{"id":197204,"date":"2019-02-28T11:17:45","date_gmt":"2019-02-28T17:17:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=197204"},"modified":"2019-02-26T15:37:15","modified_gmt":"2019-02-26T21:37:15","slug":"wisconsin-governor-babies-planned-parenthood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wisconsin-governor-babies-planned-parenthood\/","title":{"rendered":"New Wisconsin gov says he wants to help babies&#8230; by funding Planned Parenthood"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced a budget initiative Wednesday that would once again use state taxpayer money to fund abortion giant <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/abortioncorporation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Planned Parenthood<\/a>, undoing former Governor Scott Walker\u2019s 2016 pro-life regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Evers\u2019 \u201cHealthy Women, Healthy Babies\u201d initiative consists of a $28 million budget that seeks to address racial disparities among infant mortality rates, as black infants in Wisconsin have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/databriefs\/db295.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">almost three times<\/a> the mortality rate in the first year of life, according to the CDC. The plan would increase coverage for cancer screenings and testing for sexually transmitted infections. However, as part of the measure, the governor promised to repeal the restrictions to Title V and Title X funds that made Planned Parenthood ineligible for the funds. It is unclear how the Trump administration\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/trump-cuts-family-planning-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent changes to Title X funding<\/a> would affect the plan.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">We need to make sure every woman and every baby is able to get the care they need in Wisconsin. And yes, that includes restoring funding for lifesaving preventative care that Planned Parenthood offers for folks across our state. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JdC5untHh8\">https:\/\/t.co\/JdC5untHh8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Tony Evers (@GovEvers) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovEvers\/status\/1099052062317441024?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 22, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t have healthy communities without healthy women and babies,\u201d said Evers in a statement, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/madison.com\/wsj\/news\/local\/health-med-fit\/tony-evers-to-seek-million-for-women-s-health-infant\/article_32b920b6-da99-5322-9d67-4a5c5b7074b0.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wisconsin State Journal<\/a>. \u201cThat is why my budget will connect the dots and increase access and coverage, as well as create innovative programs to ensure quality health care for women, and healthy beginnings for our children.\u201d Tanya Atkinson, president of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin, agreed: \u201cWe all can agree that we want healthier communities and families, and that starts with making sure all women, regardless of their race, income or ZIP code, can get the care they need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>VIDEO: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthoods-decreasing-health-care-services-prove-it-should-be-defunded\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Planned Parenthood\u2019s decreasing health care services prove it should be defunded<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Executive Director of Wisconsin Right to Life Heather Weininger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsinrighttolife.org\/wrtl-news\/2019\/02\/21\/wisconsin-right-to-life-response-to-governor-evers-healthy-women-healthy-babies-initiatives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">condemned the measure<\/a>, saying: \u201cI would like to help you connect the dots, Governor Evers. It is impossible to have healthy babies when Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in our country and state. For children to have healthy beginnings, we must allow them to be born.\u201d It is unclear how Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the country, which aborts black babies at a rate of <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/4-african-americans-dedicated-saving-lives-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">25.1 per 1,000<\/a>, and who has been caught <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/viewers-react-to-video-showing-planned-parenthood-accepting-donations-to-abort-black-babies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accepting donations specifically to abort black babies<\/a>, would save the lives of black babies.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uKlrgTygLDg\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>State Senate Majority Leader, Republican Scott Fitzgerald, made his opposition known. \u201cI am adamantly opposed to his plans to increase government funding for abortion providers in the upcoming budget,\u201d Fitzgerald said, according to the Journal. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos also indicated his opposition to any expanded funding for Planned Parenthood. &#8220;Republicans are not going to put one more nickel into Planned Parenthood than we do right now,&#8221; Vos said according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/evers-pitches-28m-womens-health-restored-planned-parenthood-funding\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wisconsin Public Radio<\/a>. &#8220;We have done everything we can to try to make sure that we protect human life.
