Wichita office closed permanently, and Carhart began a full-time practice at his office in Nebraska. Although he previously conducted abortions in the Cornhusker State up until the 24th week of pregnancy, he soon began offering third trimester abortions.<\/p>\n<p>When new abortion laws placed what he views as \u201cunconstitutional\u201d restrictions on late-term abortions, he looked elsewhere and opened an office in Maryland in 2012. He praised the Old Line State for enshrining in its constitution the absolute right to an abortion at any time during pregnancy in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>Carhart admitted that because his practice consists of abortions exclusively, \u201cvirtually nobody is happy when they leave our clinic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More recently, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/inhuman\/\">Live Action captured a video interview<\/a> in which Carhart told Huffington Post, \u201cIn my heart and my mind, you know, life begins when the mother thinks it begins, not when anybody else thinks it begins.
