The bill has passed a Judiciary Committee Hearing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/leg.mt.gov\/bills\/2019\/billpdf\/SB0100.pdf\">Senate Bill 100<\/a> requires that the abortionist tell women that they can view the live ultrasound, see an ultrasound image, and listen to the fetal heartbeat if it is audible. However, women do not have to do so. The requirement is waived if the abortion is occurring in an emergency situation (however, abortion is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/former-abortionist-abortion-is-never-medically-necessary-to-save-the-life-of-the-mother\/\">never necessary<\/a> to save a woman\u2019s health or life). Any abortionist who fails to offer this choice to women in his or her facility will face a $1,000 fine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ysl1tRnk-ig\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Catherine Glenn Foster, President and CEO of Americans United for Life, submitted <a href=\"https:\/\/aul.org\/2019\/02\/01\/testimony-on-montanas-s-b-100\/#_ftn4\">personal testimony<\/a> to the House Committee on Human Services regarding her support of the bill. She states that had the ultrasound law, or one like it, existed in 2001 when she was a sophomore in college facing an unplanned pregnancy, she may not have had an abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Assuming the abortion facility would provide her with all her options, she requested to view the ultrasound but was denied because it was against clinic policy to show women their own ultrasound images of their own children. Since research shows that about <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ultrasound-images-save-lives-change-hearts\/\">78 percent<\/a> of women who see the ultrasound image choose life, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-ultrasound-except-using-find-fetal-organs\/\">it isn&#8217;t surprising that abortion businesses wouldn&#8217;t want to lose clients<\/a> by showing them their ultrasound.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-lies-ultrasound-laws\/\">The abortion industry lies to women. That\u2019s why we need ultrasound laws.<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI walked into that clinic because I felt I had no other choice, and nothing that took place that day restored my agency or my empowerment,\u201d wrote Foster. \u201cI was deeply conflicted, looking for information and resources to give me hope and options, but was given neither. I have never been able to see my child\u2019s only photo, and that fact remains on my mind to this day. That clinic stripped me of my choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Women like Foster are suffering the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/the-devastating-reality-of-post-abortion-stress-syndrome\/\">emotional and psychological<\/a> harm that abortion has caused them, and if they had been given all of the information, countless women would have chosen life. Ultrasounds should be performed before abortions as standard procedure to learn the age of the preborn child and to diagnose ectopic pregnancies. This protects the woman\u2019s physical health, since the risk of injury or death from abortion <a href=\"http:\/\/ldh.la.gov\/index.cfm\/page\/915\">increases<\/a> as gestational age increases.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to allowing women to view images of their child before following through with an abortion, the bill also requires that regulations are made for a \u201ccomprehensive system of reporting maternal deaths and complications within the state resulting directly or indirectly from abortion.\u201d There is no solid data on how many women die from abortion-related injuries each year since many women do not return to the abortion facility when they experience a complication.
